This is an unmolested 1988 Suzuki Samurai. The suspension has not been cut up, raised or modified. It is driven almost daily, so the mileage is accurate as of 6/1/2013.
This Samurai has the original 1.3L engine, 5-speed transmission, and 4-wd transfer.
The car was recently painted (within the last 3 years) and has new ABS body graphics installed.
The entire interior was stripped and Rhino coated.
The convertible top is less than 3 years old and in near perfectly-new condition.
Here is what I have done (just in last two years...):
I had PetroWorks do a complete major tune-up and replaced the catalytic converter and they smog'd the car (in 2012).
All five (5) tires are new (less than 3000 miles) Guardsman Plus Radials, from Sears. They include wheel locks on all tires (including the spare).
All shocks were replaced with Rancho brand nitrogen gas shocks. The steering stabilizer was replaced with an oversized Rancho stabilizer.
I added the PetroWorks 15-gallon poly fuel tank and hardware.
I added the hard to find windshield fold-down kit.
I added the Hi-Power headlight wiring harness and relay kit.
I added the "Clicky Starter" Relay Kit.
I installed the engine hood hold-down handle's.
I installed the 105-amp GM alternator kit.
I added and wired a third brake light (from a 1991 Suzuki/Chevy Tracker).
I re-installed the missing rear seat and hardware (including seat belts).
I have replaced all five (5) of the inner panels with black aluminum diamond plate (installed with 8-32 stainless steel Allen screws).
I installed new complete carpeting kit.
So what doesn't work...?
The radio is complete crap. It blows the fuse.
The inclinometer ball is spun around and does not indicate the angle of the road you're on (who cares...?).
The windshield wiper sprayer hose (or sprayers nozzles) are plugged.
The driver-side headrest is broken.
If I was going to keep this car, what would I do...?
I would re upholster the three (3) seats. The front seats are fine, but the back seat really needs a new cover, and I would prefer that they match.
I would install the 1.6L engine. I even have one completely disassembled (and on an engine stand) that the buyer will have the first-shot at buying.
I would rebuild the trans and transfer case.
I would replace the radio.
I would replace that stupid inclinometer-altimeter assembly with a oil pressure, oil temp and ammeter gauge-set.
The buyer will also have to put up with my crying when he picks it up.

Suzuki planning an electric Jimny among EV, hybrid onslaught
Fri, Jan 27 2023Suzuki introduced the larger, five-door Jimny earlier this month, and an investor presentation detailing the automaker's growth strategy to 2030 shows there's more in store. The automaker's mission is to expand its lineup with vehicles that move toward the "realization of a carbon neutral society." This entails Europe, India and Japan receiving five or six new hybrid and/or battery-electric models each. In Europe, the first of Suzuki's five BEVs will show in financial year 2024; when the rollout is complete, it will include an electric Jimny — the silhouette in the upper right. According to Australian outlet Drive, starting from the upper left, the others are a small people-mover, an electric version of the Fronx crossover Suzuki debuted at Auto Expo in India earlier this month, an unknown hatchback, and the retail version of the EVX concept. An electric Jimny would get the dinky 4x4 back to Europe without any classification trickery. The Japanese brand ended export of the regular four-seat model to Europe in 2020 when it could no longer pass EU emissions. It now sends the same model as a two-seat commercial vehicle. Suzuki sells as many as seven models in European markets not including the Jimny, six of them mild hybrids, one a plug-in hybrid. There have been rumors of a hybrid Jimny for a couple of years, and it's predicted the new five-door will get a hybrid option shortly. The investor presentation deck predicted an eventual powertrain ratio in Europe of 80% battery-electric vehicles, 20% hybrid vehicles. We expect that would mean a near overhaul of the European ranges with current models dropping out in favor of hybrids with electric options. What's unexpected is that the battery-electric Jimny silhouette doesn't show on the slides for the Indian or Japanese markets. In Japan, Suzuki expects sales to end up 80% hybrid, 20% EV, the opposite of Europe. The Indian outpost, known as Maruti Suzuki, is the automaker's largest market, and one local outlet said 1,000 shoppers have paid to reserve a spot for the five-door Jimny every day since the truck's debut. The expected powertrain breakdown there is much more varied than the other two regions at 15% battery-electric vehicles, 25% hybrid, and a 60% share of internal combustion made up of a mix of compressed natural gas, biogas, ethanol and "etc." This would definitely be a market for the hybrid Jimny whenever it shows.
American Suzuki Motors files chapter 11, will no longer sell cars in the United States
Mon, 05 Nov 2012As much as we knew it was a possibility, we have to say that Suzuki's announcement this afternoon that it is filing chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings caught us a bit off guard. American Suzuki Motor Corporation - the sole distributor of Suzuki automobiles in the United States - will realign its business to focus on motorcycles, ATVs and the marine market.
What does this mean in simple terms? In short, new Suzuki cars and trucks will no longer be sold by Suzuki in the United States once current supplies run out. Period.
Suzuki cites "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market."
Suzuki recalling 2,800 XL7 models over faulty fuel pump
Sat, 29 Dec 2012A recall has been issued for the 2007 Suzuki XL7, but only those vehicles either bought or registered in four states: Texas, Arizona, California and Nevada. Potentially 2,380 of the SUVs manufactured from June 13, 2006 to December 22, 2006 could have an issue with their fuel pump modules: The plastic supply or return port could crack. If that happens, it could lead to a fuel leak and then to a fire.
Suzuki hasn't said when the recall will begin. Once it does, owners will be notified and can have their dealers make the necessary repairs free of charge. There's a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below with more information.
