No reserve auction for 1987 Suzuki Samurai, we purchased this vehicles several years ago when we lived off the grid. When we purchased it, the previous owner had started outfitting it for rock crawling and it had the original 4 cylinder engine and manual transmission which worked great in the summer. Our home was at 8500 ft elevation and in the winter we normally would get several feet of snow, in 2005 we had 22 ft of snow at our place. So we bought the Suzuki to put tracks on and use it to make the trek to our trucks which had to be parked 7 miles from where we lived in the winter as the road to our place was not plowed. The 4 cylinder engine just didn't have the power in the powder Utah is famous for, and when the manual transmission was shifted all momentum was lost. So we had a 4 wheel drive outfit in St George, UT, install a Gran Vitara V6 and automatic transmission. This worked very well and we were very comfortable going back and forth to our trucks regardless of how much snow we had. We've since moved out of the mountains and have no need for the little Samurai, we sold the tracks and now are selling it. It has the original transfer case and the front axle is manually locked when 4 wheel drive is needed, the rear is not locked. The CB antenna has a cable inside the Suzuki which is several feet long and it will reach any point inside the cab easily. We put new carpet up front, the original carpet/mat is in the rear. I don't believe the front bucket seats are the originals, but they are very comfortable and we put new seat covers on them, the seat foam is in very good condition and the seat adjustments work very well. I believe the rear seat is the original seat and cover, the rear carpet/mat and seat saw very little use and are in excellent condition. The previous owner told me the axle ratio was 4:11, but I've never verified that, but in low range with the tracks on there was nothing that this rig would not climb, it was awesome! The previous owner also had foam installed in most of the recesses of the body, wasn't really sure of why he did this, but there are no rattles and it's easy to stay warm in cold weather. The previous owner was from Arizona, so the Samurai has always been in a desert environment, no rust underneath, solid floors, all sheet metal in great shape.
It's a clean rig, engine runs great, the starter switch developed a problem so instead of replacing the switch and then having to re-key everything we just put in a starter button. So you turn the key on, then hit the button and it fires right up. The tires are in excellent shape, glass is all good. The paint on the exterior is newer, the inside is in decent shape showing normal wear and tear. We also were extremely frustrated with the original hood release, so we removed that and installed the hold downs you see on the front of the hood. The rear glass is tinted, the tint was too dark to pass inspection on the front door windows so had to remove it. The sunroof works fine and does not leak, and the Owners Manual and wiring diagrams for the installation of the Vitara V6 are included. There is a piece of trim missing in front of the passenger side rear wheel flare, and there is a small dent about the size of a 50 cent piece above where that trim is missing along the rear fender flare between 1 and 2 o'clock, you can see it in the close up of the passenger side picture. The shop that installed the V6 marked up the diagrams to show all of the connections they made to the original wiring in the Suzuki. It has a new Gran Vitara radiator in it, and there is an electric fan on a switch for the radiator. We've driven it around where we are and have not had to switch the fan on as it runs at the normal temperature without the fan. This Suzuki Samurai is sold as-is, where-is, the Buyer is responsible for transportation/shipping cost and arrangements. We will be available for the vehicle pick up, but will need to have the transporter schedule the pick up with us. The Buyer must deposit a non-refundable $500 deposit within 24 hours of the close of the auction, and the balance must be received within 5 business days of the close of auction and be made with a certified check that must clear our bank before the vehicle is released. There is no warranty or guarantee expressed or implied, we have a clear title in hand, the vehicle has not been registered for highway use for several years, but we filed a non-op with the State of Utah..I've described the vehicle as accurately as possible, we buy and sell quite a bit on eBay, including buying and selling several vehicles, we describe what we sell and disclose everything as we would like someone to do for us when we are buying. Suzuki, please come back and bring the Alto Works with you
Fri, Dec 25 2015The list of JDM vehicles we'd love to see imported into the United States keeps growing. But if there's one we could wish for in 2016, we dare say it's the one you see here. It's called the Suzuki Alto Works, and it looks like an absolute riot. The Alto, for those unfamiliar, is a tiny little Kei car. It rides on a 97-inch wheelbase and weighs less than 1,350 pounds, which makes it not only smaller than a three-door Mini, but also about half its weight. All it needs is a 660cc inline-three to pull it around the streets of Tokyo. And perhaps best of all, where the previous Alto adopted rounded, cutesy styling, the new model introduced in Japan a year ago takes a more squared-off, industrial design that looks much better to our round eyes. Suzuki made a punchy little Alto Turbo RS version (which you can scope out in the extra gallery below) that increased output to a still-puny 64 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque. And it won multiple awards for its compact, fun-to-drive nature. But now the Japanese automaker has made the Alto even more enticing with the new Works model. It's based on the aforementioned Turbo RS, but packs some key upgrades. Where the Alto Turbo RS was only available with an automatic, the new Alto Works can be had with a short-throw five-speed manual – driving either the front wheels alone or all four. Suzuki also boosted output modestly to 74 lb-ft, improved the throttle response, and recalibrated the steering for better accuracy. New 15-inch wheels are fitted to a retuned suspension with KYB shocks. It's all done up in a gunmetal finish with black trim, red-painted front calipers, and an interior with Recaro racing buckets, steel pedals, red stitching, and a boost gauge that changes color from white to red as it spools up. All of that can be had from only 1,509,840 yen, which may look like a lot, but translates to just $12,500 at current exchange rates. If only Suzuki still sold in the US market, because it does some of the best little hatchbacks around. And the new Alto Works looks like it'd be a hoot to drive.
Junkyard Gem: 2008 Suzuki XL-7
Sun, Jan 21 2024The American Suzuki Motor Corporation filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and sold its final Kizashis, SX4s and Grand Vitaras here the following year. In the decade prior to that, a big chunk of the Suzuki lineup involved rebadged Daewoos, but South Korea wasn't the only outpost of the far-flung GM Empire helping out with Suzuki hardware. After the Saturn Vue debuted as a 2002 model, its platform ended up everywhere, including beneath the second-generation Suzuki XL-7. Here's one of those machines, found in a Denver self-service car graveyard recently. Prior to 2007, the XL-7 name had been applied to a stretched version of the body-on-frame Grand Vitara, a pure Suzuki design. The 2007-2009 XL-7 looked quite different from its closest relatives, the Saturn Vue, Pontiac Torrent and Chevrolet Equinox. Assembly took place at CAMI Assembly in Ontiario, birthplace of many a Geo Metro and Suzuki Swift. The engine is the 3.6-liter version of the 60° High Feature V6, rated at 252 horsepower and 243 pound-feet. A five-speed automatic was the only transmission available. This one is a base model with front-wheel-drive and seating for five. Its MSRP was $21,599, or about $34,419 in 2024 dollars. The radio has an AUX input, a fairly unusual feature in 2008. Inside, one of the most heartbreaking notes I've ever found in a junkyard car. Does the Tooth Fairy give money to kids who knock out the teeth of other kids and steal them? It's like a Suzuki motorcycle, but with more cargo capacity. Those Suzuki-riding bikers know a good SUV when they see one. Who knew that it wouldn't be long before motorcycles and ATVs would be the only new Suzukis available here?
Suzuki Jimny Lite is a blank canvas for off-road enthusiasts
Tue, Jun 22 2021One of the most desirable new vehicles for sale right now is the Suzuki Jimny. The compact 4x4 was developed with a "less is more" philosophy, giving off-roaders everything they need to traverse harsh terrain, but with an affordable price and none of the luxo-fluff that many modern trucks come with. Now, Suzuki has announced an even more bare-bones Jimny Lite that delivers exactly what four-wheelers want in a no-nonsense, affordable package. First and foremost, the Jimny Lite will still offer the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 101 horsepower and 96 pound-feet of torque, along with the same low-range four-wheel-drive and ladder frame construction that make the original such a great little off-roading machine. However, while regular Jimnys have a four-speed automatic option, the Jimny Lite will be offered with only one transmission choice, a five-speed manual. Rather than alloys, the rig — called the "Diet Jimny" in an image filename on Suzuki Australia's website — will come with 15-inch steel wheels, tougher and cheaper than aluminum. Other exterior changes include halogen headlights rather than LED projectors, deleted fog lamps, and the subtle substitute of plastic textured side mirrors instead of the current gloss black units. Cabin wise, the infotainment touchscreen that includes satellite navigation as standard will be replaced with a old-school in-dash radio and CD player. Bluetooth is still included, though, so you can still stream navigation and digital music from your phone. Additionally, the digital climate controls will be chucked for a manually operated system. This sounds like a dream come true for enthusiasts, who tend to enjoy using their own aftermarket wheels, auxiliary lighting, and stereo options. Though pricing hasn't been announced, the Suzuki Jimny Lite will presumably be even more affordable, giving wrenchers a blank canvas to build their own rigs without paying up front for stuff they don't need. It's like when Toyota offered the 86 RC, a steel-wheeled, unpainted-bumper version of the 86 for race car builds. Unfortunately, like the 86 RC, the Jimny's sale area does not include the United States. The Jimny is available in its native Japan, south of our border, in Europe, Australia, as well as several other markets around the world. We don't see it coming stateside anytime soon, but that hasn't stopped us from longing for a Jimny from afar. With the Jimny Lite, our desire grows even stronger.
