Bought this in 2008 when it had 106,000 miles. Have driven it almost 100,000 miles. Amount one month ago, it was sitting at the curb idling and I was at someone's door talking with them. Engine made odd noise and stopped. I went out to it and tried to start it. Wouldn't start. Made noise like when battery not strong enough to turn it over. I knew this was not the case. Had it towed to a Chrysler / Nissan dealer's garage. They investigated and found that an idler pulley on the timing belt had froze. That put much strain on the cam shaft pulley and it broke and the timing belt broke too. We decided to replace those parts and see if it would run. When those new parts were installed it started right up. At that point we also put in a new water pump. Have driven it several hundred miles since then and it has given no trouble at all. When timing belt broke, mileage was 201,187 and now mileage is 201,429. But in the meantime, we bought a new car. So, we are selling this one. We have enjoyed this car a bunch and hate to part w it. But, new car has much fewer miles. I have changed oil regularly and used Wix filters. I usually use 20W50 oil in all my cars. On the interstate I drive about 60 mph. Radio and A/C work. Ever since I have had it, it seems to shift w a little thump when going into a higher gear. Has gotten very slightly worse over the yrs. Have never thought till recently that I might just need to change the transmission fluid or clean out the filter there. There is a trailer hitch on it, but all we have ever hauled is to put a bike rack on it and haul our bicycles. New alternator about 2 yrs ago. New radiator about 1 yr ago. New left front axle about 2 yrs ago. We have never had any wreck at all w it. As far as we can tell by looking underneath, no one else has. When I had this car to Lou Fusz Subaru in St Louis, he had it on his cptr system and noted that it had a new engine put in it at 60,000. Lou Fuzs said that the factory engine began to knock a little at the end of the factory warranty and they honored it and put in a new engine.

Subaru recalls 81,000 Impreza models for airbag replacement
Sun, May 31 2015Subaru has submitted paperwork to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding an Impreza recall to replace faulty Takata airbag inflators, and the final tally is 81,100 units built between January 28, 2003 and May 31, 2005. Earlier this month Subaru had projected 78,000 Imprezas would be recalled from the 2004 and 2005 model years, but that final number also includes the Saab 9-2x; that Saab model, nicknamed the "Saabaru," was a badge-engineered Impreza Wagon that General Motors began selling in 2004. Affected Saab models were built from February 11, 2004 to March 17, 2005. This recall specifically affects passenger-side inflators, and Subaru and GM will notify owners that they can take their cars to the dealer for a free repair. The recall doesn't officially begin, however, until July 17, 2015. The notice from the NHTSA below has more information. Related Video: Report Receipt Date: MAY 28, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V323000 Component(s): AIR BAGS Potential Number of Units Affected: 81,100 Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.SUMMARY: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 Impreza vehicles manufactured January 28, 2003, to May 31, 2005, and 2005 Saab 9-2x vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to March 17, 2005. The affected vehicles are equipped with a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.CONSEQUENCE: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.REMEDY: Subaru will notify their owners and General Motors will notify Saab owners. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 27, 2015. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Owners of Saab vehicles may call 1-800-955-9007. Subaru's number for this recall is WQR-53. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 14V-763 in that model year 2004 through 2005 Subaru Impreza and model year 2005 Saab 9-2x vehicles are now only part of this campaign.NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Everything new at the 2019 New York International Auto Show
Wed, Apr 24 2019Transcript: Welcome to the 2019 New York Auto Show. It's the last auto show, and so far it's my favorite of the year. We have a new buggy, compact pickup and trail ready SUV from Volkswagen. Ford brought the new Escape and a new Mustang performance variant, and we have a brand new Toyota Highlander and Subaru Outback. Let's go take a look around. We're here at the New York Auto Show with the Subaru stand. Normally the Subaru stand is just some white carpet and some show lighting. This year it's like we're in a national park. It's ... Frankly, I'm from Oregon. You're from Colorado. Yeah. It's making us feel at home. And in that way what better place and what better people to introduce this Subaru Outback which is pretty much the official car of Colorado and Oregon. Yeah. You actually have to buy a Subaru before they let you move to Colorado. Now instead of climbing up there and taking a look because we've been told we can't do that we're gonna go over there and check out another one. So the exterior, not that different. No. Looks exactly like an Outback. There's actually oddly a little more black plastic trim on the outside. A little too much for me. Right. It's interesting because it kind of slowly went away from that from the beginning because in the beginning the black plastic trim kind of made it an Outback, and now they're kind of bringing it back. I guess they needed to make it more macho. Right. Right. Now we're inside. Inside it looks pretty different. Swank. It's kind of swank for an Outback which has been pretty plain. Now this is the newly available vertically gigantic touch screen here. 11.6 inches. That is massive. This is how big it is when it's turned on ... just for the viewers. Now this is the onyx trim. So with that you get the black mirrors, the black wheels. This upholstery is special to the onyx, so it's gray and black and you also have this green stitching. Yeah, I like this accent stitching. It's kind of neat. Oh there's also a little tray there. Well this is a deep bin here. You can probably fit a phone. There we go. Almost. Yeah there are two USB ports. There's an additional two in the backseat. So this thing here you pop in the cup holder and it gives you a little more space or less space. These are really big, so if you have one of those Nalgene bottles I'm guessing it's going to fit in there. One of my complaints about my Subaru that I own now which is a naturally aspirated Crosstrek is that up in the mountains. It's slow?
