1998 Subaru Postal Wagon Factory Right Hand Drive All wheel drive Green Mileage 213638 Inspection 10/14 Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The mileage on this vehicle is a combination of route miles and regular driving miles, I worked 25 miles from home so 50 miles per day were for driving back and forth and 38 miles for the route 11 days in two weeks. The last 18 months it has not been used often. Air conditioner and heater work very well. This car has ran well the 6 years I’ve had it. It is very reliable and if I didn’t need the money I wouldn’t be selling it. Also I no longer work for the post office so it is not needed for work. I have done lots of repairs like tie rod ends, axle boots, replaced fuel filter two times, replaced plugs, wires and coil two times, both catalytic converters were replaced. And of coarse brakes and rotors every 6 to 8 months. There is a new radiator, replaced about 2 years ago. Idle air control valve was replaced. All the pulley’s inside the motor that runs the water pump and belts were replaced along with the water pump. Timing belt was replaced at 150,000 miles. Starter was replaced. Two years ago I replaced the transmission with a used one. Both oxygen sensors on the exhausts have been replaced. What is needed soon: front brakes and rotors, last time I replaced front brakes I didn’t replace the rotors and you can tell, it thumps when on the brake heavy. Tires are good but may be needed for inspection in October. Things wrong with car: The antenna is broken so the radio stations do not come in well, I have a Pioneer CD played installed so I just listen to audio books. Plus four Sony speakers, right now the rear speakers are not working only because the plugs vibrate off occasionally. One of the speed sensor controls isn’t working properly causing a squealing noise when it is driven and sometimes the speedometer/odometer does not work. I have researched this problem and found out there is 5 or 6 speed sensors on this car. One in each wheel and two on the transmission. I figured out that one of the speed sensors on the transmission controls the odometer/speedometer so I am pretty sure its on the trans but I have not replaced it because I am not positive as to these findings. This speed sensor control also triggers the engine light on but with a code reader it easily clears. The other issue it has is when its cold and you go up a hill or need extra power to accelerate it bogs out and stales. Once you stop and restart it the car runs fine. This also causes the engine light to go on and the codes are miss fire codes. Since I have replaced plugs, wired, coil, both catalytic converters, and o2 sensors, I haven’t figured out what causes this. This does not happen a lot so it’s hard to figure out. I was told it may be the exhaust manifold gasket but I am not sure. The exterior of this vehicle has been painted with different colors to try to prevent rusting because the paint is peeling off. There is some body rust around the wheel fenders that are bubbling up and the insides of both back doors were holes, these holes were repaired with Bondo and primer but not painted. The front bumper was cut off half way down because it would hit on some of the driveways. This passed inspection with the bumper cut off. There is a dent on the left side rear door, this has been sanded down and painted over but not pulled out and other “typical mail box damage”. I have tried to be as honest as possible about everything with this vehicle. |

Fuji Heavy Industries changes name to Subaru Corp. in 2017
Fri, May 13 2016Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. plans to celebrate its centennial by changing its name to Subaru Corporation on April 1, 2017, in a move that emphasizes the company's automotive business. The change is pending approval at the company's shareholder meeting on June 28. "The purpose of this shift is to further accelerate our efforts to enhance the Subaru brand and achieve even greater growth for Subaru as a distinctive global brand in the automotive and aerospace industries," the company said in a statement. The company forecasts its global vehicle sales will top 1 million for the first time in 2017. Fuji traces its roots to the founding of the Aircraft Research Laboratory, which later became Nakajima Aircraft Co., in 1917. The Fuji Heavy Industries name was launched in 1953, and the core auto business began under the Subaru name in 1958. Though Subaru is a well-known car brand, it is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster, and it serves as a symbol of the six sibling companies that formed Fuji in 1953. It currently plays in a wide range of sectors, including aerospace and industrial products. Subaru investigation confirms vehicle data tampering in Japan
Tue, May 1 2018Subaru has admitted that alteration of fuel-economy and emissions data took place in its Gunma and Yajima manufacturing plants between December 2012 and November 2017. Some 900 vehicles were affected by data tampering, which Subaru says was done in the vehicles' final inspections by factory-floor inspectors. In a report, Subaru says "non-conforming" final vehicle inspections were identified in late 2017, and that the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism demanded that Subaru undertake an internal investigation of the matter. Almost 7,000 vehicles were subject to inspection in the investigated time period, and the measurement equipment retained test data for some 6,500 of those. It showed that 903 vehicles had had their data "inappropriately altered," partially so that average data values would meet quality control standards. Subaru says that the decision to do this was made among vehicle inspectors and their foremen. As Subaru's statement reads: "Inspectors engaging in sampling of fuel economy and emissions were instructed by their seniors that, if results for each vehicle did not meet such standards, measurement values should be altered to those that meet such standards, and, according to such instructions, the inspectors altered measurement values. [...] Even if there were no problems in comparison with the internal quality control standards, inspectors altered measurement values with the intention of reducing variance in measurement values in order to avoid questions from the Group Chiefs and the Section Chief on such variance. It should be noted that alterations were made not only to make results better, but also to make them worse." It appears that everything was done to keep the average values right. Subaru adds: "Although the relevant laws and regulations stipulate that, in certain limited cases, measurement values could be altered in order to adjust errors caused by measurement equipment, inspectors misunderstand such adjustment method because of deficient internal rules and inadequate training. Inspectors altered measurement values by adjustment methods not stipulated in the relevant laws and regulations, without understanding that their methods were inappropriate." Test equipment did not contain data from earlier than 2012, but Subaru suspects such tampering took place as long ago as 2002. However, the matter will not result in recalls.
Subaru teases Viziv Adrenaline Concept crossover for Geneva
Tue, Feb 19 2019The latest installment in Subaru's Viziv line of concept vehicles is set for a reveal at the Geneva Motor Show next month. It's called the Viziv Adrenaline, and it'll add to a pair of electrified "e-Boxer" models on display, possibly the e-Boxer version of the Forester and a Crosstrek plug-in hybrid, which is branded as the XV in Europe. We're limited to this darkened, front three-quarters view for clues about the Viziv Adrenaline. It appears to be a two-door, raised crossover with bulging quarter panels, an interesting undulating belt line and plenty of creases for a rugged look. It also appears to sport futuristic-looking rearview cameras in place of conventional mirrors, and the LED headlights look pretty close to the ones found on last year's Viziv Tourer. Also, two cutouts at the top of the hood may indicate the presence of a combustion engine. Given that this is called the Viziv Adrenaline, are we looking at a performance model? Viziv is Subaru-parlance for "Vision for Innovation," so there are doubtless more details in store for us in Geneva. Last year's Viziv Tourer Concept presaged a production WRX wagon, and the Viziv Performance Concept from 2017 previewed a possible future WRX (don't forget the Viziv Performance STI Concept from last year's Tokyo Auto Salon). While Subaru has given us reasons to be wary about its concepts' ties to future production models in the past, don't forget the Viziv-7 did indeed become the Ascent three-row SUV. The Viziv Adrenaline debut is scheduled for March 5. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
