It is now a pearl blue so dark that you can only see that it's blue in brightest sunlight. There are gravel dings to be expected on a car this age. There's a scratch on the rear bumper and the stitching on the drivers side seat bolster is showing the effects of an ass getting in and out thousands of times.Oh yes, the clock doesn't work...fuse maybe?"

TALE OF A ONE OWNER 2002 WRX

YES, I AM THE SECOND OWNER BUT THAT WAS ONLY AS OF JULY 12 OF THIS YEAR AND I'M AN OLD GUY (62) TOO.

I FOUND THIS CAR ON THE INTERNET AT A DEALERSHIP AND FELL IN LOVE DAYDREAMING OVER ALL THE BEAUTIFUL PICTURES OF IT AND MANY OF THOSE SAME PICTURES ARE HERE FOR  YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE.

I LOVE THAT THE CAR CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITHOUT THAT RIDICULOUS "SPOILER" AND IT HAS ONE OF THE PRETTIEST BUTTS IN ALL CARDOME IN MY OPINION.

UNASSUMING, LOW-KEY, HAUL ASS.

I WAS HELPLESS TO RESIST AND WHEN I REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS, I  FOUND MYSELF DRIVING IT BACK TO L.A. FROM SAN MATEO...IT TOOK ME OVER TWO HOURS TO GO FIFTY MILES IN BAY AREA TRAFFIC ON A HOT FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND I CAN REPORT THAT THE CLUTCH NEVER COMPLAINED, THE TEMP GAUGE NEVER MOVED AND THE A/C BLEW ICE COLD AND THE CD PLAYER (AUDIO BOOK) WORKED PERFECTLY.

ONCE THE TRAFFIC CLEARED AND I WAS DOING 85-90 MOST OF THE WAY, THE CAR WAS AS STABLE AND SMOOTH AS A MAGIC CARPET.

THE SAD NEWS FOR ME IS, THE JOB I DO CUT OFF AT THE SAME TIME I BOUGHT THE CAR AND LEFT ME FEELING LIKE WILE E. COYOTE AFTER HE CHASED THE ROADRUNNER OFF THE CLIFF AND LOOKED DOWN.

WHAT I HAVE TO TELL YOU NEXT IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT YOU DECIDE TO GET THIS CAR.

I WANTED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHO HAD BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, SO I COULD ASK HIM ABOUT IT.

THAT WAS GOING TO BE IMPOSSIBLE BUT FOR ONE LITTLE QUIRKY HABIT HE HAD...STUCK TO THE INSIDE OF THE TRUNK LID WERE VISITOR STICKERS FROM DIFFERENT COMPANIES IN SILICON VALLEY, THE TYPE OF STICKERS YOU'D PUT ON YOUR SHIRT THAT GAVE YOUR NAME AND YOUR COMPANY NAME.

YOU CAN IMAGINE MY EXCITEMENT WHEN I LOOKED HIM AND HIS COMPANY UP AND HE HAS WEBSITES AND VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE.

I SENT AN INTRODUCTION TO HIS CONTACT ADDRESS BUT I NEVER HEARD ONE WORD BACK SO I TRIED ONE MORE TIME AND REALIZED THAT COMMUNICATING WITH ME WASN'T SOMETHING HE WANTED SO I'LL TELL YOU WHAT I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT AND THEN SOME SPECULATION ON MY PART.

ACCORDING TO WHERE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT, REGISTERED AND SERVICED, (CARFAX) I SURMISE THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE BETWEEN HIS HOME AREA AND WHERE HE WORKED.

BY HOW HE LOOKS ON HIS VIDEOS, HE LOOKS TO BE IN HIS MID 50'S, HE IS A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, INVENTOR  AS WELL.

IN OTHER WORDS, A MILD MANNERED, MIDDLE AGED CREATIVE GENIUS AND NOT SOME TEENAGER SUFFERING FROM TESTOSTERONE POISONING.

(OUT OF RESPECT FOR HIS UNSPOKEN WISH TO BE LEFT ALONE, I WILL REMOVE THE STICKERS FROM THE TRUNK LID AND NOT REVEAL HIS NAME)

THIS TELLS ME THAT THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED BUT WELL MAINTAINED AND THE STICKER ON THE LICENCE PLATE IS GOOD UNTIL MARCH 2014.

THE TIRES ARE EXCELLENT, AND THE WHEELS HAVE NO CURB RASH...WHICH IS A MIRACLE.

IT'S BEEN UP ON A LIFT SINCE I GOT IT HOME AND I WAS TOLD THE BRAKES ARE GOOD AND THERE ARE NO LEAKS ANYWHERE.

THERE ARE NO CREAKS OR RATTLES AND THE ENGINE SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL AND WHEN I STICK MY FOOT IN IT ON  AN ON RAMP, IT JUST PULLS HARD FROM 4K TO 6K...I NEVER GO PAST 6K RPM, WHY SHOULD I?

I HAD AN '02 WRX WAGON THAT I BOUGHT NEW WHICH I TRADED IN ON AN '05 SEDAN WHICH I TRADED IN ON AN '06 EVO9 BUT I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT THE WRX.

ANYWAY, IN SOME WAYS IT SHOWS IT'S AGE BUT FOR THE MOST PART IT'S REAL FINE.

IT HAS BEEN REPAINTED BUT I DON'T KNOW WHEN AND YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THAT IT LOOKS GREAT.

I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY AS IT IS BEING ADVERTISED LOCALLY AS WELL.

I DON'T DRIVE IT NOW SINCE I DECIDED TO SELL IT BUT MAYBE JUST ONE MORE TIME...

2018 Subaru WRX Drivers' Notes | Turbo traditionalist

Fri, Oct 6 2017

Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: The Subaru Impreza WRX is one of my favorite enthusiast sedans. It's invigorating, just a bit raw and makes you want to drive it more and more. Our tester has subtle blue paint and aggressive black wheels, which strike the right tone. It's sporty without being stupid. Inside is black leather, red stitching, and plastics that are decent, or at least non-offensive. Good looking car, overall. I was excited for my one-night stint in the WRX. I blitzed home, dashing in and out of traffic in the lower gears. This thing is like a hovercraft, and with the windows down and the engine growling and buzzing, I made record time. The steering is tight, the clutch engagement is heavy, and the brakes have just the right amount of pedal depth. I felt focused and in control. I've always felt the WRX is the right Impreza for me. The STI is awesome, but unusable for many everyday driving experiences. I could live with the WRX longterm, and love it. This content is hosted by a third party. Associate Editor Joel Stocksdale: If you've ever lamented that turbo cars don't feel like turbo cars anymore, you should check out a WRX. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four definitely takes a page from the peaky boosted beasts of the past. Driven at low rpms and gently enough that boost still builds, the turbo is laggy and takes a while to hit peak boost. This means that in mild driving, you'll be just shy of the speed limit when the turbo whacks you in the back, and you'll have to jump back off the accelerator just a moment later. But the rush of the turbo kicking in is still pretty entertaining, and a unique feeling that has been engineered out of a lot of other turbo cars. If you drive the WRX hard, though, the turbo engine becomes much easier to work with. The lag disappears, and the turbo spools right up. But you do have to be running the boxer right up close to redline to keep it responsive. These characteristics aren't something I personally enjoy. But the way the rest of the WRX drives is spot on for me. The steering is weighted nicely, and the car is very responsive. It also feels quite neutral, much more so than even good front-drive and front-biased all-wheel-drive cars. There's a bit of lean, but the chassis is always composed and communicative. And the benefit of the slightly roll-y suspension is that the WRX has impressive ride quality.

Nissan exec Andy Palmer derides Toyobaru coupes as 'midlife crisis' cars

Mon, 28 Oct 2013

Andy Palmer, Nissan's executive vice president, does not like the Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ. To us, that's like saying you enjoy barbecuing puppies, but we'll let him slide, because his statements about the Toyobaru twins are much, much more than just idle trash talk.
Speaking to Motor Trend's Nate Martinez, Palmer said, "Do we have any competitors [in the small, rear-drive coupe segment]? Are you talking about the Subaru [BRZ]? It was a car designed for a 50-year-old. It's for a midlife crisis. That's not what we do." Strong words, but what followed was even better.
"Are you coming to the Tokyo Motor Show? You'll see the answer to the midlife crisis. Except it won't be for the midlife crisis." So, if you were wondering whether Nissan is working on a competitor to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, the answer seems to be a resounding "yes."

Subaru facing class-action suit over excess oil use

Tue, 22 Jul 2014

A recently filed lawsuit in federal court against Subaru of America and its parent Fuji Heavy Industries claims that several recent models burn an excessive amount of oil. The case, which is seeking class-action status, covers examples of the 2011-2014 Forester, 2013 Legacy and 2013 Outback with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and the 2012-2013 Impreza and 2013 XV Crosstrek with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
The suit alleges that Subaru knew about the excessive oil consumption but didn't fix the problem, according to USA Today. It contends that owners have to spend an unreasonable amount of money to keep these models topped up with Texas tea, and that the people represented wouldn't have bought the vehicle if they had known that this could happen.
As proof of Subaru's knowledge of excessive oil use, the lawsuit cites four technical service bulletins from the company telling dealers about the issue, although, that would seem to partially invalidate the claim that the automaker hasn't attempted to fix things. The case was filed on behalf of two men, one with a 2014 Forester and the other with a 2013 Outback. "Following an extensive investigation, we now look forward to litigating the case," said Matthew Schelkopf, an attorney for the plaintiffs, to USA Today.
