You're looking at my pride and joy, beautifully murdered out, 2008 Subaru WRX STI. People say it all the time, but for me I say this with true sincerity - I really do not want to sell this car. :( Sometimes life doesn't smile on you as much and I've found myself in a much less happier financial situation than when I bought this car. So ...

This car is ffffffast! I'm the second owner. The first owner put more than $10k extra into it to the tune of 82 more horsepower than stock. That's a total of 382 horsepower. Let me pause for a brief anecdote - I'll readily admit that I'm a big fan of Goldrush Alaska. Well, I was looking at the 3rd season recently when the narrator was describing the awesome power of the bulldozers the crew uses. The dozers are employed to do big work like clearing granite boulders from the side of mountains. Take a moment to consider that these dozers are rated at 300 horsepower. Now imagine having almost 30% more total of that power purring right under your foot. Again, I say, this car is ffffffast!

Overall the car is very clean. And despite it being 5 years old it still has hints of "new car" freshness inside. It has been garage kept, and despite all its upgrades to lead you thinking otherwise, it has never ever been raced. It has never been in an accident for that matter either. Thanks to the garage and my driving it very little (I've put less than 20k miles on it in the 3 years I've owned it) it still has a healthy layer of clear coat. As you can see from the pictures it shines right up when clean and looks amazing during evening drives in the city.

A list of the upgrades includes the following - all of which were professionally installed and I have all the receipts to prove it:

1. Turbo kit
2. Upgraded injectors
3. Upgraded fuel pump
4. Mishimoto radiator
5. Turbo blanket
6. Upgraded brakes
7. Upgraded alloy wheels
8. All weather mats
9. Aluminium shifter
10. Boost, exhaust temp, etc. digital multi-gauge
11. Upgraded exhaust kit
12. Computer reprogramming kit
13. Thoroughly upgraded suspension (too much to list, but, again, have the receipts of all the work)
14. Dyno-tuned
15. Yakima roof rack base (crossbars not shown but are included)
16. Bumper scuff guard
17. iPod line-in adapter

18. Tinted glass

Additionally the car has a brand new VA inspection and just got an oil change.

I'm letting this go at less than blue book even though all the extras put it way north of that value. Here's the deal, despite all the good it's not perfect. There are aesthetic blemishes that need to be taken care of before the car is perfect. Though it's your choice, of course, the car is exceptional even with the blemishes. I've included pictures of these for full disclosure. I parked too close when I was rushed one day resulting in the blemish under the front fender. Then the back fender got scuffed while it was parked; the person responsible for it didn't leave a note. I got the work estimated at $1500 but then, like now, I didn't have the financial means. So you buy this car, put it in the body shop for a week, and come out with a perfect car with tons of extras for an incredible deal!

I forgot to include all the pictures.  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/89coda4wqktat6v/psG9x49TO6

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013

Wed, 02 Jan 2013

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.

'Baby Driver' stunt Impreza WRX sells for nearly $70,000

Sun, Aug 27 2017

Well that escalated quickly. When we reported that the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX used for driving stunts in the movie Baby Driver was being auctioned on eBay, bidding had taken the car up to over $40,000. Now the car has sold, and the price rocketed up to $69,100, and there were 71 bids on the car when it sold. That may seem like a large sum of money for a banged up Impreza WRX with a few prior wrecks. But the price starts to make sense considering how unique the car is. Besides starring in a great movie with superb stunts, it's one of the few WRXs out there converted to rear-wheel drive. As stunt driver Jeremy Fry told us, this was done to make it easier to perform some of the stunts. This Impreza isn't the only Baby Driver movie car to sell, either. The same Subaru parts and car dealer selling the WRX was also selling a wrecked, but drivable, Dodge Charger police car. That one didn't attract nearly as much attention though. It sold for the same $3,000 bid we saw when we reported on the cars. It was one of only two bids. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Xcar rates AWD vs. FWD vs. RWD

Tue, Feb 24 2015

With snow and ice blanketing large swathes of the United States over the past few weeks, commuting hasn't been easy. Among some drivers, there's an ongoing debate about how much all-wheel drive really helps when it gets slippery and whether rear-drive is as bad in slick conditions as many people think. Xcar Films puts some of those beliefs to the test in its latest video by showing off three very different cars taking on a trio of low-grip challenges. Xcar's picks for the test include the fairly plebeian, all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza, the somewhat plush, rear-drive BMW 120d and the sporty, front-drive Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy. Things start out easy with a hydraulic plate forcing the back end out on a wet skid pad. From there, the tests get really interesting with a slalom on simulated ice, and the cars finish with a high-speed cornering challenge through a soaked turn. While an obvious winner emerges in the end, keep in mind this is hardly a scientific test of grip. For better accuracy, all three vehicles should be wearing identical tires, and the same driver should be behind the wheel of each one. Still, Xcar's examination is a fun chance to see how vehicles react when things get slick.
