You are bidding on a 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon (VIN# JF1GG29632G822238). I am the original owner of this car, I bought it when they first became available in the US. I knew they were going to be great cars, and this one has not disappointed me.
I have loved driving it for the entire 130k miles that are on the car. The only reason why I am parting with it is because my commute to work is now taking me through downtown traffic and it's time for me to get a new WRX, but with the automatic for the bumper to bumper traffic I will likely be facing. I have not regretted a single mile in this car. Important notes on the car: - I have kept all service records on the car, I always used synthetic oil, and there are no leaks nor burning smoke coming from the engine. - The seats are in very good condition. There are no tears, holes or large stains. - The car has never been wrecked. The only body damage that has occurred resulted from things lightly denting it during Hurricane Wilma, and one light hit to the left passenger door while it was in a parking lot. All body work was done professionally by a dealership body shop. - This car is loaded with every option that was available in 2002. It has the sport instrument cluster, the upgraded Subaru sound system, and the alarm system, among other options. - I purchased the protective cargo tray and mats. Recent services performed/parts replaced: - Heavy duty clutch installed at 90k miles. - Both rear struts were replaced ($400 each side) - Both front CV joints were replaced recently - AC serviced and the expansion valve and drier was replaced - Most light bulbs were replaced with LED bulbs - New auto-dimming rear view mirror with electronic compass Additional Items Installed: - Turbo boost controller that allows the engine to be switched from low to high boost for power or economy modes. - Computer programmer that allows the computer to be programmed with various maps (profiles) for a range of modes from high performance to economy to stock modes in just a few seconds. - 17" wheels and tires with plenty of tread. - Subaru slotted high performance rotors and pads. - Radar detector - Remote start so the car AC will cool the car down on a hot day before you get in it. - Short shifter with nylon bushings (the original Subaru rubber bushings always wear out and the shifter gets sloppy. This shifter is tight.) - Borla stainless exhaust bought through Subaru. This is NOT a "fart pipe". It is a deep, bass-filled tone that sounds more like a V-8. - Exhaust up-pipe to the turbo. - Larger turbo (I still have the original turbo and it was working well when I removed it at 110k miles.) - STI version hood scoop. This is a Subaru part that allows more air to cool the intercooler. - Trailer hitch. I used it with a rear-mounted bike rack. - Tinted windows Things to note: - There are a few chips in the paint around the front that you would expect on a car of this age. - The heavier clutch has a little bit of chatter if you try to start too softly. - Since I use RainX, I have never used the windshield washer system. I think the supply tubes dried out since there has never been washer fluid in them. - In the sport instrument cluster, the oil pressure gauge does not work. The oil indicator in the dash works, but this is an add-on option that relies on a wire that goes into the oil drain plug underneath the engine. Objects and branches on the road cut this wire, and after the 3rd time repairing it, I did not repair it when it was cut again. Easy to fix. It is the buyer's responsibility to test drive and ask any and all questions regarding this car. I will try to answer everything to the extent that I am able, and I will make myself available for showing the car based on my schedule. This is a used car in a private sale, so there is no warranty and the sale is final, so please test drive the car first and ask me any questions that you think are important. |

Subaru brings back the Barkley dogs in new TV spots
Tue, Jan 23 2018Who let the dogs out? Subaru did. And they're bringing them back. The company announced it's bringing back the Barkley family of Labradors and Golden Retrievers for a new series of TV spots called "Dog Tested. Dog Approved." Subaru aired the four 30-second ads during the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, which it has sponsored for 14 years. They'll repeat on network and cable broadcasts and feature in targeted digital and social media promotions. Subaru used the Barkleys most recently to unveil its new Ascent three-row SUV during its "Welcome to SubaruVille" event at the L.A. Auto Show late last year. The stunt was widely deemed adorable. The family of dogs have appeared in the automaker's ads as far back as 2009. "With more than half of Subaru drivers having pets, we believe it is important to celebrate the love of pets shared by our owners," Alan Bethke, senior vice president of marketing at Subaru of America, said in a statement. "Pets are considered members of our Subaru family and utilizing the Barkleys in our campaigns allows us to connect with our customers in an authentic, fun and entertaining way." The new ads are "Car Wash," embedded atop this post; "Drop Off," about the first day of obedience school; "Driving Lesson," in which a parallel parking lesson is complicated by passing geese; and "Drive Away," about a teenage dog being picked up by his father at the Dog Bowl. Subaru said it will also sponsor this year's "Puppy Bowl XIV," which airs February 4 on Animal Planet on the same day as the Super Bowl, and it plans to partner with BuzzFeed and Funny or Die on custom content branded with the hash tag #MakeADogsDay later on in the campaign. Subaru partners with animal welfare organizations like the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as part of its Subaru Loves Pets campaign.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. 2015 Subaru WRX caught testing in US on Mulholland
Fri, 07 Jun 2013In April, we got our first glimpse at the 2015 2015 Subaru WRX - the car was caught in STI form in photos and in motion running around Germany's infamous Nürburgring. That's all well and good, but obviously Subaru will sell a good number of the hotter Impreza models here in the United States, and thus, it's nice to now see a video of the next WRX testing out in California, albeit in what looks to be non-STI form.
Originally posted on the Subaru Owners Club website, this video comes from YouTube user 31200MulhollandHwy. And that's quite appropriate, since the video clearly shows the now de-winged WRX prototype testing on the well-known - you guessed it - Mulholland Highway. Just like before, we're disappointed that the prototypes spotted testing don't appear to be as bold and beautiful as the WRX Concept that Subaru brought to this year's New York Auto Show. Nevertheless, we'll hold our final judgments until the camouflage is peeled away.
Have a look below to see (and hear!) the 2015 WRX running up Mulholland.
J.D. Power dependability survey is out, but you shouldn't depend on it
Wed, Feb 14 2018J.D. Power has just released its latest automotive dependability survey, which of course has usual suspects Buick and Lexus ranking high. Those are safe and solid findings, surely. But when you look a little closer, there are curiosities. Our Consumer Editor, Jeremy Korzeniewski, offered an explanation a couple of years back for why this survey should be viewed with a degree of skepticism, and his take is worth a re-read. What jumped out at Jeremy were the relatively low spots assigned to Mazda, Subaru and Scion among the ranking of makes. Back in 2016 when he wrote his piece, they were ranked 21st, 23rd and 24th respectively. In this year's survey, Mazda ranks 15th and Subaru 26th, both below the industry average of 142 reported problems per 100 vehicles. (And Scion, of course, is in car-brand heaven.) Now, part of what is going on here is surely the fact that all automotive brands are producing dependable vehicles compared with years gone by, so the degree of variance between the best and worst on the list is not as great as it once was. "For the most part, automotive manufacturers continue to meet consumers' vehicle dependability expectations," Dave Sargent, a J.D. Power vice president, said in a statement. "A 9 percent improvement is extremely impressive, and vehicle dependability is, without question, at its best level ever." That said, when a brand like Subaru, regarded by many as mechanically bulletproof, ranks 26th, it leaves people who know cars scratching their heads. Something there does not compute. The problem, as Jeremy pointed out, is one of methodology: When he wrote his piece, there was no weighting assigned to the problems reported in the survey. And that still appears to be the case. Therefore, a problem with an infotainment system or a loose piece of trim is deemed as serious as a blown engine or leaky transmission. (And yes, infotainment is still the biggest problem across the board.) Jeremy's point: If the categories of problems were weighted, you'd see a different picture. When you look at the Consumer Reports brand rankings (subscription required), you get a very different picture. in CR's rankings, Subaru is No. 6 among brands, which, well, sounds a lot more like it. CR singles out the redesigned 2017 Impreza as a car with some new-model problems. (The BRZ had the fewest.) The two surveys jibe a little more closely when it comes to Mazda, which CR ranks 12th, a drop of six places from previous-year rankings.
