1992 Subaru SVX AWD 5 spd

PLANET SVX is selling 1 of their favorite cars
First and formost, Im in Tucson but the car is in storage in Philly PA RIGHT NOW.
So if you are on the eastcoast, this will save you alot on shipping unless
You just want to go pick it up and drive it home.
Secondly, the savlage title issue. This car was in a 10 mph impact with
a metal gate at a car dealership as it was pulling out of the dealer,
the gate was closed and the last owner didnt see it due to the setting
sun in his eyes. So it damaged the windshield, fender and door.
The car was fixed easily with a NEW windshield from the dealer and
a good rust free door and fender off another Az car.  The paint was done
to match on the door and fender and looked good. Since then the cars
been sitting in the Sun here in Az and the roof and trunk area are faded
alot and showing the worst of it all.

The 5 spd conversion was done before we got the car and it runs and drives
great. No weird noises or grinding from the drivetrain. Its just a fun car
to jump in and use as a daily driver. Being an SVX of course it a performance
car, but to me its more of a hwy cruiser or touring car to compete with Lexus
and BMW etc. which these cars do VERY WELL if not better.

DRIVETRAIN: original motor with about 145k on it. Runs great with
no check engine lights. Gas mileage too on this car is better then any of
my automatic SVXs. Its had some recent stuff done in the last 20k miles
like belts and stuff too.  Brakes feel great too.
It does have some nice aftermarket MB Motoring 17" wheels too with
good decent tires, 245 45 17s.

INTERIOR: leather is pretty nice for its age, but the drivers seat
shows the worst of it. Rest of it is nicer and in good shape for its age.
Being here in the desert the last few yrs no worry about mold etc in
the carpet.  The SONY Deck CD player in there is almost new and as are
some of the speakers.

SUSPENSION: pretty much all stock but feels good for its age
With no weird noises and rides well. Of course there are upgrades
offered thru the Planet SVX site for these cars all over the place.

BODY: overall the body is in nice rust free condition. Body gaps
line up like factory and other then some door dings its in good
shape for its age. The front bumper cover has some minor damage
too. I didnt have a chance to polish out the headlight lenses before
it got shipped back east.

This or That: 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 vs. 2005 Subaru WRX STI [w/poll]

Thu, May 7 2015

Some cars, due to ultimate desirability, particular rareness, or spectacular performance/prestige eventually become collectible. It's darn near impossible to know which ones will make it into the rarefied stratosphere of collectibility – why is a late 1960s AMC AMX so affordable these days, whereas prices for late '70s Pontiac Trans Ams are soaring? – but there are some useful indicators to keep tabs on. We're not exactly experts on investing, but we do know cars. As such, we've decided to take our non-expertise on one hand, combine it in the other with our knowledge of all things automotive, wad it up, throw it out and ask for your forgiveness. Or something like that. I've challenged Senior Editor Seyth Miersma to choose a car he thinks will become a future collector's item that's not more than 10 years old, and for no more than $25,000. I've done the same, and we vigorously argued for and against each other's picks. I feel good about my choice, but I don't have the best track record in these contests (I've lost three times, won twice, but they've all been pretty close), so, while I'm not going to beg (please vote for me!), I do hope you find my argument convincing. But first, let's hear from Seyth: Miersma: Ten-years old or newer makes this challenging. At that age most vehicles feel like a plain old used car to me, few hit the "classic" button. But the Subaru WRX STI has always been a special car, and the 2005 cutoff year proves to be very attractive for the parameters of our contest. It's rare; with fewer than 5,000 STI models sold that model year. It's probably the best looking WRX STI ever sold in America; narrowly avoiding the dreadful "horse collar" front fascia. And it's got one of the more die-hard car-geek followings out there. For $25,000, you can also still find examples that have reasonable miles, are in good condition, and haven't all been molested by grown-up Initial D wannabes. With the street racers hacking up collectable examples every day, I like my odds for steep appreciation by way of conservation. I couldn't agree more. It really is difficult to predict what cars will catch the eye of collectors, and the WRX STI seems like a pretty good choice. But I think mine is even better, and I can't let him know that I'd love to park just such an STI in my very own garage. And so goes my argument: Korzeniewski: I like your choice as a driver, Seyth. I'm less convinced of its status as a sure-fire collectible.

Subaru BRZ gets updates, limited-edition Series.Blue model for 2015

Thu, 29 May 2014

The popular complaint about the Subaru BRZ is that its 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter-boxer engine is underpowered compared to other, modern sports coupes. Subaru isn't doing anything to address that for the 2015 model year BRZ, but the company does have some aesthetic upgrades ready for its rear-wheel-drive two-door and a limited-edition version with a more aggressive body.
The big news for the 2015 BRZ is the Series.Blue Special Edition (pictured above) that is limited to 1,000 units for the US with 500 of them in the brand's famous WR Blue Pearl and the other 500 in Crystal White Pearl. Mechanically, the special models are unchanged with the 2.0-liter boxer engine and a six-speed manual, but they wear an exclusive, black, STI-branded body kit that includes a new lower-lip front spoiler, rear spoiler, side sills and underbody panels. Subaru claims the whole setup increases front downforce and decreases the car's coefficient of drag from 0.28 to 0.27. To match the new kit, the limited-edition cars feature black, 17-inch wheels from STI with contrasting red brake calipers hiding behind them. The interior sees nearly as many changes as the outside with black and blue leather sport seats with blue stitching, and a similar motif for the steering wheel, shift boot, parking brake and kneepads. The illuminated engine start button gets an STI logo, as well. The Series.Blue arrives at dealers in July for $30,285, after the $795 destination charge.
The rest of the BRZ lineup isn't left out and has some minor upgrades of its own, with revised damper settings, stainless steel exhaust tips, a body-color shark fin antenna and a simulated carbon fiber dashboard panel - similar to the upgrades found on the 2015 Scion FR-S. Two new colors are available - Ice Silver Metallic and Crystal White Pearl. Prices are up $100 across the board for 2015. After destination, the Premium trim is $26,490; the Limited is $28,490; the Limited with an automatic transmission is $29,590. The 2015 models hit dealers this summer. Scroll down to read the full announcement.

Xcar rates AWD vs. FWD vs. RWD

Tue, Feb 24 2015

With snow and ice blanketing large swathes of the United States over the past few weeks, commuting hasn't been easy. Among some drivers, there's an ongoing debate about how much all-wheel drive really helps when it gets slippery and whether rear-drive is as bad in slick conditions as many people think. Xcar Films puts some of those beliefs to the test in its latest video by showing off three very different cars taking on a trio of low-grip challenges. Xcar's picks for the test include the fairly plebeian, all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza, the somewhat plush, rear-drive BMW 120d and the sporty, front-drive Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy. Things start out easy with a hydraulic plate forcing the back end out on a wet skid pad. From there, the tests get really interesting with a slalom on simulated ice, and the cars finish with a high-speed cornering challenge through a soaked turn. While an obvious winner emerges in the end, keep in mind this is hardly a scientific test of grip. For better accuracy, all three vehicles should be wearing identical tires, and the same driver should be behind the wheel of each one. Still, Xcar's examination is a fun chance to see how vehicles react when things get slick.
