2011 Outback model 2.5i Premium. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine makes 170 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) with paddle shifters and Rev-Matching Downshift Blipping Control, which sounds as fun as it is to use with the paddles. Like all Subaru models, it has Subaru's symmetrical all wheel drive, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, tire pressure monitoring, daytime running lights and airbags as standard equipment. Even air conditioning, auxiliary audio jack, power locks, mirrors and windows, cruise control, and eight cup holders are standard. Some of the features of the 2.5 Premium are a 10-way power driver's seat, 17-inch alloy wheels (with new tires), halogen fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel as standard equipment. Options included the CVT, an all-weather package with heated seats, mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer and Bluetooth connectivity.

2015 Subaru Legacy, Outback crash their way to IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ratings [w/video]
Wed, 20 Aug 2014The Subaru Legacy and Outback are the latest vehicles to be awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's most prestigious safety title, Top Safety Pick+.
As we've explained many times before, this only applies vehicles that can score an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating on the five IIHS crash tests and earn at least a "Basic" rating for crash prevention systems.
In the Legacy's case, it totally aced IIHS's testing, earning "Good" scores on the small overlap, front moderate overlap, side impact, roof crush and rear impact tests, while also bringing home the top "Superior" rating for its optional EyeSight system.

Subaru readying special-edition BRZ
Fri, 14 Feb 2014Another week coming to a close brings another rumor of a potential hotted-up version of the Subaru everyone wants to turbocharge, the BRZ.
A fresh rumor out of the Car and Driver offices makes the claim that a new, special-edition BRZ model will be offered up within the next few months. Word is that the new model will not get similar upgrades to the recent BRZ tS (seen above) for the Japanese market, meaning we're likely in for a cosmetic update instead of a functional one.
The looks of the tS could still be in the cards, however, meaning swapped-out lip spoiler, wheels and even STI badging might be on the way.
