Up for sale, 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited. This is the higher fuel-mileage engine and it is loaded with every option. It is my daily driver but I have a baby on the way so I need something with more back-seat/trunk space. Here are the key points on this car:
The Good:
This car is a 5 speed manual
It has every option except for the automatic transmission and gas guzzling powerful engine
The car has a current emissions certification from the state of Illinois
Big moon roof (its huge)
No rust
Very reliable. Ive owned the car for 2 years and I have never had a problem.
Clean Title
A/C works great
Power Windows
Power locks
Dual front and side airbags
Heated seats
Dual Zone automatic climate control
Gets 23-24 Mpg with a combination of city and highway (about 40%/60%)
Comes with Rubber floormats and trunk liner
In the last 6 months it has had both lower ball joints replaced, the drivers side axle replaced, alignment, tire rotation and the passenger side control arm replaced. These are wear items and need to be replaced every 100k miles or so
1 year ago I replaced all four brake rotors, all the brake pads and put new calipers on the front wheels as a precaution
It has excellent Hakkapelitta winter/snow/ice tires. They have very deep tread
The not so good:
174,456 miles. This will go up each day as I drive it every day
Drivers interior door panel is damaged. Not sure how, it was like that when I bought it. Has some ripples in it (see picture)
The 2 rear interior door panels have a small tear (see pictures)
Uses 1 qt of oil and 1 qt of coolant every 1000 miles or so. Just check it periodically
Has 175k miles worth of minor door scratches
The gas filler door is a little hard to release so I just leave it partly open sometimes
The passenger heated seat only works on the back, not the seat bottom
Note that I will be keeping the Hella lights on the roof of the car, as well as the bike racks. However, the factory roof rack and cross bars will stay with the car.
I am negotiable on the price but the Kelly Blue Book rates the car from $5497-$7272. I have priced it at the low end due to the door panel damage and paint scratches.
As you can see, I have included all the information I can think of for this car. I would be happy to show you the vehicle history report upon request. It comes up perfect with a note about a vehicle inspection notice that was resolved.

Subaru issues recall over cars that may start themselves
Fri, 08 Mar 2013Subaru has issued one of the strangest recalls we've come across in some time. As it turns out, certain Subaru models may randomly start their own engines. The issue is confined to select models equipped with an automatic or CVT and the company's optional Audiovox remote engine starter (RES) accessory. If the RES key fob is dropped, it could "randomly transmit an engine start request without pressing the button."
Vehicles affected include the 2010-2012 Legacy and Outback with an automatic or CVT, 2012-2013 Impreza with the CVT, and 2013 XV Crosstrek with CVT (shown), all equipped with the Audiovox RES accessory. Likewise, certain 2013 Legacy and Outbacks may have received replacement RES fobs that could be affected. All told, 47,419 vehicles are included in the recall.
Should one of these cars start on their own, Subaru says they will run up to 15 minutes, but the vehicle may also continue to start and stop until either the battery in the fob dies or the car runs out of fuel. Of course, if one of these cars is parked in an enclosed area, that means harmful gasses could build up, which could be dangerous if inhaled.
Subaru partners with Magellan for smartphone-based navigation
Wed, Jan 6 2016With tech in the air this week at the Consumer Electronics Show, Subaru announced that it named Magellan SmartGPS as its mapping partner in future Subaru vehicles – without putting an exact date on when that "future" will be. The appointment means that Magellan's smartphone-based cloud navigation, which works on both Apple iOS and Android, will port fully voice-guided navigation using constantly updated maps to the head unit in the car. Magellan already sells a standalone SmartGPS unit that you can buy from major retailers, and it can communicate with other wireless devices to find destinations and transfer directions. However, with the rise of smartphones and with major tech players becoming baked-in fixtures inside vehicles, the sales of portable navigation devices have gone into freefall - from 15.1 million units in 2008 to around 4.3 million units in 2019. The deal with Subaru helps Magellan continue to focus on its core strength. The caveat is that your car will need to have the Subaru Starlink system. It is included in some of the brand's vehicles, like the Impreza and the Crosstrek. On others it is a cost option - it's part of a $1,795 package on the Legacy, a $2,295 package on the Outback. The press release below can tell you more. Subaru Names Magellan Its Smartphone-based Cloud Navigation Partner Magellan SmartGPS Navigation to Power Future Subaru Vehicles Equipped with the SUBARU STARLINK Platform Powered by Clarion's Smart Access System Las Vegas, NV – January 4, 2016 – Magellan's SmartGPS navigation has been selected to be included with Subaru vehicles featuring the SUBARU STARLINK platform. The SUBARU STARLINK infotainment systems, available in Subaru vehicles, utilize Clarion's advanced Smart Access™ cloud connectivity platform to seamlessly sync and control cloud-based applications directly through the infotainment system's screen, providing immediate access to Magellan's SmartGPS navigation. Designed to support both Apple iOS and Android smartphones, the SUBARU STARLINK app brings continuously updated cloud applications to the vehicle's center stack display. Drivers can then access all STARLINK approved apps and services effortlessly, including Magellan's SmartGPS, allowing for safe access and display on the vehicle's touch panel. Magellan SmartGPS navigation will be available on future Subaru models.
6 best cars for $5,000
Sat, Aug 11 2018Looking for a great used car but only have a few thousand bucks to spend? Check out our 6 favorite used vehicles that you can get for around $5,000 or less. 1. 2004-2006 Subaru WRX The Subaru Impreza WRX offers a lot of what you might want in a vehicle. A 2L turbocharged engine gives 227 horsepower and it gets 27 mpg on the highway. 2. 2006-2015 Mazda5 The Mazda5 never got the sales it deserved. It was affordable and more maneuverable than most vehicles, but it never took off. It was based on the Mazda3, and felt like it as well... just a bigger version. If you're lucky, you'll be able to locate one with a manual transmission. 3. 1990-1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata A car that's praised for rewarding the driver. The shifter is sublime, and the controls are light and accurate. The 1.6-liter engine that makes 115 horsepower or a 1.8-liter that makes 128 horsepower are our preferred versions. 4. 2009-2013 Honda Fit Beside being cute, it's supremely practical and great in the city. It manages to be pretty entertaining to drive, and let's not forget it's a hatchback. 5. 1987-2006 Jeep Wrangler Yes, it's possible to get a well-loved Jeep Wrangler with about 100,000 miles on the odometer. In many ways, a Wrangler is perfect for the snowy winters with its unrivaled 4x4 capability. An SUV, convertible and icon, all in one? What more could you ask for? 6. 2002 Chevy Silverado Truck lovers, we have you covered. We love the Chevy Silverado with a 5.3-liter V8 engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It makes a great second car, especially if you already have a fuel efficient vehicle around the house. What would you buy for $5,000?
