Service department is sub-par. I took my Tacoma in for the first oil change today (@ 4500 miles on the odometer). I called ahead to verify that the service department wasn`t busy and told the assistant service manager that I was coming in for my first 5,000 mile oil change. After driving to the dealership I was told that the oil change wasn`t necessary until 10,000 miles because Toyota puts synthetic oil in Tacoma... view mores. Now why wasn`t I told this on the phone so I wouldn`t have to drive in? I was skeptical that Toyota would put synthetic oil in a Tacoma, so on the way home I called three separate dealership service departments (N. Charlotte, Concord, & Scott Clark) and each one told me that the Tacoma takes standard oil and it indeed does have the oil changed every 5000 miles, contrary to what Town and Country service department indicated. I contacted Town and Country`s service department manager who verified that they indeed made mistake, so they owned up to it after I caught their error. But a simple error like this doesn`t inspire confidence that they can fix more complicated issues. On a sidenote, you can tell if your vehicle takes synthetic or standard oil by the oiil fill cap. Standard oil will say 5w 30 on the oil cap. Synthetic will say 0w 20.
