July 14, 1989 Jerry Bawcum, along with sons Glen and Matt opened Toyota of Paris. With 9 models in their Toyota line, 11 employees and six service bays, Toyota of Paris was the first import dealership to arrive in Paris. Now, 23 years later, the dealership has seen many changes. Toyota of Paris now employees a staff of 45, offers a Quick-Lube Center, has 14 service bays and expanded the showroom by 7,000 square feet to. The Customer Service area has doubled in size, now offering wireless internet capability and a childrens play area and hot fresh cookies baked daily. Toyota of Paris added the new Scion line in 2005. Scion is a new car line of Toyota Motor Sales USA, created to suit the demands of an emerging culture of new car buyers. The Scion lineup consists of the xD with a 38 mile per gallon highway rating, the xB with a 35 mile per gallon rating and the sporty tC Coupe. Toyota of Paris is the only Toyota dealership in a five-state region to have received the Presidents Award every year. It is the highest honor Toyota gives to its dealerships based on excellent customer care in all areas of operation. In December of 2006, the Bawcum family began operations in the Mt. Pleasant area. Community Service is a state of mind that not only is embraced by the Bawcum Family, it has been embraced by the employees of Toyota of Paris as well. Every day of the week employees work with Meals on Wheels to deliver meals to homebound and elderly citizens in the Paris area. Every year the Bawcum Family host the annual Thanksgiving Dinner staffed by the Bawcum family and employees of Toyota of Paris. Held at First Christian Church in Paris, approximately 400 seniors and homebound citizens enjoy a full course Thanksgiving Dinner. Jerry Bawcum is most proud of and encourages the employees of Toyota of Paris to be involved in the community. The Childrens Advocacy Center, The Womens Shelter, Paris Blues Society, United Way, Kiwanis Pancake Days, and approximately over 60 homebound elderly in the community have also benefited from their generosity.
