Not good
I was referred to New Rome Towing by a family friend. I had a couple of things fixed on my car previously and the work was done at a reasonable price. That is until I had a leak in my coolant system. I took my car in on Friday morning asking them to look at where the leak was coming from. I also asked them to look at my emergency brake because it had not been acting right since they had replaced the shoes on my d... view morerums. I received a call from Suzie telling me it was my water pump and it would be aprox $380. I Ok?ˆ™d the work to be done. I was in class on Monday and missed a call from New Rome Towing. When I called back I spoke to a man who asked me if my brake light and my battery light had been on when I brought the car in. I told him that no lights had been on when I dropped my car off. He said they were trying to fix it and my car should be done soon. Well on Tuesday morning I called and spoke to a man who when I asked if I could talk to Suzy said she was not in and that I should call back later. I called back later and spoke to Suzy who said that my car was still being worked on and that she would call me when it was finished. I informed her that I needed my car in the morning and that I would pay for it that afternoon and pick it up later that night and if I could do it that way I would be very appreciative. She said she would call me when it was finished. Around 4:30 pm on Tuesday she called me and told me my car was ready. When I got there to pay the bill it was over $800!!! No one had told me about the increase in price and as to why it would be so high when I had spoken to Suzy or the man. Suzy looked at me and said ?ˆ?I knew you were going to flip out" They charged me for a brake adjustment a new wheel cylinder a water pump and an alternator! An Alternator you say? Yes! But Suzy made sure to show me that they had not charged me for labor for installing the alternator. To which I was very grateful. When I asked why they had to replace it she said my water pump had leaked on it and shorted it out. And that the wheel cylinder "fell off in pieces". I asked her why if the wheel cylinder was so bad why was it not mentioned when I had the shoes replaced on my drums? To which she replied "Wheel cylinders are not a part of the drums?ˆ? In all actuality the wheel cylinder is what pushes the shoes down on the drum to make the brake work. And I was told by a mechanic that had been working on cars for over 20 years that wheel cylinders do not just fall apart when you are taking them off. And with the alternator being shorted out by a leaking water pump he had never heard nor seen of it happening before. As I ran down the list of charges and the cost of the work he had me repeat the amount of the alternator. To which he replied "They may not have charged you for labor but they marked that alternator up 100%?ˆ? When I spoke to the Hyundai Dealership mechanic about the wheel cylinder and the alternator he told me the same thing. He also went into further explanation as to the placement of the water pump and the alternator to further illustrate the improbability of the water pump leaking and shorting out the alternator while driving. All I know for certain is that there were no lights on in my dash when I dropped off my car; I had had no trouble starting or operating my car other than the leak in the coolant system. The run around that I got and the fact that NO ONE told me about the alternator and the cost before I got there are just blatantly disrespectful and deceitful. When the family friend went and spoke to them about it they were told that when I was spoken to about the lights on my dash being illuminated that "a female Ok?ˆ™d the extra charges." That is an outright lie. It is unfortunate that these people work harder at covering up their mistakes than not making them.
