STAY AWAY!!! I brought my truck to "Cars" now Gerber to get repaired. A few days later I received a phone call asking me if I had an extra set of keys because they "lost" mine. Two days after that I received a call from Naperville Police saying my car was stolen and low and be hold the person who stole it had keys to get into it. Gerber`s insurance company doesn`t want to do take care of us and ne... view moreither do they. Please consider taking your car elsewhere as I would hate for anyone to have to go through what I have been through. A terrible experience.
took my car to cars collision center to have a known factory defect repaired which the manufacturer was required to pay for by court order. It was a known defect for certain models for a couple years. It was caused by an improper primer application at the factory and also defect paint or primer and cars with the defect were known in the industry as "peelers." The roof had to be re-painted because it was peeling ... view morebadly. The man that did the estimate said that they would definitely have to remove the windshield to do the job properly because the peeling came right up to the windshield seal. That made sense to me and, in fact, seemed obvious. Within a couple weeks of picking the car up, the roof started to rust badly where it met the windshield. (Cars Collision had re-painted the entire roof.) But I wasn`t worried because, not only did the guarantee say that I was 100% covered against rust and worksmanship defects for the life of the car, but the man who did the estimate also assured me that the roof would be covered for any defects for the life of the car including rust. But not only was the roof rusting badly (the new paint was actually bubbling up), but it was causing a leak where it met the windshield. It was leaking so badly, in fact, that it dripped through the headliner whenever it rained. I took the car back to Cars Collision and what happened then was outrageous. They claimed that they never removed the windshield even though they had told me that the windshield had to be removed to do the job properly. Furthermore, they said that rust wasn`t covered if it came from under the paint. Think about that! Rust always comes from under the paint. Paint itself doesn`t rust. In other words, their iron clad guarantee was nothing but a sham. I pointed out that there had never been any rusting at all on the roof (just paint peeling but the undercoat was still intact) and that it started rusting immediately after they painted the roof and that`s when the roof started leaking as well. They had stripped the roof to bare metal, primed it, and painted it and within weeks it was bubbling and peeling off and rust was forming. But to my amazement, they absolutely refused to make good on their guarantee. They were obnoxious and they insulted my intelligence and it was perfectly obvious that what they were doing to me was nothing new to them. They had their lines down so pat that it was if they had memorized them and had repeated them so many times before that the routine was boring to them. But I was not about to give up. The problem was elevated to some big-shot in the company who was even worse than the local folks. The local people said that HE would make the final decision and there was no recourse for me if he refused to honor their guarantee. Of course, he refused. They basically just told me that I was out of luck and too bad! I then informed them that I was going to file a complaint with the BBB and also file a suit in small claims court and those were no idle threats. I did file the complaint with the BBB and I was about to file a complaint in small claims court when Cars Collision received notice of the BBB complaint. They hedged and complained but, at that point, they fixed their poor work. But this time they couldn`t deny that they removed the windshield because, when I got the car back the 2nd time, there was a gaping hole that you could stick a pencil through where the lower-right hand side of the windshield met the body of the car. The seal wasn`t installed properly. It was so bad, in fact, that I noticed it when cold air howled though it on the way home. The gap was 3/8" to 1/2" wide! They then fixed it properly but they lost a future customer. I`m not sure which was worse - their terrible worksmanship or their rude and insulting behavior. Obviously, I cannot recommend Cars Collision to anyone.
