Aamco Escondido agrees to discount and backs out after work is done
I took my vehicle to Aamco Transmission at 2040 Auto Park Way, Escondido, CA 92029 to be fixed. I was dealing with the Customer Service Manager at the shop. The owner has declined to honor a 10% discount that his employee, the Customer Service Manager, had agreed to with me. My decision to have the work done there was based on getting this discount. I also have the original written estimate where the CSM signed t... view morehat my final invoice would include the VIP 10% discount. Vehicle was dropped off on 10/01/2010 to be diagnosed for smoke coming out of clutch area on a/c compressor. Work was completed on Monday 10/04/210. I was given an original written estimate that reflected $434.60 for labor because I provided my own parts (a/c compressor, orifice tube, receiver dryer and clutch). In original written estimate he agreed to a 10% discount signed by CSM. I also left a $250 dollar deposit because my wife was not going to be able to be there the next day to sign her credit card receipt because of work. The a/c compressor that I got turned out to be the wrong part because the lines go on the top part of the compressor and the one I got the lines went on the back. The CSM let me know by phone that I had gotten the wrong part and before he had given me the original written estimate. The CSM had said that if he got the compressor, my cost for the compressor would be $477. I told the CSM to go ahead and supply the $477 a/c compressor and he told me that he had to apologize but he had quoted me for a receiver dryer kit and not the compressor. The CSM told me that the compressor was $945 but that he would let me have it as his cost of $740. The CSM asked me if price was an issue and I said yes. I told the CSM that I would see if I could get the part somewhere else and ended that phone conversation. I called back and spoke to the CSM to inquire about financing and that is when he told me that he had a compressor for $540. I asked him what the difference was between the $740 and $540 and he said there was no difference and that he had gone to a different supplier. It was going to cost me $595 to get the part from the dealer because I had to buy the clutch separately, so I told the CSM to supply the part and do the work. I called the CSM to find out the exact amount that I owed after applying my discount and my $250 deposit and he told me that the balance was $669.66. He did mention that he would have to revise the work order again because he had given me the discount on the amount including tax and they normally only do not do that. The CSM said that the amount would be more like $680. I had gathered as much money as I could and came up with $630. I asked him if it was too much to ask if there could be another discount because I was $50 shy of the $680. He said that I was going over his pay grade and that he would have to ask the owner for approval on that. The CSM called me back and said that owner had declined the additional $50 off and also the 10% discount that the CSM had originally agreed to. So now the CSM was saying that the balance, instead of $680, was $936.26 which is a difference of $256. The original amount on the written estimate was $434.60 for labor only and $540 were added later for the a/c compressor that they provided. I was promised a 10% discount and had left a deposit of $250. After doing the math I came up with a balance of $674.39. The 10% discount was based on $974.60 and the tax was based on $540 at 8.75% tax for the part. I supplied some of the parts and they had agreed to do the 10% discount with me supplying some of the parts. Now the owner says that since I supplied my parts he is not going to honor the 10% discount.
