Keeping Rears in Gear Since 1981

Rear end work is unlike any other automotive repair. It is a process that requires specialized training, skill, and equipment. It also calls for unusual patience, precision, and finesse. Most shops don`t want to touch it. ?  To fill the need for reliable differential service and parts, we opened The Rear End Shop. Since 1981, The Rear End Shop has been Northern California`s leading expert in differential assembly, sales, and repair, serving over 50,000 customers since we opened.

HONEST!
5 star for Tony Owen! See him if you need service. He is the first service person I?ˆ™ve come across who was honest and genuinely looking to help me out and not rip me off. Here?ˆ™s my LONGGGG story. After a bad experience with express tire and getting multiple diagnoses for my problem, I decided to bring it to a dealership to get down to the real problem. I know people cringe when you say dealership because that mean... view more $$$, but it was necessary this time. The problem: Squealing serpentine belt. Express tire said it was due to a loosening belt and also informed me my oil pan was leaking. There diagnosis was to replace the oil pan (according to them it couldn?ˆ™t be repaired just replaced...BS!), serpentine belt and pulley. There quote: $400+ (89.99 belt, 189.99 pulley, 200 labor) to replace the pulley and belt! That weekend I got the pulley and belt for $24 and 30 minutes later the belt and pulley was replaced. It wasn?ˆ™t ""lose"" nor was it worn, but since it would need to be done anyways and the parts were cheap, why not? Few days later the squealing returned and I figured it was oil from, the pan getting onto the belt. The following weekend I was going to tackle the oil pan with my stepfather. After looking more closely, it looks like the leaking WASNT from the oil pan or oil filter. He suggested I take it to a dew places to get a proper diagnose. It was amazing that out of 8 places I called, 6 just gave me a blind quote of $700+ and 2, one being Honda of Escondido told me they couldn?ˆ™t quote me till they check it out and make sure. I decided to go straight to Honda since who else would be better at looking at a Honda then the people who work on them day in and day out. Tony was professional, friendly and the most importantly HONEST! He saved me probably $1000+ in unnecessary repairs from WRONG diagnoses by others shops. 2 hours later the Honda mechanic found it wasn?ˆ™t oil leaking, but power steering fluid! My powers steering pump was leaking bad. Tony?ˆ™s quote to repair it with genuine parts put a new serpentine belt (since it was covered in fluid) and clean up my engine was FAIR, but still $600 of which I didn?ˆ™t have. If I did, I would have said yes in a heartbeat. Fortunately my sister works for an auto parts company and my stepfather was a mechanic in his past life so we will be working on it this weekend for much less. When I thanked Tony, but declined the service, he didn?ˆ™t give a attitude lie most places do when you tell them no, and was still curious and friendly On the way to the cashier he gave me some more advice and I am VERY thankful and blessed to have gotten Tony when I called into Honda Escondido. I will definitely be bringing my car here from now on when I have car issues (hopefully not anytime soon). P.S Awesome waiting lounge with FREE Starbucks coffee/hot coco, water, popcorn and vending machines. The whole dealership is spotless and nicely decorated with comfortable seating arrangements and a BIG TV.

DO NOT buy a CAR from Honda Mazda of Escondido!
I purchased a CERTIFIED USED CAR from Honda of Escondido...they are crooks! Everything NOT COVERED in the 250 point inspection certified B.S., is what`s going wrong! First of all, me, my business partner and my father, who was a used car manager at a Honda dealership years ago, all viewed the car inside and out...there were NO chips or scratches. We purchased the vehicle but needed to pick up the vehicle the next day... view more due to it`s antenna missing which we requested they replace. We did not think about going over the vehicle again. A couple days later, I was walking a friend around the car showing him our new ride and found small but VERY noticeable paint repairs...a couple chips and scratches that had been covered with DIFFERENT COLORED PAINT! NOT ONLY would I have DEFINITELY seen these chips before without it, BUT the touch-up was done with different colored paint standing out significantly! It is a LIME GREEN CAR, the touch-up was a blue green! This is impossible to prove that they did this, however, I KNOW how meticulously I look at things and I know those chips AND different colored paint was not there before! Second of all, during the test drive, we were instructed to enter the freeway and immediately exit the freeway which prevented the vehicle from traveling more than 50 mph...a bit weird at first, but there was a little bit of traffic, so we didn`t argue the point! MISTAKE! After we took possession, and began driving the vehicle on the freeway, we discovered that at exactly 60 mph there becomes a whistling sound from the back of the vehicle...like a kettle of water whistling...LOUD. At 65 mph, this sound is so loud, you can barely talk and music must be turned up loud to tolerate driving! CROOKS! And Finally, as bad as I feel the above things are, I would have let them go if not for the fact that the CAR DIED! My partner went out after the close of our business during the last rain and tried to start the vehicle...no luck! I believe it is either the battery or the alternator, BOTH of which SHOULD HAVE BEEN TESTED since this is a CERTIFIED USED CAR! I called the dealership to get these things handled and I was first given the run around, having to call multiple times and when I eventually spoke with my sales girl Andrea, she was rude, accusing and uncaring! She got the sale and that was good enough for her. I will post more about this horrible dealership as it occurs!

3/19 New: well the car started dying again, so my wife (since our baby has been born) had time to have the car towed to the dealership in Mission Valley. The AAA drive told here that the battery was dead and that it was a bad battery. HE SAID, it would work as long as we did not plug things in the cigarette lighter, but there was a bad cell and it would get worse. So I spoke to service at Mission Valley as well as Escondido where they both ""say"" each used cars battery is tested prior to the vehicle being sold. Considering this problem occurred less than 1 week after we purchased, that tells me that either they are lying or someone is not doing their job!
