Reviews:

hack body shop
Mathews-Carlsen has not earned their good yelp rating. Many of the reviews on yelp for Mathews Carlsen are contrived. I placed a bad review on Yelp about Mathews-Carlsen body shop and it was deleted. I added another bad review and again it was deleted. After a little digging, I discovered that Mathews-Carlsen is a paying Yelp customer. That is right, Mathews-Carlsen pays Yelp for the advertizing. I then added a r... view moreeview accusing Yelp of deliberately deleting bad reviews placed for Mathews-Carlsen and was soon informed via email that my Yelp account had been deleted. I am not the only one that has had bad reviews for Mathews-Carlsen deleted and Mathews-Carlsen is a Hack!!

These guys are great. Period.
Having used Mathews-Carlsen several times over the last few years, I have found them to be professional, courteous, and want nothing more than to get the job done right. Let`s be honest, sometimes things go wrong. I called them on something I wasn`t happy with. They immediately said bring it back, were apologetic that they had overlooked something, and offered a ride or a rental car if I needed one. Things do go ... view morewrong sometimes. It`s all about how you handle it. There`s another review website where LOADS of excellent reviews are listed for these guys. Mathews-Carlsen will always get my business - however I hope I don`t need to use them again anytime soon!

A bad experience
Took it in and got the rear end done (re-paint the rear hatch, part of the roof, rear bumper cover and install new glass). Later that day noticed that the pigment of the paint was missing/fading out on the right side of the hatch. Not a little, but A LOT. Then had to haggle with them about the bad job they did (in addition, on the left side of the hatch, there were had obvious dull spots in the paint that were rough ... view moreto the touch). After spending about 15 minutes trying to politely point out obvious substandard work, they begrudginly said they would re-do it. Got the car back and the color was right, but I later found another unbuffed spot on the roof and that they had put my roof mounted Yakima bike carrier on completely misaligned. Then on a rainy morning driving to work I had to use the rear window wiper only to see if flailing randomly around. Turns out that they didn`t tighten down the wiper bolt properly and now the wiper shaft is stripped so the wiper still doesn`t work properly even after tightening. At this point, though, I`m afraid to go back only to have them mess up again. I also noticed a rattling in the hatch and a few months later I saw the trim panel for showing signs of pulling away from the hatch. Turns out that when reinstalling the trim they bent MOST of the retaining pins on the left side! Unfortunately, since I found out about the last item about a year later I don`t feel its worthwhile going to them to complain (and my prior experience gafter oing back to them within 2 days was bad enough).

Summary:

1. Paint job was awful (how does a body shop not mix/apply paint properly?), and the excuses they offered before begrudgingly re-doing their work were pathetic.
2. Their reconditioning the paint after application showed a complete lack of attention to detail that you would expect from a shop supposedly used to working on $50K+ cars.
3. Their reassembly of the car was not only unsatisfactory, but actually caused more damage.
