2004 Scion XB Custom Hot Rod
This is not your typical Scion XB, this is a completely custom built V8 powered, RWD, 450 HP Hot Rod monster of a Scion. A no expense spared transformation happened to this particular Scion XB with completely custom frame and structure fabrication by Advanced Automotive Concepts. This is NOT a Front Wheel Drive car, it has been customized and rebuilt with a tubbed rear end and rear wheel drive. This car is a real attention grabber wherever you go with it..and they will hear you coming. The V8 sounds like rolling thunder and has all the power to back it up. Engine and Transmission: This Scion has a completely rebuilt, blueprinted and stroked 383 V8 putting out 450HP. There is an 8.8" rear end with a 3.73 gear ratio. There was a 700R Transmission installed to handle all of the power. The engine bay is filled with chrome pieces and is as breathtaking as the rest of the car. The car has a custom fuel cell located under neath of the rear trunk area with a access panel hidden in the rear trunk. There is a massive fuel pump installed in the fuel cell. Interior With the exception of the gauges hidden in the center console cubby, this interior is pretty much directly as it came from the factory. Black cloth seats, steering wheel, factory radio, etc are all in place and functioning. Turn signals and lights all work. If you were just looking at the interior, you'd have no idea what this car had under the hood. Exterior: The car was completely gone over and repainted in Burnt Tangerine. It was painted by a reputable shop, Ed and Jim's here in Baltimore. The car looking absolutely brilliant in person. The pictures do not do this paint justice. It pops. The body is free of any dings and dents. It was completely gone over prior to paint. There is a tasteful body kit installed on the car that gives it a slightly more aggressive look. Headlights, turn signals and rear lights work. Underneath this car: This is where the custom fabrication took place. Advanced Automotive Concepts here in Baltimore went through and did a completely custom fabrication and engineering to convert this car from FWD to RWD. Look at the pictures to see everything. Custom engine cradle, custom strut towers, custom exhaust, custom steering rack, engine mounts, etc. Everything was custom fabricated to create a RWD Scion XB with a V8. This was built correctly and it shows in the photos and the drive. This car starts right up with a turn of the key. It runs and drives with no issue. Toyota GT86 convertible could debut in March
Tue, 27 Nov 2012The dates are lining up, now we wait to see how the badges align. Just before the Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ line-up was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, there was a report that Subaru was considering a convertible while Toyota wouldn't even comment on it. That got swapped around when earlier this year the chief engineer on Toyota's side said a convertible was coming, and then a Scion FR-S droptop was confirmed for early 2014.
Autocar now reports that the Toyota GT 86 convertible will make its first appearance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March. In a car whose specs like weight, packaging, horsepower and center of gravity were all tightly controlled to get the most from the least, the changes necessitated by chopping the roof could make this a very different car. It's said to employ a fabric roof to keep a "small" weight gain check, and the suspension will be softened to work more harmoniously with the decreased body stiffness. And somewhere in all that the back seat and trunk space will need to take a hit.
In other news, Autocar says the hi-po GT 86 with some kind of capacitor system instead of batteries is being worked on for 2015.
Scion exec admits brand has too many dealerships, may contract network
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Despite being conceived by corporate giant Toyota, Scion painstakingly built its reputation on being something of an offbeat, youth-minded brand, working hard to establish individualist, almost hipster-like credentials. So it comes as something of a surprise to hear WardsAuto report that Scion has a whopping 1,000 dealers across America - just 200 fewer than Toyota itself. This, despite a much smaller product portfolio and a sliver of the sales volume.
All those factors may explain why Bill Fay, US group vice president for Toyota, is admitting to the industry publication that its dealer network "might actually go down a little bit." As it stands, the volume end of the equation is probably an even bigger incentive - Scion's sales are way down from the salad days of the mid-2000s, when the brand had fewer models but sold more of them. With the (then) white-hot xB and tC models, Scion shifted 173,034 units in 2006, while Ward's notes the marque's 2013 sales are only at 41,261 units through July. In the story, AutoPacific analyst Dave Sullivan observes that other low-volume brands have far fewer dealer points, noting that Mini has just 115 dealer points and Infiniti has 200. By Sullivan's estimate, he would expect to see 350-500 Scion stores based on its sales figures.
Dealer question aside, the bigger issue is where the brand goes from here, and Fay admits Toyota is studying a number of different strategies, including possibly going "small-premium." Nothing is finalized, though according to Ward's, Fay discounts the idea that the FR-S - the brand's sales bright spot - will drive the brand to consider a more driver-oriented lineup.

Let me tell you about a man named Larry. Larry works for a company called STI Fleet Services, one of a few companies that are responsible for the cleaning, prepping, maintaining, scheduling, delivering and picking up of the cars we test on a weekly basis, not to mention a whole slew of other duties. STI and its competitors are the silent heroes of this whole automotive journalism biz. Larry is one of the guys responsible for a lot of the grunt work - he's been delivering cars to me for nearly seven years now, and because of that, we've developed a bit of a rapport. Now that I think about it, my history with Larry goes back farther than several of my friendships, as well as every romantic relationship I've ever had... combined.
With that much history behind us, Larry knows my taste in cars pretty well. And even though he doesn't voice his own opinions about what's being delivered to me, Larry silently knows when he's about to hand me keys to something truly special. When Larry arrived at my door with a bright red 2013 Scion FR-S, I tried to play it cool. But Larry knows me better than that.
