2000 Saturn SL2, Green/Black, 161K miles, clear title. I bought this car 4 years ago with 71K miles and for the past 3.5 years or so it has been my primary commute car. Within the past year I have leased two brand new cars, so it is time to let this one go. I will try to describe to the best of my ability the condition of this car:
The body is clean and straight, with no major dents...however, there are quite a few scratches here and there, never really tried to buff them out. There is also some yellow paint streaks on the left front bumper from me brushing up against a freshly painted post at the car wash about a year ago. Most of it has faded with car washes, and the rest could most likely be buffed out if you desire. All the glass is free of cracks and rock chips.
The interior is in very good condition...the seats, door panels, and headliner are all intact with no rips or tears. There is quite a bit of dog hair that covers the back seat, as my Golden Retriever would ride back there on trips to the Vet and other places. I am in the process of trying to remove as much of it as I can via lint rollers and duct tape, just be aware that there may still be some back there that I am unable to get out.
Tires are in good shape, probably another 15K-20K on them left...brakes are good, fronts were replaced at around 120K, back brakes still have plenty of life on them.
As far as electronics go, other than the "auto-down" feature for the driver's side power window, everything works great...the power windows, the power door locks, the air conditioner, the cruise control, the rear window defogger, the windshield wipers, the power mirrors all work and have never given me any problems. Both high and low beams are functional, as are the brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, and the back-window brake light.
The engine runs great and still gets 30-35 mpg, however like most Saturns, it burns oil...about a quart every 1500 miles. I would always check the oil level weekly and top off as needed. The transmission still shifts smooth and has never given me any trouble, and the fluid is still bright red and has no burned smell.
The car will need a few things...first, the muffler bracket has broken and needs to be replaced...the muffler rattles pretty good at idle, but once underway it does not. Second, there is a noise coming from the left front...I suspect that the wheel bearing will need to be replaced soon, but I am not a mechanic and you may find it could be something else. Lastly, at the last oil change, the service department was not able to remove the drain plug...it would just spin and not come out. It is not leaking, but I was told that the only solution is to replace the oil pan. I was quoted an outrageous price from the dealer for a replacement but the part is only $40-$50 online so I have no idea where the outrageous quote came from. As I said earlier, I am not a mechanic so I don't know how involved it is to replace an oil pan on this engine.
I am asking $1500, but feel free to make me an offer...just know that I'm not going to give the car away for nothing. I would like a $250 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours and the remainder in cash within 2 weeks. Will not ship, but am willing to pick you up at the airport in Grand Rapids if you desire to fly in.
Thanks for looking at my Saturn, please feel free to contact me with any questions as I'm sure I haven't covered everything.

GM calling in 56k Saturn Aura sedans over shift cables
Thu, 08 May 2014General Motors may have made a few mistakes when it came to the whole ignition-switch debacle, and it will likely be dealing with the consequences for some time to come. But you have to hand it to Mary Barra and her team, because they're determined to clean house and avoid the same mistakes. That's why the biggest of the Big Three automakers in Detroit has been issuing recalls left, right and Renaissance Center. Aside from those vehicles fitted with the faulty ignition switches, GM has recalled over 50,000 Cadillac SRXs, another 50 heavy-duty pickups and some 51,000 full-size crossovers. There are bound to be more to come, and now it's issued another 50k-unit recall over faulty shift cables in the transmission.
The recall affects 2007 and 2008 Saturn Auras fitted with the four-speed automatic transmission manufactured between April 24, 2006, and October 31, 2007. The recall doesn't affect models equipped with the six-speed automatic, or for that matter any of the Aura's Epsilon platform-mates like the Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6, Opel Signum and Vectra, Saab 9-3 or - carrying over from Fiat's aborted partnership with GM - the Fiat Croma, although many of those models used the same 4T40 transmission employed in the Aura.
In the affected vehicles, the shift cable might fracture while in motion, preventing the transmission from shifting into Park or the ignition from switching off, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration figures could lead to the car rolling away. Hence the recall of 56,214 units in the United States, owners of which can expect to hear from their dealership in due course to have the necessary components replaced.
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
Junkyard Gem: 2007 Saturn Sky
Sat, Jun 26 2021The Pontiac Division didn't have long to live when the Solstice first appeared in 2005 as a 2006 model, and Saturn's head was inching toward the chopping block at about the same rate. Still, optimism reigned — at least, it did until the global economy fell apart — and so Saturn Dealers got a rebadged version of the Solstice to sell: the Sky. Available for just the 2007 through 2010 model years, slightly more than 34,000 Skies rolled out of showrooms before the doors were nailed shut. Here's one of those rare cars, found in a Denver-area self-service yard a few weeks ago. I've found a handful of discarded Solstices in car graveyards during the past few years, mostly with crash damage. This Sky endured a medium-hard impact in the right front corner, which sent it to this place. The 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter Ecotec still resides under the battered hood. The Sky Redline version had a turbocharged engine rated at 260 horses; we can assume that such an engine would be yanked and purchased by the first junkyard shopper that realized what it was. The base transmission in the Sky was an Aisin five-speed manual, but this car has the optional five-speed automatic. The Sky had its own nose and some different badging, but otherwise didn't differ much from the Solstice. For the South Korean market, the Sky got Daewoo G2X badges and was advertised as the ideal vehicle for high-speed chases through Seoul traffic. The same car went to Europe as the Opel GT. Sadly, GM ran out of money to make right-hand-drive Skies, so we never got to witness Holden or Vauxhall versions. Here's Bob Lutz describing the new Sky. Lutz really hated car names molded into plastic bumper covers, so he takes great care here to describe the genuine glued-on emblems. Related Video:
