This is a solid Saab 96 with a V4 - 4-stroke engine, 4-speed manual on the column. It's a lot of fun to drive and gets looks wherever you go.

Condition:
Runs and drives well. Suspension is tight and solid. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner and has less than 5,000 miles on it. Transmission and clutch work well. Brakes need work - left front caliper was dragging and wore down pad. Will need new caliper and rotor. Other 3 brakes seem fine. Since I've had it I've replaced the front muffler, clutch hydraulic line, cap and rotor, plugs and cables, some cooling hoses and a few gas lines as well as many trim parts.
Interior is average, front seats are torn in places and rear seat has tears where the sun baked on it for years on the top of the backrest. Someone left a tire on the back seat for a long time and it left a mark.
Oil pressure light doesn't work.
There were a few small rust holes in the floor in the corners. I had them welded properly and sealed. There is no other rot or serious rust that I know of.
Heat and fan work, but temperature cable is stuck on hot.
Ignition is not original and doesn't fit in the column - it hangs down below. I have a whole new set of locks and ignition with keys ready to be installed.
The body is rough in places, but overall mostly surface issues. Needs to be cleaned up and repainted.
Front bumper is slightly bent in the middle.
All lights work except for the reversing lights.

Spyker to appeal dismissal of Saab lawsuit against GM

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

It seems as if Spyker CEO Victor Muller has made a decision on whether or not to pursue a legal battle between his company and General Motors. Spyker has announced it will appeal a US District Court decision to throw out the company's lawsuit against GM. As you may recall, on June 10 Judge Gershwin Drain ruled tht GM had a right to approve or disapprove Spyker's sale of Saab to Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile. Spyker sued GM for some $3 billion, claiming that the American automaker had forced Saab into bankruptcy by stopping Spyker from transferring intellectual property to its Chinese partner.
Spyker has said only that it plans to appeal the decision. Until now, the company has been silent about the ruling. GM, meanwhile, has said it is pleased with the original outcome. You can read the quick Spyker press release below for more information.

New owners still struggling to secure rights to use Saab name

Wed, 27 Jun 2012

Not to state the obvious, but if you're going to buy an automaker, it's probably advisable to secure rights to use the name.
That's what the new owners of Saab are trying to work out after buying the iconic Swedish automaker earlier this month, Automotive News reports.
National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the Chinese-Japanese conglomerate, acquired the company's physical assets, including its factory in Trollhättan, but didn't get rights to use the Saab name and logo. Truckmaker Scania and defense company Saab AB maintain the name and logo rights, and will need to sign off on NEVS using it, according to the publication. The parties are in discussions.

Former Saab chairman Muller faces summons in tax inquiry

Thu, 23 May 2013

Former Saab Chairman Victor Muller may be called in for questioning as part of an official inquiry into suspected tax evasion by three of the automaker's former executives. A prosecutor has officially named former CEO Jan-Ake Jonsson and two other executives in the investigation, and official court documents say that Muller will be called in by the Financial Crimes Unit. According to Reuters, prosecutors are currently looking into allegations that the executives worked to dodge taxes between 2010 and 2011, when the automaker finally went into bankruptcy.
The Truth About Cars reports the investigation may center around the $540,000 paid as consulting fees to Latin America Tug Holding NV, a company Muller owns. It's possible that the Swedish authorities believe the Saab executives were using the tug boat company as a tax haven, and that the automaker should have paid taxes and social security contributions on the money. Muller has not been charged.
Meanwhile, Muller is defending his earnings in a new interview with Automotive News. Having come under fire for his $773,000 salary at Saab, the Spyker CEO said his pay was commensurate with an executive running a company with 4,000 employees.
