- Unique, original looking 8v 900 Turbo for sale. SPG's are always for sale, but this one is intentionally stock. This car has been repainted, re-upholstered, and has new brakes and exhaust. It looks amazing and runs and drives good too.
- Problems I'm aware of include:
- It has AC but does not currently work, but could be easily fixed.
- The manual sunroof is stuck shut. It too could be fixed but will probably require removing the headliner, so I have not done it since the headliner is so nice and the roof doesn't leak.
- There is a small rust spot starting to bubble up on the sunroof, but is the only rust spot on the car that I am aware of.
- There are a couple electrical gremlins that are hard to explain here, but it is an '83 Saab after-all. I'll be happy to go over this with the buyer, but it's nothing that will keep you from enjoying this car.
- I have the badges for the rear hatch, but haven't installed them yet and will be included in the sale. I also have a set of side rub strips but did not re-install since they were old and did not feel they'd look good with the new paint. I can include these if desired.
- As mentioned, the paint is new in the last couple years. I didn't have the paintwork done, but it looks pretty nice. There were some rust spots on the hood that I fixed last summer and had the hood professionally resprayed to match the car and it looks great.
- Interior was re-done by previous owner and as you'll see in the photos really sets this car off. Also includes vintage Coco Mats.
- Dash does have a cap on it to fix the common Saab issue of cracked dashes.
- The stereo speakers all work but are really cheap units, so I have acquired new speakers. They aren't quite installed yet, but will be included in the sale. Has an aftermarket but period correct Pioneer tape deck.
- All brake parts were replaced or serviced within the last year and are all tip-top.
- New exhaust installed within the last year.
- New Interstate battery
- Tires are in good shape
- New valve cover gasket just installed as it was leaking a bit before.
- I have a set of Ronal minilites in silver that I could include with sale
- Car was at this past year's national Saab convention in Iowa City.

What would you drive in 1985?
Wed, May 6 2020Bereft of live baseball games to watch, I've turned to the good ship YouTube to watch classic games. While watching the 1985 American League Championship Series last night, several of the broadcast's commercials made its way into the original VHS recording, including those for cars. "Only 8.8% financing on a 1985 Ford Tempo!" What a deal! That got me thinking: what would I drive in 1985? It sure wouldn't be a Tempo. Or an IROC-Z, for that matter, despite what my Photoshopped 1980s self would indicate in the picture above. I posed this question to my fellow Autobloggists. Only one could actually drive back then, I was only 2 and a few editors weren't even close to being born. Here are our choices, which were simply made with the edict of "Come on, man, be realistic." West Coast Editor James Riswick: OK, I started this, I'll go first. I like coupes today, so I'm pretty sure I'd drive one back then. I definitely don't see myself driving some badge-engineered GM thing from 1985, and although a Honda Prelude has a certain appeal, I must admit that something European would likely be in order. A BMW maybe? No, I'm too much a contrarian for that. The answer is therefore a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo 3-Door, which is not only a coupe but a hatchback, too. If I could scrounge up enough Reagan-era bucks for the ultra-cool SPG model, that would be rad. The 900 Turbo pictured, which was for auction on Bring a Trailer a few years ago, came with plum-colored Bokhara Red, and you're damn sure I would've had me one of those. Nevermind 1985, I'd probably drive this thing today. Associate Editor Byron Hurd: I'm going to go with the 1985.5 Ford Mustang SVO, AKA the turbocharged Fox Body that everybody remembers but nobody drives. The mid-year update to the SVO bumped the power up from 175 ponies (yeah, yeah) to 205, making it almost as powerful (on paper, anyway) as the V8-powered GT models offered in the same time frame. I chose this particular car because it's a bit of a time capsule and, simultaneously, a reminder that all things are cyclical. Here we are, 35 years later, and 2.3-liter turbocharged Mustangs are a thing again. Who would have guessed?
Spyker files $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors over Saab's demise
Mon, 06 Aug 2012"Smack." That's the sound of Spyker's process server dropping a big ol' pile of legal documents on the doorstep of The Renaissance Center, home of General Motors - or wherever GM's attorneys live during business hours. Contained therein is a Complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and demanding a jury trial, that seeks $3 billion in damages due to "the unlawful actions GM took to avoid competition with Saab Automobile in the Chinese market." Spyker accuses GM of "tortiously interfering" with Saab's business relationship with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile (Youngman), actions that Spyker CEO Victor Muller (above) said "deliberately drove Saab Automobile into bankruptcy."
(From Wikipedia: "Tortious interference, also known as intentional interference with contractual relations, in the common law of torts, occurs when a person intentionally damages the plaintiff's contractual or other business relationships.")
The interference in question specifically refers to the very last potential deal, called the Framework Agreement, that Spyker worked out with Youngman. With lots of GM engineering embedded into the 9-4X and 9-5, The General had the right to approve any Saab partnership that would involve the transfer of GM intellectual property. Spyker had been rebuffed over every previous deal with a Chinese firm, including two bids by Youngman, due to GM concerns over its IP getting into Chinese hands and having to face Chinese-market competitors using its technology. The Complaint alleges that the Framework Agreement would have put a firewall around all GM IP - Youngman would only work on Saab's Phoenix platform, said to be just about free of GM tech, and would have no access to 9-3, 9-4X or 9-5 technology until after Saab ceased all ties to GM.
Super sleeper Saab 900 does 174 mph in the standing mile
Sun, 14 Apr 2013Somewhere behind Hennessey setting a new top speed record at this year's Texas Mile with its camouflage Ford GT, a stock-looking 1996 Saab 900T pulled up to the line to see what it could do. The dealer showroom wheels wouldn't offer any indication that the 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood was getting help from a Garrett turbocharger, a tuned ECU and E85 gas to put out 465 horsepower at the front wheels.
Knowing that, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that at the other end of the mile the sky blue Swedish wonder was doing 174 miles per hour. The four-cylinder class at the Texas Mile has plenty such rockets, too, this Swede coming just behind a Dodge Neon that did 175.8 mph. You can watch the Saab do its thing in the video below.
