2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen - Turbocharged 5 Speed - Ultimate Sleeper on 2040-cars
Willow Street, Pennsylvania, United States
This is a rare 2001 Saab 9-3 VIGGEN w/ 5-speed manual transmission. This is NOT the mass produced 9-3 that's so common. This is the super car that was only manufactured for 4 years by Saab. If you are not familiar with this car, please do some research about what is being offered here. This car was designed and built for an exclusive high end market of 4 cylinder cars. Only 1251 were manufactured in 2001, and only 129 were imported to the USA that year. This car was over $40,000 new and a special training session was required for new buyers. Nothing was spared in the design and build of this sports car. Every part of this car was specifically designed for high speed performance. Here are some of the performance upgrades outlined by Saab: Saab 9-3 Viggen A high-powered version of the Saab 9-3 is the "Viggen" (English: Thunderbolt). It is named after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft. Production ended in 2002. It comes with a turbocharged 2.3 L engine, (B235R) giving 230 bhp (172 kW; 233 PS) on 1.4 bar (20 psi) of boost from its Mitsubishi TD04-HL15-5 turbocharger and 252 lb/ft torque. Acceleration from 0-60 mph can be reached in 6 seconds, coming in 1st in its class at 0-100 mph and 0-120 mph, with the top speed electronically limited to 160 mph.To provide and handle the high power and performance, the following elements were factory upgraded: Higher capacity intercooler Higher performance tuned ECU Larger flow-through exhaust system Heavy duty clutch and pressure plate Stiffened and lowered springs Firmer dampers Stronger CV joints and driveshafts As you can tell, this car is a complete performance package from the factory and does not require any additional add-ons, as is so typical with most upgraded 4 cylinder cars. Not only did Saab produce a great performance sports car, they also designed an amazing interior for safety, comfort and accessibility. This car is LOADED with every convenience and comfort appreciated by a driver and passengers. The drivers seat and controls were literally designed after the cockpit of a jet fighter. This car provides a wonderful driver experience with all controls fashioned for beauty as well as maximum driver function. This car was also built with ultimate safety in mind. It still ranks highest for safety even among today's standards with its side airbags. Here are some of its key features: Power locks and windows Leather interior Air conditioning - digitally programmable climate control Security Alarm Remote door locks Driver and passenger airbags Side airbags Programmable power seats Heated Seats Power Sun Roof On board computerized digital display including date, time, temp, distance until empty, average fuel mileage, average speed, and travel trip Traction Control System Headlight wipers All VIGGEN trim and markings And much more! This car was originally bought and maintained by the owner of a local Swedish motors dealer. It was meticulously maintained and garage kept. This car runs and handles like new, it is still like driving a $40,000 sports car. Immediate ignition, responsive acceleration, amazing handling. She sounds amazing and the huge turbo is music to the ears as she accelerates with a very distinct turbo blow off through the gears. Its almost a shame that this car came with a stereo and CD player. Everything on this car works great. The only aging items worth mentioning are the wear on the front seats, a small crack in the front spoiler and the gasket around the antenna (all pictured). It is inspected until 11/14. It was recently serviced at the local Swedish Motors Dealer including a full synthetic oil change. Also included are an entire set of 17" rims and low profile tires in great condition. Extra set of wheels and tires come with custom carriers. Clean carfax report done last year. Title in hand. You can own one of the fastest luxury sports cars in its class for a fraction of the price. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. Thank you. |

Son surprises mom with her dream car, a 1973 Saab 99
Wed, Aug 13 2014Often, it feels like the news is just a never-ending stream of one depressing headline after another. It can be so liberating to see something positive and uplifting every once in a while. Just look at the ecstatic expression on this mother's face after receiving her dream car from her son. Mom has some seriously quirky taste too: she isn't after a muscle car or a two-seat droptop; instead, it's a 1973 Saab 99 EMS in a very '70s shade of copper at the top of her wish list. According to the video, it took her son about a year to track down this hunk of Swedish steel and save up the money to purchase it. Though, judging from his mom's reaction, it was worth every penny. She puts together what's going on with the Saab pretty quickly and immediately starts swearing at her son – out of love, of course. If you're feeling a little blue, consider this a much-needed pick-me-up. Watching the unbridled joy of someone getting something that they always wanted just feels wonderful.
One-off 1997 Saab 900 EX prototype headed to auction
Sat, Sep 23 2023An obscure and fascinating part of Saab's history is looking for a new home. The one-off 1997 900 EX was built in Norway to celebrate the company's 50th birthday, and while it was not approved for production it shows what a sporty, 900-derived coupe could have looked like. British auction house Bonhams explains that Per Ekstrom, an auto body expert and enthusiast according to The Drive, worked closely with Saab and Norwegian road authorities to create the 900 EX. His goal wasn't merely to create an eye-catching coupe that's pretty to look at but impossible to drive; he wanted the model to be street-legal and drive like a regular-production car. The auction description notes that the 900 EX was built by experienced professionals with Saab's blessing and that the process required between 3,000 and 4,000 hours of work. The end result is stunning. While the headlights and the grille create a strong visual link between the EX and the second-generation 900, which enthusiasts often refer to as the GM900, the roof line has been lowered by nearly three inches and the body has been considerably widened thanks in part to 9000 CS-sourced front and rear wheel arches. We're told that the rear window comes from a 900 Cabriolet's soft top and that the hatch is a modified panel sourced from a standard 900, though pictures of the back end haven't been released as of writing. Bonhams describes the build quality as "exceptional" and says that the panel gaps are better than those seen on many modern cars. It adds that the red and gray paint (which is a tribute to the combination often seen on the 900 SPG) is original and "in close to perfect condition."Â The interior is largely standard 900 fare. There's wood trim, leather upholstery, a three-spoke steering wheel, and the big knobs and buttons that characterized Saab models for decades. The brand designed the switchgear so that it could be easily operated by someone wearing gloves. The odometer displays about 141,600 kilometers, which represents approximately 88,000 miles, though Bonhams pegs the engine's mileage at around 154,000 kilometers (roughly 95,600 miles). Most of the miles were reportedly added before engine ended up in the EX. Speaking of the engine, power comes from a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder sourced from Saab's regular-production parts bin and tuned to send 220 horsepower to the front wheels. It's bolted to a five-speed manual transmission.
First test drive shows promise of Saab 9-3 EV
Tue, Sep 16 2014We can't read Swedish, so when it comes to a first-drive review of a Saab 9-3 electric-vehicle prototype, we'll trust Inside EVs' translation of a write-up from Swedish automotive publication Elbilen i Sverige. And it's a decent one. The write-up, that is. The translation, too, we hope. Taken to the test track, the Saab was found to be quieter than a Tesla Model S and had the stability commensurate for a car that tipped the scales at about 4,000 pounds. The sedan accelerated from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 10 seconds, though the goal is to bring that time down to 8.5 seconds. The prototype also uses a 37-kWh prototype battery made by China-based Kai Johan Jiang Annual National Modern Energy Holdings that should be good for over 180 miles (and there's room for a bigger pack in the car, apparently). The 9-3's electric motor will be able to deliver 200 horsepower but, for testing purposes, it was limited to about 140 horsepower. The overall impression was that the car is not yet ready for prime time, but has a lot of promise. When prototype becomes production is the real question, given the financial condition of Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). The company acquired the brand in 2012 and started making cars at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden last year, but production stopped in May because of cash-flow issues. Late last month, Swedish courts denied NEVS protection from its creditors, so the company is now looking to restructure.
