If you are a Saab fan, you know that the Viggen is a special performance version of the 9-3 produced in extremely limited quantities.(2500 for three years.)
I love this car but I've driven it for 10 years to work and back (25 mi. Hence the low mileage.) So I just wanted to freshen things up a little and get some new wheels on the road for myself. So my gain is your gain. I bought this Viggen from a 65 year old lady in Champagne IL. who had knee surgery and couldn't depress the clutch any more with 18,000 mi. on it in 2002. Since I bought it I've had a great time driving down Lake Shore Drive every weekday to work downtown (where it was garaged at work and at home). This car has 74000 mi. on it for an average of around 5600 mi. a year!
Modifications: I've put some small modifications on this car for the sake of handling and performance. I put GenuineSaab Teflon bushings in the front suspension which definitely reduce torque steer, a larger GenuineSaab, sway-bar in the back.
There is a performance ECU chip that makes the engine go from 230hp to 295hp. This Viggen is deceptively fast and great handling. If you've driven a stock Viggen you will really feel the difference between the two.You will love to drive this car. You will have new confidence in your driving with its available power. The performance chip is in the car now and also is an extra $250 above the price of the car (I paid over $900 in 2004 for it) and will be switched back to the original Viggen 230hp ECU chip if you don't want it in the car. (I'm pretty sure you won't want to switch it, I'm just giving you the option.) but i'll throw it in with the right offer. I also wired in a 3.5mm stereo plug for an iPhone or such device to listen to music or talk semi-hands-free into the premium stereo system. It has custom installed wires and connectors to hook up a subwoofer into the trunk that is linked into the stock premium stereo system. (I had 2 - 150watt 10" subs in the trunk, you can buy those from me also for $250 if you wish, I was going to put them in my new car this spring but if you want them...)
I have also changed the oil around 3000 miles or 3 months no matter what with Mobile 1 and factory Saab fliters. It has a set of 4 factory Saab 17" rims with 4 new Hankook summer tires driven for 1 summer. (Killer summer handling). I also have an extra set of 16" factory alloy Saab rims with new winter Hakapileta tires with one short winter season of driving on them for $400 extra.(winter tires)
If you've done the research you'll see that this car for $8495 with 74,000mi is a great price; especially compared with the stock version of the cars that are NOT performance chipped.

What brands have Saab owners defected to? Polk investigates
Sun, 02 Sep 2012When a brand goes belly-up, it's natural for analysts to wonder where that brand's consumers will turn. General Motors has mothballed more car brands the last decade than most other automakers' have in their entire portfolios, so "Where did [insert brand here] buyers go?" has been a common question asked of The General. According to reports, it didn't do so well at retaining Oldsmobile owners (who supposedly went to Hyundai), or Hummer and Saturn buyers, but did get some return love from Pontiac owners.
A consultant with Polk has turned the loyalty lens on Saab. The Polk Disposal Loyalty Methodology tracks owners selling vehicles within six months of buying a new one. In 2010 and 2011, Polk found that when Saab died, owners went right up the middle of the mainstream to Honda. It was close, though, with just 0.2 percent separating Honda from number two Volkswagen. Audi comes in third.
After that it's back to the masses with Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford trumping import luxury brands. And if you combine all of the General Motors brands that Saab owners have migrated to, GM more than doubles Honda with a 15.2-percent share, so all the love is not lost.
First test drive shows promise of Saab 9-3 EV
Tue, Sep 16 2014We can't read Swedish, so when it comes to a first-drive review of a Saab 9-3 electric-vehicle prototype, we'll trust Inside EVs' translation of a write-up from Swedish automotive publication Elbilen i Sverige. And it's a decent one. The write-up, that is. The translation, too, we hope. Taken to the test track, the Saab was found to be quieter than a Tesla Model S and had the stability commensurate for a car that tipped the scales at about 4,000 pounds. The sedan accelerated from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 10 seconds, though the goal is to bring that time down to 8.5 seconds. The prototype also uses a 37-kWh prototype battery made by China-based Kai Johan Jiang Annual National Modern Energy Holdings that should be good for over 180 miles (and there's room for a bigger pack in the car, apparently). The 9-3's electric motor will be able to deliver 200 horsepower but, for testing purposes, it was limited to about 140 horsepower. The overall impression was that the car is not yet ready for prime time, but has a lot of promise. When prototype becomes production is the real question, given the financial condition of Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). The company acquired the brand in 2012 and started making cars at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden last year, but production stopped in May because of cash-flow issues. Late last month, Swedish courts denied NEVS protection from its creditors, so the company is now looking to restructure.
Saab's never-was 9-3 gets a few better looks
Sat, 23 Mar 2013The recent glimpses we've been getting of the never-was Saab 9-3 Phoenix must be like rubbing salt on the wounds of all the Saab fans out there. If that's the case, diehard Saab enthusiasts might want to look away from this. SaabWorld has uncovered a handful of shots of what was to be the next-generation 9-3 hatchback, and boy does it look sharp.
Revealing a clearer look at what we previously saw in grainy images or as a full-scale model, these new pictures show what Jason Castriota had in mind for the new car. The front end is obviously inspired by Saab's Phoenix Concept, while the rear of the car pays homage to the Saab 900 hatchback.
We like the overall look. Let us know what you think in the Comments.
