Up for bid is a very rare find a 1987 Rolls- Royce Silver- Spur finished in Acrylic White which a senior Peninsula couple first took delivery of at Martin Swig's Autobritania in San Francisco on 12/31/86. The MSPR on this car 27 years ago was $121,000 and from 1980 to 1989 only 6238 of these hand built motorcars were built In the late 1980's this 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur was the ultimate in motoring luxury and excess. Bigger than just about anything else on the road and powered by Rolls' superlative V8 it was the last of hand built icons from Crewe Chesire England that built the automotive industry in the early years. The special long-wheelbase Silver Spur was the top of the line what is unquestionably the top of the line automobile manufacture. Stretching nearly 20 feet long it's understated yet imposing. Fit and finish are of course exemplary despite it being 27 years old and nothing in the automotive world feels like one of these big heavily insulated doors snapping closed. All automotive paint is shiny but the deep hand rubbed finish on this one is something else entirely as if it was conjured out of thin air right onto the surface. This automobile show's little sign of age and for a car that originally cost the equivalent of a quarter million bucks you definitely got your money's worth on the paint job. Then there's the chrome which is deep and rich that it almost feels cold to the touch and nothing clears traffic like that big Rolls-Royce grille and Sprit of Estsy hood ornament. "Impressive" isn't an impressive enough word for what this car is . You know where a lot of the money went when you climb inside. The seats feel like nothing you've experienced at once soft and supportive and wrapped in fragrant leather hides that were bred for royalty. There's a bit of wear on the driver's seat but the rest of the buttery-soft leather is still fit for show. Dark Wilton Wool carpets are insanely plush and yes that's real wood on the dash and door panels hand crafted by a guy who's been doing it his entire life. It received all the proper accoutrements for the late 80's including A/C power windows and locks and finger tip-light power steering. And as a long-wheelbase model rear seat space rivals a New York apartment complete with foot rest and drop down tray tables. The big 6.75 liter V8 pulls like a steam locomotive and delivers awesome smoothness. Bosch fuel injection makes it reliable too. GM supplied the TH400 3-speed automatic gearbox and the full independent suspension rides like a hovercraft over broken pavement. Even the 4 wheel disc brakes are race car sized and deliver impressive performance that's never abrupt. For the price of a pre owned Kia Optima you could be driving this incredible Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce debuts super limited Ghost Mysore edition
Fri, Feb 20 2015Rolls-Royce is celebrating the history of India with its latest, extremely limited edition of the Ghost Extended Wheelbase called the Mysore Collection. Just three of these specially upholstered versions are being made. These Ghosts are dedicated to Mysore, India, and to the Tipu Sultan there in the 18th century. They receive a two-tone blue and silver livery with a pinstripe featuring a stylized peacock running down the side. For the interior, they feature light-colored wood, white leather and blue carpets. However, the most obvious change for this limited edition is the inclusion of a tiger on each headrest. Rolls did make one rather odd decision for this commemoration of India. According to the luxury brand's Facebook post about them, the three special Ghosts are only for sale in Abu Dhabi. Although, the brand says, "In Arabic, Mysore also refers to wealth and power." Rolls-Royce Bespoke Ghost Mysore Collection 'In this world I would rather live two days like a tiger, than two hundred years like a sheep.' Tipu Sultan - 'The Tiger of Mysore.' Tipu Sultan was the ruler of 18th century Mysore in India. In Arabic, Mysore also refers to wealth and power. The Bespoke Ghost Mysore Collection takes inspiration from this, and each of these extended wheelbase models are adorned with symbols of success. Ghost Mysore will be available exclusively in Abu Dhabi. Only three have been created. 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year entries announced
Wed, Jul 6 2016Over 40 vehicles will compete for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards. If that name looks a little strange, it's because the competition added a third category. In years past, pickup trucks, crossovers, SUVs, commercial vans, and minivans competed for the same award. That's why there were occasionally weird comparisons, like last year's competition between the Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan XD. The new format separates pickups and commercial vans into the truck contest and CUVs, SUVs, and minivans into the utility competition. A complete list of eligible vehicles is below, but here are a few highlights. For one, the entire list of entries has a luxurious lean. Of the 43 vehicles, nearly half of them are from premium brands. There are two eligible Bentleys – the Bentayga and Mulsanne – the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-, E-, and S-Class Maybach. The performance ranks are lofty, too, with the Audi R8, Acura NSX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes SL- and SLC-Class, Porsche 718, and F-150 Raptor. The mainstream entries are just as comprehensive. From the Chrysler Pacifica to the Chevrolet Cruze to the Fiat 124 Spider to the Mitsubishi Mirage, NACTOY has covered an enormous price range with this year's contestants. Of course, these are only the eligible vehicles. They'll need to run through three rounds of judging, starting in September at NACTOY's traditional Hell, MI, test drive. The Canadian and American journalists involved in the judging will announce this year's nine finalists – three in each category – on December 6.
