THIS IS A VERY LOW MILEAGE, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 1969 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SHADOW.  WITH ONLY 44,785 ORIGINAL WELL MAINTAINED AND CARED FOR MILES, THIS EXAMPLE IS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION AND DRIVES EXCEPTIONALLY WELL!

THE SILVER SHADOW WAS INTRODUCED IN OCTOBER OF 1965 AT THE PARIS AUTO SHOW AND IT WAS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MODEL EVER PRODUCED BY ROLLS ROYCE!  IT TOOK 11 YEARS TO CREATE AND INCLUDED MANY TECHNICAL ADVANCES OVER ITS PREDECESSORS.

THE STYLING WAS A PRODUCT OF CREWE’S IN-HOUSE STYLING DEPARTMENT AND IS RECOGNIZED TODAY AS A SUPERIOR PERIOD DESIGN!  THIS EXAMPLE INCLUDES AM/FM/CD PLAYER, AIR CONDITIONING, POWER LEATHER INTERIOR, POWER SEATS, POWER STEERING, POWER ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, POWER WINDOWS, AND POWER DOOR LOCKS.

THIS LOW MILEAGE SILVER SHADOW IS A TRUE SURVIVOR OF THE LAST OF THE HAND BUILT ROLLS ROYCE’S!

THE CURRENT COLLECTOR OWNER OF THIS SILVER SHADOW PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE JOHN ROSE ESTATE IN JULY 2004.  AT THE TIME IT HAD ONLY 42,959 MILES.  THE CAR WAS PLACED IN HIS COLLECTION OF FINE AUTOMOBILES, AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN ONLY 1,826 MILES SINCE.  IT HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY MAINTAINED, DURING WHICH TIME THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH AND THE INTERIOR WOOD REFINISHED TO PERFECTION!

THIS ROLLS WAS JUST COMPLETELY CHECKED OUT BY AN EXPERT MECHANIC AND IS READY TO BE DRIVEN AND ENJOYED BY ITS NEW OWNER.

 EXTERIOR

THIS SILVER SHADOW HAS HAD ONE REPAINT IN ITS ORIGINAL WHITE COLOR.  THE MICHELIN SYMMETRY WHITE WALL TIRES ARE IN LIKE NEW CONDITION.

THE CHROME BUMPERS, CHROME WINDOW TRIM, GRILLE, ALL OTHER EXTERIOR CHROME, STAINLESS TRIM, AND GLASS ALL LOOK GREAT!

THIS IS A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF A BEAUTIFUL 1969 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SHADOW!

INTERIOR

WHEN YOU SIT DOWN INSIDE THIS SILVER SHADOW, IT’S LIKE BEING IN A TIME CAPSULE FROM 1969.  THE DASH, INSTRUMENTS AND ESPECIALLY THE AMAZINGLY WELL RESTORED WOOD ALL LOOK NEW!  THIS SILVER SHADOW IS FITTED WITH AN UPGRADED AM/FM/CD PLAYER.  THE ORIGINAL FACTORY RADIO IS INCLUDED WITH THE CAR.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

MUCH OF THIS ROLLS ROYCE IS IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL “SURVIVOR” CONDITION.  THAT IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR THE ENGINE BAY.  THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT APPEARS AS ONE WOULD EXPECT FOR A VEHICLE WITH 44,000 MILES.  THIS IS A PRIVATE PARTY SALE AND NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO ‘DETAIL’ THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.  MANY BUYERS PREFER TO SEE IT AS IT WAS, AND NOT AFTER SOME DEALER MADE IT LOOK BETTER BY SPRAYING SOME SHINNY STUFF ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND OTHER COMPONENTS!

TRUNK

LIKE MUCH OF THE REST OF THIS SILVER SHADOW, THE TRUNK IS IN CLEAN “SURVIVOR” CONDITION!

MECHANICALS

THIS TOTALLY STOCK ORIGINAL 1969 ROLLS ROYCE IS POWERED BY ITS ORIGINAL 6.23 LITER V8 AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.  THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN GONE THOUGH COMPLETELY.  IN RECENT YEARS, MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS HAVE BEEN SPENT TO ENSURE THAT EVERYTHING ON THIS ROLLS ROYCE OPERATES PROPERLY AND THAT IT IS A RELIABLE DRIVER!  EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND ALL HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OPERATE AS THEY SHOULD.

    THE 1969 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW

The Silver Shadow was introduced in October of 1965 at the Paris Auto Show and was Rolls-Royce's most successful model ever produced.  It took 11 years to come to fruition and included many technical refinements.  Under the code name Tibet, this model was the first Rolls-Royce to use monocoque or unitary construction.

The Silver Shadow was a huge technical leap forward from its predecessors. The car had every luxury option possible at the time.  Gear change, windows, seat adjustment, fuel filler cap, aerial, air conditioning and heating were all electrically operated.  A hydraulic system with pumps operated from the camshaft was also a considerable advance, as were power-operated disc brakes and self-leveling independent suspension.  It was more expensive than the Cloud III, but in technical terms the Silver Shadow was superior - easily the most superior model ever offered by Rolls-Royce up to that point. Early cars were powered by the 6.23 liter V8.

The Silver Shadow had a more modern appearance in comparison to its predecessor, the Silver Cloud.  The styling was a product of Crewe's in-house styling department, led by Jon P. Blatchley.  Unitary construction, the absence of a separate frame resulted in more room for passengers, and easier access for luggage.   It also featured much more practical updates that included disc brakes rather than drum brakes, and independent rear suspension with automatic level control instead of the previous live axle design of previous vehicles.  The standard Silver Shadow had a wheelbase that measured at 5.17 meters in length.  The Silver Shadow featured an impressive high-pressure hydraulic system that was licensed from Citro?n and showcased dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-leveling suspension.

During its first year of production, the Silver Shadow came at a base price of $19,700 and weighed 4,700 pounds.  Two door saloons were available from 1966 on, and a convertible was offered the following year.

OWNING THIS ROLLS ROYCE IS A VERY AFFORDABLE WAY TO GAIN ENTRY INTO A VERY ELITE GROUP OF ROLLS ROYCE OWNERS!  THIS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE THIS FABULOUS SILVER SHADOW AT A PRICE SO LOW YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT!  THERE’S NOTHING ELSE QUITE LIKE A ROLLS TO GIVE YOU YEARS OF DRIVING ENJOYMENT, IMMENSE PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP, AND ENSURE YOU ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT.  IT’S ALMOST GUARANTEED TO BE PARKED RIGHT UP FRONT NEARLY EVERYWHERE YOU GO!

Vehicle Condition:

THIS ORIGINAL 1969 ROLLS ROYCE IS A “SURVIVOR” IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  THIS CLASSIC VINTAGE LUXURY CAR RUNS AND DRIVES WONDERFULLY!

This Silver Shadow is 45 years old, so some signs of age are to be expected!  Let me first say that nearly everything appears to be in amazing unrestored original condition.  The exterior is beautiful! The chrome bumpers, chrome window trim, grille, all other exterior chrome, stainless trim and glass all look great! The exterior has had one original factory color repaint.  The paint does show some age and does have a few small touchups.  The tires look brand new.  The entire interior appears to be excellent factory original with the exception that the front seat cushions were recovered in leather.  There is some flaking of the dye on the driver’s seat back.  Everything is working, even the clock! The original factory radio has been replaced with a later AM/FM/CD unit, but the original radio does come with the car.  The carpet does show some dirt and does need to be shampooed.  Most everything under the hood, the interior, trunk and exterior appear to be stock original components that have been well maintained!

This Rolls Royce and its owner will get the respect they deserve virtually everywhere they go!

Rolls-Royce could go electric, if battery tech advances

Thu, Sep 17 2015

After toying with the idea a few year ago, Rolls-Royce isn't ready to completely give up on the idea of an electric model quite yet. Still, a hyper-luxurious EV from the opulent brand might not happen any time soon. "Suppose we find a battery technology that can offer ranges that are acceptable to our customers," brand boss Torsten Muller-Otvos said, according to Automotive News. "I can definitely imagine a fully electric Rolls-Royce." Muller-Otvos was clear that no final decision on an EV or even a much-rumored plug-in hybrid has been made yet. Rumors of an EV from the brand go back years. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Rolls-Royce showed that it wasn't completely against going electric. The 102EX concept (pictured above) was based on a Phantom but with two, 194-horsepower electric motors and a 71-kWh battery to power them. The company claimed the behemoth had an estimated range of 124 miles and could hit 60 miles per hour in under eight seconds. At least one journalist even got to drive it. However, the brand's wealthy customers reportedly weren't convinced, and the project was canned. In 2014, several reports began suggesting a plug-in hybrid Rolls under development that would answer concerns about range and charging time amongst the clientele. This powertrain could debut on the next-gen Phantom around 2017, and it's likely to be borrowed from parent company BMW.

2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost makes its debut with fresh styling and a real Rolls platform

Tue, Sep 1 2020

After just over 10 years, the Rolls-Royce Ghost is getting its second generation. This is an important moment, since the Ghost has been the luxury brand's bestseller. The result is a car that has changed significantly underneath to refine the things owners will see and experience. The exterior styling doesn't look drastically different at first, but looking closer reveals many significant changes. The trademark Rolls-Royce grille is wider and taller, and doesn't have a thick arcing border around it. The headlights are larger with sharper corners and angled slightly to sweep up towards the corners of the fascia. Moving along the sides show a similar profile to the old car, but the tail's trunk lid leans forward, as do the taillights. There's not a distinct ledge to the rear bumper, either, giving this new Ghost a sportier appearance. An extra bit of flair Rolls-Royce added is the illuminated grille. There are 20 LED lights in the top part that shine down onto the grille slats, which in turn reflect light outward. Under this new skin is a chassis that's exclusive to Rolls-Royce, unlike the old Ghost's BMW 7 Series-derived chassis. This new frame uses the flexible all-aluminum platform that underpins the new Phantom and the Cullinan. The car is also larger than its predecessor with 3.5 more inches of length and 1.2 inches of width. It all sits on independent air suspension at all four corners featuring some upper wishbone dampers at the front that Rolls-Royce says helps improve ride quality, though hasn't revealed detailed information on how it does so. It's supported by software that coordinates the reactions dictated by the suspension sensors, drive settings, all-wheel drive, four-wheel-steering (both new features for the Ghost), and even the navigation-controlled transmission to optimize driving performance and comfort. Powering the Ghost is Rolls-Royce's twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12. It makes 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Obviously only an automatic transmission is available, and power goes to all four wheels as previously mentioned. The Ghost's interior takes cues from the Phantom, with a full-width section encompassing the instruments, infotainment and an artistic dash panel, which we'll talk more about in a moment. Below that is a wood-finished panel incorporating some air vents and controls. Open-pore woods are available, including one that features aluminum in the wood grain.

Rolls-Royce shows its festive side with limited-edition Neon Nights models

Sun, Nov 29 2020

Anyone who has traveled to Las Vegas has undoubtedly seen brightly-colored Rolls-Royces parading down the Strip, but these head-turning creations usually weren't painted at the factory. The firm decided to flaunt its flamboyant side and one-up the tuners by releasing a colorful trio of limited-edition models named Neon Nights. Rolls-Royce based the Neon Nights on the Black Badge variants of the Wraith, the Dawn, and the Cullinan. Buyers have three colors to choose from: Lime Rock Green (for the Wraith), Eagle Rock Red (for the Dawn), and Mirabeau Blue (for the Cullinan). The first two receive gray leather, while the latter gets a white interior. Stylists didn't choose these colors at random. Lime Rock Green, in Rolls-Royce's own words, is naturally bestowed on the Australian green tree frog. One of its paint specialists spotted one while traveling. Eagle Rock Red is inspired by the flowers of a Hawaiian tree named 'Ohi'a lehua, and Mirabeau Blue is the paint team's tribute to the Periander metalmark butterfly that's native to Central and South America. After selecting suitably exotic plants and animals, Rolls-Royce's in-house paint team set out to give each hue a neon-like glow. Building the Neon Nights cars on the Black Badge variants peppers a bit of irony on the project, but it also gives customers more power. Pop the Cullinan's long, stately hood to find a 6.75-liter V12 that's twin-turbocharged to 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, up from 563 and 627 in the regular model. Both the Dawn and the Wraith receive a twin-turbocharged, 6.6-liter V12 with 593 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque on tap, increases of 30 and 15, respectively, over the cars not ordered with the optional Black Badge package. Rolls-Royce explained it initially planned to cap production at one car per color, and it noted the trio was created specifically for customers in the United States. Unexpected demand from other global markets convinced the company to paint three additional cars in each color, meaning a total of 12 examples will be produced. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but the buyers the British firm is trying to reach don't need ask for a window sticker. Related Video:
