This was Rolls Royce' First All New Model since the introduction of the Silver Shadow, (30 Years) and only the 9th new model in their 106 year history.
Theoretically, the car is also the "Father" of the new Phantom as it directly precedes it. It is Powered By BMW's  multiple award winning M73 V12 Engine (Ward's 10 best engines 1998, International Engine of the Year 1999)
The Engine is so smooth at idle that you can balance a nickel on top of the engine and it just stays there!
It uses a heavy duty 5 speed automatic transmission built by ZF that is incredibly smooth
The Price New of these 2000 models without options was $219,000. mine has the leather Headliner which, I believe is a 10k option. Mine Has 18" wheels that were available on this model if you ordered the Carbon Ceramic Brake Rotors, however it has the normal brake rotors.
This car is a 2 Owner vehicle if Dealers are not included. There have been three dealers between the original owner and myself. the Original owner moved the car from Florida to New York and then back to Florida and then to Texas and then back to Florida and traded it in in Early 2012 to a dealer who sold it at the Manheim Auction. A dealer in Fla. bought it and then put it on ebay. My Friend in San Luis Obispo who is a dealer( British Sports Cars) bought it and then sold it to me with 41900 miles or so. in Dec. 2012.
It has Been A great car and absolutely reliable. When you drive this car, you can expect special treatment at Hotels, Country Clubs, Restaurants and places with Valet Parking.
Check out a video review of the Silver Seraph by the British TV show Men and Motor on YouTube (channel: Menandmotor)
these cars have an ALPINE Stereo System with CD and CD Changer and Navigation.
these Cars use REGULAR BRAKE FLUID (DOT 4) instead of the Old School Mineral Oil that the older cars use.
this car will do the 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and stop from 60-0 in 3 seconds. (amazing for a 5000lb car!)
these cars have a 50/50 front to rear weight balance which really is nice in the corners. Winding Roads are a Pleasure with this car.

Former BMW M boss and Maserati CEO killed in freak motorcycle accident

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

It's a tragic coincidence that on the same weekend the BMW M4 Coupe Concept was introduced in Monterey, one of the men most integral to BMW's M and Motorsports divisions, Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, was killed in England. Kalbfell, a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, was set to compete in the Lansdowne Classic Series at Brands Hatch and had an accident during a practice session. After going wide at Druids Corner and falling, he was hit by a competitor following close behind and died of his injuries after being transported to hospital.
Kalbfell, an engineer, began his career at BMW in 1977 in the communications department; a decade later he was chairman of BMW M GmbH, overseeing development of some of the cars responsible for the myth of M. In 1994 he was named chairman of BMW Motorsport, and his cap full of feathers includes getting the BMW V12 into the McLaren F1, getting the BMW V8 into two Morgan cars, along with developing BMW's Formula One engine and return to the sport. Not incidentally, he also assumed leadership of Project Rolls-Royce after BMW bought the British marque in 1998, which means he oversaw the Goodwood factory upfit and the creation of the Phantom.
He left Rolls-Royce for a brief stint at Fiat, heading Alfa Romeo and Maserati, then went into consulting for clients like Lotus and Paragon, who built the Artega GT. As Autocar notes, Kalbfell "had an abiding sense that customers needed to be attracted to cars by their aura and reputation, not just their engineering." He will be missed.

Aeroboat packs 1,100 seahorses of Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 power

Wed, 21 May 2014

We don't typically cover boats here - this is, after all, Autoblog and not Aquablog - but every so often something comes along that makes us want to dip our toes in the water, whether it's a Jaguar-designed speedboat, a Gulf-liveried megayacht or a Lamborghini-powered Riva Aquarama. This is another one of those occasions.
Set to be unveiled at the Salute to Style show in July at The Hurlingham Club in London, the Aeroboat is a motor yacht that seems to blend retro and furutistic lines in equal measure that would make Jules Verne proud without going Steampunk. Inspired by the Spitfire fighter plane, the Aeroboat packs aircraft-inspired switchgear and shock-mounted seats into a long, sleek form. But what really has our interests piqued is what lies beneath the stylish decks.
Each of the dozen Aeroboats to be built will pack a reconditioned, marinized, fuel-injected Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine - the same 27-liter powerplant that propelled the Spitfire. With 1,100 horsepower on tap, it's expected to propel the Aeroboat up to a top speed between 75 and 95 knots, or 86-109 miles per hour by landlubber standards, which is pretty damn fast on the open water.

Rolls-Royce bringing art deco-inspired cars to Paris, celebrates with posters

Thu, 20 Sep 2012

Rolls-Royce announced that it will be bringing some "art-deco inspired" cars to the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and while we really have no clue what that means just yet, we're sure the cars are going to be very expensive.
The images show what appears to be a stylized Rolls-Royce Phantom or Ghost in an artistic rendering that would look at home in South Beach. Like the cars, Rolls-Royce is going all out with the launch of these special cars with an invitation-only introduction including a champagne reception.
We only have to wait until next week to see what features and styling changes Rolls-Royce has in store for these new bespoke models, but for now, enjoy this trio of art deco goodness and check out the press release below.
