2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition celebrates the military-derived original

Tue, Nov 10 2020

The Ram Power Wagon has made a name for itself in this century as the ultimate heavy-duty off-road pickup truck. But the name has a much longer history than that. The first Power Wagon went on sale in 1945, and was based on large military trucks built by Dodge during World War II. That's 75 years ago this year, hence the reason for the 2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition you see here. Squeaking in just in time for the civilian truck's anniversary, this special edition Power Wagon gets some visual tweaks and is loaded up with various features. On the outside you'll find standard premium LED headlights with black trim that matches the black decals and rock rails. The unique grille gets a gunmetal Ram badge and the rear doors have black 75th anniversary badges. Beadlock-capable wheels with the usual 33-inch tires round out the exterior styling. Inside, the most prominent change is the addition of brown leather seats with 75th anniversary logos in the seat backs. Dash and door trims feature gloss black plastic and brushed aluminum. The 12-inch infotainment screen is fitted and features the new-for-2021 off-road pages that display ride height, pitch and roll, and auxiliary gauges. The infotainment system is also coupled to a 750-watt, 17-speaker sound system. The special edition Power Wagons will reach dealers by the end of the year. Pricing starts at $66,945 with destination. Midsize Ram truck coming to U.S.

Fri, Jun 1 2018

The midsize truck segment is officially back in full force. Today, at FCA's new five-year plan, company CEO Sergio Marchionne and Ram head Mike Manley announced that America will be getting Ram's new global midsize truck. The new model is designed for a global audience. It will not be based on the Mitsubishi Triton, we're told. FCA already sells that model in certain markets as the Ram 1200. Trucks for the North American market will likely be built in Mexico on the old Ram Heavy Duty production line. The upcoming Ram HD — set to debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show — will be built in the US. The timing of the new midsize Ram isn't pinpointed, but the above slide from FCA's presentation suggests we'll see it by 2022. A with all upcoming Ram models, look for some form of electrification, likely in the form of the 48-volt mild hybrid system that's set to debut later this year in the 2018 Ram 1500. Don't expect the truck to tailor too heavily to US tastes like the Toyota Tacoma or Chevy Colorado. Like the upcoming Ford Ranger, this is a global truck first and foremost. Marchionne said that Ram's focus in the US will remain mostly on full-size trucks. Still it will be sold in the U.S., just not in any expected large volumes. Related Video:

Fiat Chrysler expands Takata airbag recall to 3.3M vehicles

Fri, Dec 19 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is expanding its recall of vehicles equipped with Takata airbags, moving beyond Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to the greater US, as well as Mexico, Canada and beyond. The affected vehicles, some 3.3 million in total, were built between 2004 and 2007, with many models, including the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, Durango and the Chrysler 300, having been affected by Chrysler's previous recall. Despite the somewhat alarming nature that comes with a recall of this many vehicles, it seems that Chrysler is moving more out of an abundance of caution (and federal pressure) than anything else, saying: "Neither FCA US, nor Takata Corporation, the supplier, has identified a defect in this population of inflators. These components also are distinct from Takata inflators cited in fatalities involving other auto makers. More than 1,000 laboratory tests have been performed on these components. All deployed as intended, but FCA US continues to study the suspect inflators, which are not used in the Company's current production vehicles." Owners of affected vehicles will be notified and asked to report to dealers for a free replacement driver's side airbag. Scroll down for the official press release from FCA. Statement: Global Air-Bag Inflator Replacement December 19, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC will replace driver's-side air-bag inflators in an estimated 3.3 million older-model vehicles worldwide, in an expansion of an ongoing regional field action. Neither FCA US, nor Takata Corporation, the supplier, has identified a defect in this population of inflators. These components also are distinct from Takata inflators cited in fatalities involving other auto makers. More than 1,000 laboratory tests have been performed on these components. All deployed as intended, but FCA US continues to study the suspect inflators, which are not used in the Company's current production vehicles. Outside of Florida, one of the areas covered by the original action, no FCA US vehicle has been linked to an air-bag deployment of the type that has raised public concern. Nevertheless, the Company is replacing the Takata components tied to that concern. FCA US is aware of one related injury involving one of its vehicles, an older-model sedan. It occurred in a southern Florida region marked by persistent, high, absolute humidity – a condition believed to be a contributing factor in the air-bag deployments under investigation.
