Fiat Chrysler to recall 100,000 Ram ProMaster vans over engine fire risk

Wed, Nov 27 2019

Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 100,000 Ram ProMaster vans sold in the U.S. to address an overheating issue in fan motors. The recall is limited to vans from the 2015 through 2018 model years equipped with air conditioning. The recall affects ProMaster vans equipped with 3.0-liter diesel or 3.6-liter gasoline engines. FCA says the engine cooling fans may seize up and the circuit breaker may not protect them from overheating, presenting a heightened risk of fire. That’s despite a warning-light illumination in the vans. FCA first opened an investigation in July after the U.S. Postal Service reported incidents where the engine compartment caught fire. It says it is not aware of any injuries related to the issue despite 21 complaints of smoke or fire and 13 reports from dealers. A remedy is still under development. The recall is estimated to launch in the first quarter of 2020. Separately, FCA says itÂ’s recalling an estimated 51,788 Fiat 500 compact cars from 2012 and 2013 in the U.S. to replace faulty shift-cable bushings that may degrade over time from exposure to heat and humidity. That could cause the shift cable to separate from the transmission linkage, making the shifter inoperable. The company says itÂ’s aware of three minor accidents that could be related to the issue, but no potentially related injuries. Affected customers may notice looser shifter movement, although the instrument cluster will always indicate the correct gear selected. Service will be provided free of charge, and customers will be notified. Owners with questions can also call 800-853-1403. The Fiat 500 recall also affects an estimated 10,627 models in Canada, 3,520 in Mexico and 6,826 outside North America.

2019 Ram 1500 truck gets loaded with Mopar goodies in Chicago

Fri, Feb 9 2018

Last month saw the debut of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500. While there are a slew of variants coming down the pipe (Ram 1500 Tradesman, Ram 1500 Sport, etc.), Ram used the 2018 Chicago Auto Show to showcase a whole host of Mopar parts and accessories on a bright-red 2019 Ram. In total, there will be more than 200 new parts available when the new Ram hits dealer showrooms later this year. The truck here is a Flame Red 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport 4x4. It's sporting a 2-inch lift kit, 35-inch tires, 18-inch beadlock wheels, black fender flares and black aluminum running boards. The bed has the adjustable "Ram Rack," a sort of frame that can be used to strap down large items like a couple of kayaks. The rear bumper has a bed step that articulates outward when needed. The Nissan Titan has a similar feature. View 9 Photos There are a few performance upgrades, too, though Mopar doesn't list any new power ratings. There's a new cold-air intake for the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that's functional with all of the new Ram's hood designs. The Hemi also gets a new stainless steel catback exhaust system. The 5-inch exhaust tips fit into the bumper. Visually, the Ram gets a black Mopar logo on the hood, black Ram emblems and badges, black tow hooks and a Mopar logo in the trailer hitch. The interior is done up in Katzkin leather with red stitching, and the ram's head logo on the seat backs and rubber floor mats. One of the coolest things about all of these parts is that customers can have them installed before ever taking delivery. Those parts will also be backed by the same warranty as the rest of the truck. Chrysler recalling 382k Ram HD diesel pickups, 184k SUVs

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Between GM's ignition switches and Takata's airbags, it's been a big year for recalls, but they keep rolling in. The latest comes from Chrysler, which has announced a pair of recalls for certain heavy-duty pickups and SUVs.
The first issue revolves around the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine available in the 2010-2014 Ram HD trucks, including 2500 and 3500 series pickups as well as 4500 and 5500 series chassis cabs. In the affected units, "a terminal connector near the fuel heater may be subject to friction-induced corrosion," according to the first of the two announcements from Chrysler below.
The problem could result in overheating and fuel leakage. Chrysler launched its investigation following cases of overheating, none of which actually started a fire, much less an injury or accident. As a precautionary measure, however, Chrysler is instructing service technicians to replace the terminals on an estimated 381,876 Ram units around the world - the vast majority of those (314,704) registered in the US, another 59,432 in Canada, 1,803 in Mexico and 5,937 abroad.
