Ram providing horsepower for 142nd Kentucky Derby

More than 120,000 people will descend on Louisville, KY for the 142nd Kentucky Derby this weekend. Seersucker, bowties, and very large, obnoxious hats will be the most common attire among those in attendance, all of whom will have an unquenchable thirst for mint juleps. Ram wants to capture their attention. The truckmaker has announced a new "multi-tier sponsorship" of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby, and will serve as a major advertiser during Saturday's race. The company will air two 30-second advertisements during NBC's broadcast. The first, titled "Truck People – Derby" is up top, while Ram is saving the second, "Never Settle," for race day. Beyond the ads, racegoers will be treated to on-site displays around the track, which is perhaps the best evidence of a truck's toughness – if the official truck of the Kentucky Derby can survive its notoriously "decadent and depraved" infield, it can probably handle towing a boat or hauling topsoil. The three trucks, a Rebel, a 1500 Limited, and a dual-axle 3500 Limited will even be decked out in jockey-like styles. GM also sheds parts from its pickups to boost payload ratings

The row between Ford and Ram over who boasts the best-in-class tow rating for heavy duty pickups has revealed a number of things. Chief among them is a report that Ford removes items like the spare tire, jack, radio and center console from its vehicles in a bid to lower its base curb weight and therefore keep the truck's gross vehicle weight rating down.
For those that need a refresher, GVWR is the vehicle's curb weight plus its maximum payload. A lower GVWR allows Ford to station its F-450 among the so-called Class III pickups, despite the fact that internally, it has the makings of a more brutish Class IV truck.
Ford explains away these deletions, saying a customer could order their vehicle in such a manner. It has also come to light that Ford is not the only automaker to engage in such practices.

2021 Ram 1500 Mopar '21 Edition is a very-limited-production pickup

Ram offers a multitude of trim levels and options for the 1500 pickup truck, but some people just want something a little different and a lot more exclusive. For that, there's the 2021 Ram 1500 Mopar '21 Edition. It's a customized version of a Big Horn or Lone Star Ram, and only 250 will be produced: 210 for the U.S. and 40 for Canada. The Mopar '21 Edition gets a host of extra goodies, including a number of exclusive items. Among those are the black grille surround and exhaust, stripes, cloth seats with embroidered Mopar logos and bags on the backs of said seats that attach to Molle straps. Only four colors will be offered, silver, black red and blue. The truck also gets some other generally available accessories such as the hard bed cover, spray-in bedliner, adjustable tie downs, tow hooks, running boards and all-weather floor mats. The special edition is a package available for the aforementioned Big Horn and Lone Star Rams when equipped with a 5.7-liter V8, four-wheel-drive and the Crew Cab configuration with a 5-foot-7-inch bed.
