2021 L.A. Auto Show roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures

Thu, Nov 18 2021

The L.A. Auto Show took place this week for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. It was a show packed with news and reveals, which hasn't really been the case with other shows we've seen this year, and Autoblog was on the floor covering every minute of it. Well, Riswick and Stocksdale were, anyway. The rest of us were sitting at home in our sweatpants, but hey, we'll take credit anyway. Let's get to it. Hyundai Seven Concept This is the Hyundai Seven Concept, and it’s meant to act as a preview for an incoming electric SUV for the Ioniq brand. It leans more toward the concept side of the spectrum than a production car, but expect the final SUV to take design cues from the Seven Concept. Kia Concept EV9 The Hyundai Seven counterpart isn't the only big, bold electric SUV at L.A. this year. Kia has its own take, and it's a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next production electric cars for the brand, which should look right at home next to things like the Telluride. 2023 Kia Sportage HEV As promised, the 2023 Kia Sportage HEV has been revealed. The hybrid powertrain makes the compact SUV the most powerful version available, and it goes on sale next year. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44-kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower. The company didn't give a torque number, but it should basically be the same as the Sorento HEV that has the same basic powertrain: 258 pound-feet. Those numbers are a healthy step up from the 187 horsepower of the base 2.5-liter engine. 2022 Range Rover If you noticed how extra smooth and suave the new Range Rover looked during its recent reveal, Autoblog's James Riswick got a design tour that revealed some of the technological secrets to its success. "Less is more" is harder to achieve than it looks. Fisker Ocean Fisker has brought the new Ocean EV to the L.A. Auto Show, with a public preview at Manhattan Beach and a presence at the show itself. You can watch the public show reveal above, and see more shots from the show floor below. Fisker says the Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives. That entry model would be the Sport trim with a single, 275-horsepower motor driving the front wheels and 250 miles of estimated range. It also has a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. 2023 Toyota bZ4X This is the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, due to hit U.S.

Techart tastefully tunes Porsche 911, Cayenne

Tue, Mar 1 2016

German tuning haus Techart is making a big showing at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, introducing modified versions of a number of Porsche products. At the fore, we have the new, all-turbo 911 range. Techart has turned its hand to both the turbocharged 911 and the new 911 Turbo (this will get less confusing, right?) with a range of upgrades covering performance and aesthetics. Techart has boosted the Carrera S from 420 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque to 460 ponies and 413 lb-ft of torque. The Turbo S gets a bigger boost, going from 580 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque to 640 hp and 649 lb-ft. It's not clear how Techart has made these gains, aside from the company's "Techtronic" engine management. Surprisingly for an aftermarket tuner at Geneva, Techart's exterior treatments are downright tasteful. There are new front and rear clips and a selection of rear wings, helpfully called Rear Wing I and Rear Wing II, while the diffusers and side skirts are also swapped out. We also dig the center-exit exhaust and its four meaty tips. On the opposite end of the equation, Techart is also modding the Cayenne range. The new Magnum Sport treatment can be applied to the base diesel-powered Cayenne and Cayenne S, the gas-powered GTS, and the Turbo with varying degrees of performance, but it's the force-induced Cayenne we're most interested. In its most potent form, the turbocharged V8 can be boosted from 520 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque to 700 hp and 678 lb-ft. At this level of performance, the Cayenne's sprint falls from 4.4 seconds to just 4.1. That ties the stock Cayenne Turbo S, but it's worth noting the Magnum Sport will do 183 miles per hour to the factory model's 176. Like the 911, there's a slew of aesthetic upgrades regardless of which Cayenne your Magnum is based on. The full body kit isn't as tasteful as the 911. The overall look is far more aggressive and dare we say aftermarket, with plenty of carbon-fiber accents, a very low ride and a serious wide-body look. In particular, the new front and rear fascia present a much more imposing appearance. There's also a carbon-fiber hood, because the aftermarket. We've snapped Techart's modified Cayenne and 911 on the floor of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. And if you scroll down, there's also the official galleries and press releases for both models. Have a look, and register your opinion in Comments. Related Video: TECHART Personalization for the new Porsche 911 models.

Magnus Walker soliloquizes in his Porsche 911 at night

Fri, 23 Aug 2013

Magnus Walker, a prolific Los Angeles clothing designer who has also carved out a respected spot for himself in Porsche world, has had yet another video made about him and his sizable Porsche collection. In this latest video, Hong Kong-based Obscura magazine focuses its video cameras on Walker and his 1971 Porsche 911 track car (yes, the one that appeared on Jay Leno's Garage) as he speeds around Downtown LA and Little Tokyo late at night.
We've heard Walker's story many times before. He's not like the average Porsche owner, perhaps a tad more passionate than most, and he builds 911s like he designs clothes: his way. Sure, we might be a little envious, but can you blame us? View this very slick and entertaining nighttime video entitled Disturbing The Peace below.
