2000 Porsche Boxster – VIN WP0CA2980YU623993

For your consideration is my happy little unmolested 2000 Porsche Boxster – the car that brought Porsche motoring back to the masses. This car has not been restored in any way, shape, or form, but is an excellent low mileage driver and gets “thumbs-up” and positive comments everywhere we go.

I purchased this car from one of the local Porsche franchise dealers where it had been traded-in by the second owner on a new Porsche. I was surprised to find a 13 year-old car like this on a new car dealer's lot, but once I looked it over I understood why -it's truly a standout example, and one I thought I'd never find after looking at a lot of used and abused Boxsters - and it came with a clean CarFax to boot!  This one had clearly been loved!  Wearing just over 72,000 miles, I bought it as a fun weekend runabout. As a freelance automotive journalist, I’m now on to my next project.  I am also thinning the herd.  I have 2 factory keys and two file folders full of records along with the original manuals.  It comes with 17" Carrera alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering whee and seats, power windows, locks and top, CD changer, and a Porsche OEM car cover.

In the last few thousand miles it has received: 1) new clutch; 2) oil and filter change; 3) main motor mount; 4) Continental performance all-season DWS tires. The OEM convertible top is in very nice condition.

On the inside, this car is in excellent condition, not having suffered from the interior trim cracking and seat seam splits that plague so many Boxsters. There are no foul odors, and the carpets and new OEM floor mats are in good condition.  The original radio/cassette, CD changer, heater, and air conditioning all work perfectly, and the car recently passed the stringent Virginia safety inspection (good through 10/15).

Outside, the car is remarkably straight save for a few very small parking lot dings. The speed yellow paint is in remarkable condition , and the doors shut perfectly.  All of the lenses are in good, clear condition. The alloy wheels are in very nice condition, save for the right rear wheel which shows some kerbing on the lip, and the original spare tire and tool kit are in the front trunk.

The motor starts easily and settles to a very smooth idle. The power steering functions properly, and the 5-speed manual transmission (no Tiptronic here!) shifts as smoothly as any Porsche I’ve driven (including a new 911S Carrera 7-speed!). There are no odd noises or whines from the driveline. The new clutch takes-up properly and the car does not smoke irregularly. The brakes are in good condition and do not pull. The brake pedal is appropriately firm.

Please keep in mind that this is not a new vehicle and that it is sold as-is, where-is with no warrantees implied, stated, or otherwise intended.  You are bidding to own this vehicle, not to come and look at it after the auction has ended.  I encourage bidders to come and see the car if possible.  You are welcome to have the car inspected at your expense prior to the conclusion of the auction.  Remember, my descriptions are based on my knowledge of the car.  I cannot say that it is without flaws.  I don't care what classic car you are looking at, it will have flaws.  I can assure you that this is a superb car that you can cherish for years to come.

A non-refundable deposit of $1000 must be sent by PayPal within 24 hours of the conclusion of the auction.  The balance must be paid within seven days of the end of the auction or upon pick-up of the car, whichever is earlier. The balance of the purchase price may NOT be made by PayPal. I will accept cash, bank wire transfer, or cashier's check only.  Purchaser is responsible for pick-up or all costs related to the shipping of the car.

PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR BID.  IF YOU HAVE ZERO OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, YOU MUST CONTACT ME THROUGH EBAY PRIOR TO BIDDING.  I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID IF YOU DO NOT.   DO NOT BID ON THE CAR UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO PURCHASE IT AS YOU ARE ENTERING INTO A BINDING AGREEMENT.  IF YOU FAIL TO COME AND SEE THE CAR OR HAVE IT INSPECTED BY YOUR AGENT, I WILL NOT ENTERTAIN YOU CANCELLING THE SALE FOR ANY REASON ONCE THE AUCTION HAS ENDED.

I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION EARLY.  I WILL ENTERTAIN SERIOUS OFFERS TO END THE AUCTION EARLY.  I WILL ALSO ASSIST PURCHASER IN ARRANGING SHIPPING TO ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD AT THE PURCHASER'S EXPENSE.

Thank you for looking!

Porsche 911 Carrera gets turbocharged engine for under $90k

Mon, Sep 7 2015

There's a new Porsche 911 Carrera blowing into dealerships in March of 2016, and it will be the first such model from the German automaker to boast a turbocharged engine. Making 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque from 3.0 liters of displacement, the new flat-six engine in the base Carrera is 20-hp stronger than it was in 2015. Carrera S models bump the power level to 420 ponies and 368 lb-ft thanks to tweaked tuning parameters. The added grunt makes these the fastest 911 Carrera models ever, with Porsche touting a 7:30 lap – a full 10 seconds faster than before – of the famed Nurburgring track in Germany as proof. Those who only care about going fast in a straight line will be delighted by the 4.0-second 0-60 time of the base Carrera and even more impressed by the S model's 3.7-second run. Top speeds are 183 and 191 miles per hour, respectively. A seven-speed manual transmission is standard, and Porsche's Doppelkupplung (PDK) automated manual gearbox is optional. When equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, the 911 Carrera features a new mode switch on the steering wheel with settings for Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual. Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard on all models, and, in another first for a Carrera, rear-wheel steering is optional. Efficiency hasn't been forgotten for 2016, either. Porsche says its new 911 Carrera models will be as much as 12-percent more fuel economy with their new turbocharged engines. Tech buffs will surely appreciate the new Porsche Communication Management infotainment system, which features multi-touch gesture capability and handwriting recognition right on the seven-inch display. Apple CarPlay is also supported, and Google Earth and Streetview are new to PCM for 2016. The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera is slated to hit the States with an MSRP of $89,400 (we assume that won't include destination, which in 2015 equals $995), which is about $5,000 more expensive than the 2015 model that's currently available. The 2016 Carrera S will carry a sticker price of $103,400, which is a $4,500 increase. Cabriolet models will run from $101,700 to $115,700. Porsche will show its latest 911 Carrera off at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, but you can read all the details right now in the press release below.

2014 Porsche Panamera Diesel is something to torque about

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Porsche has been in the business of slaying sacred cows for the better part of a decade, from venturing into the SUV space with the Cayenne to the four-door realm with its Panamera hatchback. And if those vehicles didn't leave brand purists apoplectic enough, Porsche has been adding diesel and hybrid power to its portfolio, thought to this point, neither alt-fuel motivator has made its way into the brand's sports car lineup.
Today's Frankfurt Motor Show effectively marks the second-generation of diesel power in the Panamera, and this updated 3.0-liter V6 features 300 horsepower (50 ponies more than last year) and a whopping 479 pound-feet of torque, available from 2,500 rpm. That power is achieved with a new higher-pressure, water-cooled turbo and redesigned engine internals that include a new crankshaft and pistons. The newfound increase is said to raise top speed to 161 miles per hour from 152, and drop the car's 0-62 mph time from 6.8 seconds down to 6.0. It also figures to be a better handler, with a new torque-vectoring rear differential borrowed from its gas-powered brethren and a reworked transmission for crisper shifts. The suspension has also been retuned, along with the updated 2014 visuals first revealed at April's Shanghai Motor Show.
No word yet on the North American sales prospects of this diesel Panamera, but we imagine that depends in part on how well the Cayenne diesel is selling.

1978 Porsche 930 in Australia spans generations on Petrolicious

Wed, Feb 24 2016

Deryck Shakespeare grew up around his father's Porsches, and inherited a white 1978 930 from his uncle just before the relative's death. Now, it looks like the turbocharged coupe might go to Shakespeare's son someday, as this latest video from Petrolicious' highlights a family bond that spans three generations. Shakespeare's Porsche still looks lovely, and it barks a wonderful burble from the exhaust, too. Driving it, however, can be a handful. There're no power steering or electronic aids, and the engine has lots of power and turbo lag. "The technology isn't in the car to cope with the amount of horsepower," he says in the video. Since owning it, Shakespeare and his son have bonded over the Porsche. Deryck plans to hand over the 930 to his boy someday when he's ready to handle this tricky kind of automobile. His son even saves his allowance to upgrade the interior. With that attitude, he should make a great owner someday... just like his dad. Related Video:
