1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS takes center stage with Petrolicious
Wed, 04 Jun 2014Today, one of the most exciting track toys available is the Porsche 911 GT3. Its forbearer, though, was an altogether different beast that was every bit as exciting. Yes, we're talking about the old 911 Carrera RS that blessed the early 1970s. With a mere 1,580 cars built, meant specifically to satisfy the FIA's homologation requirements, the RS is one rare pre-Malaise era cars.
Complete with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine, this RS of Mark Haddawy is one of the earlier examples of the breed (later cars received a larger, 3.0-liter engine). Still, it can scamper to 60 miles per hour in a very respectable 5.6 seconds and will happily hit 150 mph in a straight line. Sporting Porsche's iconic duckbill rear spoiler, the equally iconic Fuchs wheels, as well as slew of options, as Haddawy points out, each of the nearly 1,600 RS models is its own unique iteration on the Porsche performance formula.
Take a look below for the latest video from the crew at Petrolicious.
Porsche Macan to debut at LA Auto Show
Wed, 29 May 2013Auto Express reports Porsche will unveil the upcoming Macan SUV at this year's LA Auto Show. Citing an unnamed "insider," AE says that the five-door will bow with engines, suspension and interior architecture that will help differentiate it from its Audi Q5 chassis mate. Big shocker there. We've been hearing the same line since we first caught word of the Macan back when it was still rolling around under the Cajun name. The report does shed some light on the model's pricing, however. That same insider says the Porsche Macan will carry a price tag of 36,000 pounds.
What does that mean for American buyers? Do some quick math based on current conversion rates, and average UK and US prices, and we come up with a sticker of roughly $42,000 here in the land of the free. That fits in line with the rest of the company's stable, with the larger Cayenne starting at $49,600.
Still, we'll wait for more concrete word before jumping behind the AE report wholeheartedly. The 2013 LA Auto Show gets going in late November.
Porsche skipping 2017 Detroit Auto Show
Tue, Jul 26 2016Porsche is going to pass on the annual North American International Auto Show in January 2017. The news was first reported on Tuesday by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. NAIAS spokesman Max Muncey confirmed the report to Autoblog. According to Automotive News, Porsche will shift its auto show focus to April's New York International Auto Show and November's Los Angeles International Auto Show. Chicago Auto Show spokesman Dave Sloan reached out to Autoblog to add that Porsche is doubling the size of its exhibit in the Windy City. According to AN, Porsche "viewed the cost and value of participating in the Detroit auto show were no longer viable." See, Detroit is big on news and debuts instead of ultra-impressive ticket sales. But over 1 million people passed through the doors of the Jacob Javits Center in New York last year, just under 200,000 more than in the Motor City. LA, meanwhile, is Porsche's biggest US market, which explains the loyalty. In other words, Detroit's great for debuting cars, but without anything new Porsche can get more cluck for its buck by reallocating resources to New York and LA. If Porsche's rationale sounds familiar, it's because it is. Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Tesla used Detroit's heavy focus on new vehicle introductions and its relatively small attendance to skip the 2016 North American International Auto Show in favor of shows with higher attendance. Porsche previously skipped the 2009 NAIAS, citing similar reasons. Related Video: News Source: Automotive News - sub. req.Image Credit: Patrick T.
