Infiniti cribs new US boss from Porsche

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Just weeks before he was supposed to become CEO of Porsche Cars Australia, Infiniti has apparently offered Porsche COO and Executive Vice President Michael Bartsch a deal he couldn't refuse. Thus, Bartsch has join the company as Vice President of Infiniti Americas, the luxury marque's top North American post. Bartsch replaces Ben Poore, who has been with the automaker since 2008, having led both a 22-percent sales surge in 2012 and the brand's current sales slough, Automotive News reports.
Bartsch, Porsche's No. 2 US executive, has held the COO and Executive Vice President positions at Porsche since 2005 and was scheduled to become CEO of Porsche's Oz division on September 1. Infiniti has experienced a number of recent personnel changes in the past week: it named Vincent Gillet, formerly an executive for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, to lead its marketing efforts worldwide and Simon Cox, a former designer for automakers including Ford and Peugeot, to head a new design studio in London.
Poore reportedly will pursue other interests outside of the auto industry. Read more about the personnel change in the press release below.

Porsche 918 Spyder recalled over bad wiring harness

Fri, May 22 2015

An investigation of customer concerns has led to a global recall of the Porsche 918 Spyder, including 223 units in North America. The carmaker said that a carbon fiber component can damage a radiator fan wiring harness, so it is contacting owners directly to have their cars brought in for a service inspection. The issue affects cars built through the end of April 2015; cars built after that use a revised design. Dealers will remount the wiring harness, a process that should take half a day. You'll find more information in the press release below. Porsche has issued a global recall for 918 Spyder models that have already been delivered. This precautionary recall for a service inspection affects 223 vehicles in the United States. This is because the electric wiring harness for a radiator fan in vehicles manufactured up until the end of April 2015 could be damaged by a carbon-fiber component. The wiring harness will be examined and optimally remounted in the work shop. The cause was identified following a detailed examination of inquiries. Corrective measures have subsequently been taken in manufacturing. The owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Porsche Cars North America. The service visit, which will be free of charge, will be arranged as quickly as possible and the inspection will likely require the vehicle to be left in the shop for half a day. Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo returns in these spy shots

Thu, Feb 4 2016

Way back in 2012, Porsche got enthusiasts all hot and bothered with the Panamera Sport Turismo at the Paris Motor Show. The concept imagined a hybrid wagon with a shapely rear end. Porsche said at the time production was "possible," but these spy shots indicate the vehicle is actually under development now. Take a close look through the gallery and you'll see that this test car sports some light camouflage at the back, but it does nothing to hide the new rump. Compared to the sedan, the longer roof looks to provide extra headroom for rear passengers, along with a few extra cubes of cargo space. The rear glass sits more upright, and a spoiler visually lengthens the five-door. The wagon's front end is identical to other recent spy shots of the future Panamera. We don't have any technical details about the wagon, but it would likely share powertrains with the sedan. The cabin layout would probably also be identical, including touch-capacitive controls to replace traditional buttons. A Panamera wagon makes sense in the Porsche range. The long-roof version would offer all of the sedan's performance but have a little more room. If a customer with a family doesn't want a Cayenne, this would be the obvious alternative, and the massive 911 range shows Porsche isn't afraid to build a bevy of model variants. If you think a Panamera station wagon seems odd, just remember people thought a Porsche SUV was weird, too. And, of course, that move turned into a huge success for the company. Related Video:
