  • $1,890 - Custom cat-back exhaust; the images are of my custom exhaust system; this is the best sounding straight-thru exhaust system I've heard yet for the CS.  The Zoomers vortex generating technology (see  www.ZoomersExhaust.com) promises to make slightly more low RPM torque due to increased back pressure at lower RPMs.  Then as the RPMs climb, the vortex develops a vacuum to create scavenging and improved flow. The mufflers are off-the-shelf items from  www.ZoomersExhaust.com; the main runners are manufactured by  www.supersprintna.com. I retained the perfectly engineered OEM transverse suspension type muffler support and RSS created the interface to the Zoomers cans with custom brackets.  I replaced the OEM rear T-merge pipe with a scavenging Y-merge pipe and used OEM Cayman (full flowing non-S version vs. the restrictive S version) tips secured with the OEM clamps using new stainless steel washers and nuts.  See YouTube video, here:
  • $1230 - TPC Pro Race sway bars (front and rear) requires either TPC’s noisy front links or the quiet ones from Anze…see below; installed at 36,000 miles
  • $295 - Anze Suspension front sway bar links; www.AnzeSuspension.com; installed at 36,000 miles
  • $3,023 - Bilstein Damptronic Coil-overs with PASM interface; 285# linear front springs (vs. OEM 200# progressive); 370# progressive rear springs (vs. OEM 250# progressive); installed at 38,000 miles
  • $1,150 - IPD Race Plenum with 82mm throttle body (compared to 76mm stock)
  • $62 - Under-drive pulley reduces parasitic drag by 20% freeing up about 5 H.P.  Don't forget to change your accessory belt to a shorter length belt, 2082 mm (31mm shorter than stock) seems to be the best length based on the calculation of the pulley circumferences. For your reference this Gates belt is #K060820
  • $28 - Gates K060820 Multi V-groove serpentine belt (spare)
  • De-snorked intake; follow the directions on the Cayman Club at http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showproduct.php?product=29&cat=4 however it is best if you also remove the snorkel tube located behind the part that is retained and has the screen added.
  • $327 - Evolution Motor Sports Intake and Air Filter, see http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showproduct.php?product=11&cat=4
  • $54 - Battery Life-Saver; see http://www.batterylifesaver.com/ . Keeps your battery like new for about ten years (otherwise you battery dies a slow death every day due to the endless cycle of sulfate build up)
  • $262 - Odyssey battery
  • $1,915 - GiroDisc oversized rotors
  • $210 - H&R Wheel Spacers; 7mm front and 15 mm rear
  • $397 - Pagid brake pads: Front - U2405 "S" compound; Rear - U2406 "S" compound
  • $148 - Goodridge stainless braided brake hoses
  • $250 - LN Engineering in-line power-steering cooler
  • $356 - LN Engineering 160 degree thermostat
  • $141 - LN Engineering Spin-On Oil Filter Adapter
  • $26 - LN Engineering magnetic drain plug
  • $61 - FilterMag oil filter magnet
  • $349 - LED Spars with Radiator Guards; see www.planet-9.com/classifieds.php
  • $285 XM radio in my glovebox, equipped with an infrared receiver/repeater so that you can control the XM unit via a remote control (see attached pictures), with In-Home XM play-box
  • $768 - Porsche Aero-Kit front splitter
  • $514 - Tikore titanium lug-bolts
  • $108 - Ultimate Pedals heel-and-toe accelerator pedal
  • $230 - Automotion Halon fire extinguisher and floor-mount bracket
  • $84 - Hella Twin Supertone horns
  • $30 - 3100 lumen high beams (vs. OE 1344 lumen)
  • $26 - diadem coated turn-signal lamps (clear w/ blue tint)

When the car was delivered new, I installed XPEL clear bra on the following areas:

1) Entire front bumper cover
2) Entire front hood
3) Entire front left and right fender
4) Entire roof
5) Right and left rear-view mirrors

The bra was showing signs of age and was just removed a few days ago. All of these surfaces look like brand new!

Former Porsche boss Wiedeking won't face criminal charges over VW bid

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Hedge fund managers have been suing Porsche for years now, alleging that the car company lied about its intentions during its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen, a gambit that caused them billion in losses. Over the same period, authorities in Stuttgart built a criminal case against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above, left) and Chief Financial Officer Holger Härter (right), filing charges in December 2012. When those fund plaintiffs lost their most recent court case, one of the dimming lights in the dark and receding tunnel was that the criminal investigation might unearth more evidence about Porsche's actions that could help the plaintiffs in pending litigation.
Bloomberg reports that another light has gone out, though, with a Stuttgart court dismissing the market manipulation case before going to trial because, as a court spokesperson said, "there wasn't enough evidence backing up the charges." When prosecutors get the files back from the court, they have a week to decide to refile, but unless they've been sandbagging evidence that could bolster the case, the only lights at the end of the tunnel will be those welcoming Wiedeking and Härter back to the world of legally unencumbered men.

Watch onboard video of the Porsche 918 Spyder's record 'Ring lap

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

"Pics or it didn't happen!" You could almost hear the Internet shouting this when news started to trickle in about a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap by the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Well, after an official press release, which we ran earlier today, we have your "pics." Moving pics, to be more exact. Porsche has released on-board footage of the 6:57 lap.
The video, which runs about eight-and-a-half minutes, and shows the 918 from inside the car on a flying lap of the German track. Perhaps what's remarkable is just how undramatic it all looks. Sure, there's some sawing at the wheel from test driver Marc Lieb (one of three testers, including legendary rally king Walter Röhrl), but he makes wrangling the Martini-liveried 918 look kind of easy.
Take a look down below for the full, on-board video, and then click over and read our initial write-up from earlier this morning and take a glance at the more stylized video that Porsche originally posted.

Father-son team grows close by building tuned Porsche

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

We've seen several heartwarming videos of kids bonding over cars with their parents, whether racing together or giving them as gifts. The story of Leh Keen and his father McGrath, though, is somewhat different. Not many dads are looking for a vehicle quite this mental.
As Leh tells it, his dad saw a video online of one of the wild Porsches from Japanese tuner Rauh-Welt Begriff and decided that he needed one of the creations in his own garage. Since Leh knows something about cars himself as a driver for Alex Job Racing in the United SportsCar Championship, McGrath put his son in charge of managing the build from the company.
When the car made it to the US for completion from Rauh's famed builder Nakai, father and son bonded over the red, widebody 993-platform 911. The final product is certainly eye-catching. Scroll down to watch the video that features not only an engrossing father-son tale but also a seriously wicked, tuned Porsche from one of Japan's finest.
