2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series is a seriously quick way to spend $260k

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

Porsche is usually associated with being a sports car brand, but with vehicles like the Cayenne and Panamera it takes a step into the world of luxury against firmly established players like Mercedes-Benz. One way for the company to poke its head above the high-class fray is by taking things further, and in the case of the Panamera Exclusive Series at the Los Angeles Auto Show, it means pushing grandeur to extreme levels.
Coming in at an absolutely eye-watering $263,900, plus $995 destination, the Panamera Exclusive starts its life as the already sumptuous Panamera Turbo S Executive with a 4.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 making 570 horsepower on an extended wheelbase. To help justify the extra $63,000 for the Exclusive, though, the model gets 20-inch black Sport Classic wheels and an interior in swaddled in Nappa leather with dark walnut and piano black trim. Rear passengers also get 10.1-inch touchscreens mounted on the back of the front seats. A set of fitted Poltrana Frau leather luggage is included with each one, as well.
The luxurious sedan earns it Exclusive moniker because just 100 of them are being made worldwide. Scroll down to read about Porsche's ultimate limousine.

Porsche 5 Series fighter may be electric

Wed, May 6 2015

We know that Porsche is developing a seventh model range for its lineup thanks to the March announcement from company boss Matthias Muller. The actual identity of this future vehicle remains a mystery, though. Autocar is coming down firmly on the side of the smaller Panamera, codenamed the Pajun, and speculates the new entry might be available in battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell versions based on recent patent filings. Porsche is famous for sticking with the rear-engine layout on the 911 for decades, even as the company moves the powertrain forward in other models. According to Autocar, the EV version of the Pajun might mark a return to these roots. The German brand is reportedly preparing a modified version of Volkswagen Group's MSB platform for the new vehicle. Called eMSB, the setup puts the batteries and electric motors at the back, and each rear wheel would receive power separately to allow for torque vectoring. The system is estimated to generate 420 horsepower, which is on par with the all-wheel-drive Tesla Model S 85D. The fuel cell Pajun would join the lineup later. The Pajun is rumored to take on the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but any luxury EV of that size must count the Tesla Model S as a competitor, too. According to Autocar, the styling takes cues from the Panamera Sport Turismo concept (pictured above) and could launch around 2018. Rumors of Porsche's Tesla-fighter were swirling for months before Muller's announcement, and talk of the Pajun has gone on even longer. Previous reports have suggested the possibility of a 300-mile range and an all-wheel-drive layout with 600 hp. While the actual design has remained ambiguous beyond the potential link to the Panamera, the model was possibly spied last year at the Porsche Design Tower in Florida.

Viral video helps catch unlicensed teen hit-and-run driver

Fri, Jun 24 2016

A video of a driver mangling a Porsche SUV was uploaded for a laugh on YouTube last week, but police recognized the vehicle and suspected it was used in an early crime. The video titled How to park your Porsche in Vancouver recently surfaced on YouTube and was meant to be a source of entertainment. However, it appeared that there is damage on the passenger side of the vehicle, opposite the side being scraped away on the garage wall. A few days after its initial posting, the video came to the attention of the Vancouver Police Department who used it as evidence to find a hit-and-run driver. Constable Brian Montague of the VPD said that the vehicle shown in the video hit a parked, unoccupied car on June 16. Using the video, VPD officers tracked down the Porsche driver, who turned out to be a sixteen-year-old kid with no license. Montague stated that if the young driver had stayed at the scene of the crash, they very likely would have gotten off with a fine for driving without a license. Unfortunately, because they fled the scene, the driver is facing multiple, costly charges including hit-and-run and driving without a license. The driver will also be responsible to damage caused to the parked car and to the house they damaged while trying to hide the Porsche.
