Porsche 911 spied looking like a Porsche 911

The 2017 Porsche 911 hasn't gone on sale yet and spy photographers have already snapped an early mule for the next-generation 911 due in calendar year 2018. It might be difficult to make out underneath the cobbled-together bodywork of the previous 991-version 911, but this one has a wider rear end that could be hiding the plug-in hybrid powertrain expected to come with the next big model update, perhaps codenamed 992. The strange white plug would be where owners plug the coupe in, according to this patent drawing. There have been rumors of a hybrid 911 coming for more than a year now, with some suspicious bits in a mule seen last year, and early prognostications being that Porsche is lining up the powertrain for the 911 Turbo to produce somewhere around 720 horsepower. That would make sense as the first stop for the learning and components of the 918 Spyder to trickle down to the 911 range. If Porsche migrated the 918's 156-hp electric motor unchanged into the 560-hp 911 Turbo, you're looking at a 716-hp monster that accelerates even more quickly. A hybrid 911 Carrera model would sit above the standard turbocharged engines. Elsewhere, the 992 model will come on the current MMB platform, and the exterior will be one of evolution, naturally. Interior upgrades will include a fully digital instrument panel. Or, going off the reservation, former Porsche chairman Matthias Muller said earlier this year that, "the high-speed high-tech laboratory of the 919 Hybrid will benefit all our future vehicles" in reference to expanding the Porsche model line to seven models. At the time, Bloomberg wondered if Muller was referring to the long-rumored Ferrari competitor Porsche has debated.

Panamera-bodied SUV spy photos suggest Porsche Cayenne Coupe is coming

WIth the current Porsche Cayenne approaching its seventh model year an all new version is on the way. But we also here that there will be a coupe-style variant similar to the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe following soon after. And yes, we gave up this semantic fight long ago - in this case "coupe" simply means a sportier, lower roofline similar to the style of an actual two-door. These spy photos give us some idea of what a Cayenne coupe could look like, although only in very rough form. That's because you're looking at a 2017 Porsche Panamera body stretched over a taller SUV platform. Even with the low resolution of these long-lens pictures, you can see the extensions grafted on below the doors and bumpers. Of course, with Porsche styling language more of less consistent across its entire model range the general look of the next Cayenne - or Cayenne Coupe - won't be much of a surprise. And we expect the interior to closely mimic what we've seen with the new Panamera. The SUV's true visual character will depend on the details, and we'll have to wait for the production version to see that. Proof the Porsche 911 GT3 may get a manual transmission again

Porsche left fans of the manual shifter out in the cold when it launched the previous 911 GT3 solely with the PDK dual-clutch transmission. Porsche continued the trend with the GT3 RS. Now, it looks like past rumors were true, and Porsche may be looking to make amends with its neglected fans. Our spy photographers caught what appears to be the updated GT3 in the wild. The exterior is exposed and shows the typical track-oriented 911 fare: low chin spoiler, large rear wing, wide rear wheels and tires. Inside, it seems engineers have taken great care to hide the shifter. Somewhere under that big cone of foam lies the gear selector. Our spy photographers also note that the steering wheel lacks any sort of shift paddles and the gauge cluster doesn't have a shift indicator. If we could see how many pedals this 911 was packing, we could pretty much close the book on what transmission this car has, but we can't see them from the photos. This still seems like promising evidence that future GT3 owners will have the option to shift for themselves. Also, if our spy photographers are right, those owners will also be enjoying the same 500-horsepower flat-six of the 911 R and current GT3 RS. Related Video:
