Man steals Porsche, brags on video, then crashes into wall

    Thu, Dec 3 2015

Here's your daily reminder that thieves are morons. This also serves as reminder that not everything you do needs to be committed to video. A man in Gloucester, a city in southwest England, was stupid enough to steal a Porsche Boxster and then take a video in it. Oh, and of course, he crashed it. Now, we'll give this dimwit, 25-year-old Jamie Lee Sharp, some credit – he didn't actually admit that he stole the car on video, at least based on the 45-second clip released by Gloucester police and hosted by The Guardian. According to the story, there was more footage, which included Sharp driving the car and phoning friends, before he crashed it into a wall. It's not clear if the crash was caught on video, though. Following the crash, Sharp's accomplice, 26-year-old James Honeywell, abandoned him at the scene of the wreck. Both thieves were arrested following the January incident, though, and were just recently sentenced by British authorities following guilty pleas. The crown awarded Sharp's actions with a four-year stay in one of Her Majesty's prisons for burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, drunk driving, and driving without insurance. Honeywell got 35 months burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, and failure to appear at court. His license was also suspended for nearly two and half years, too, The Guardian reports. Paul Walker's daughter settles for $10m in crash lawsuit

    Sun, Apr 10 2016

Meadow Walker, daughter of the late Paul Walker, has agreed to a settlement with the estate of Roger Rodas worth $10.1 million over the death of her father. The basis of the settlement is that Rodas, who was driving the Porsche Carrera GT when it crashed, killing himself and Walker, was partly at fault for Walker's death. Police officials ruled that excessive speed was the main cause of the deaths of Rodas and Walker. According to TMZ, quoting attorney Jeff Milam, who is representing Meadow Walker, this sum is only a small fraction of the amount Paul Walker would have earned over his lifetime as an actor, which is almost certainly true. Walker was 40 at the time of his death, and was in the midst of a highly successful Hollywood career. A lawsuit was filed in September of 2015 by Walker's daughter against Porsche, alleging that the German automaker is also at fault for the deaths. Through her lawyer, Meadow says she "intends to hold the company responsible for producing a vehicle that was defective and caused Paul Walker's death." A court recently found that Porsche was not at fault for the death of Roger Rodas. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Chris Harris condemns demonization of Porsche Carrera GT in wake of Walker death

    Fri, 06 Dec 2013

When something bad happens, it's easy to resort to scapegoating. At least for some of us, that seems to be exactly what has happened following the tragic death of actor Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas, who were killed on November 30 in a Porsche Carrera GT. Even though officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash, that isn't stopping many theories from being put for - theories that include blaming the Porsche supercar. Rather predictably, not only is the CGT's difficult nature getting examined, but indeed, the nature of all high-performance cars is being put under the public's microscope, with some wondering what the need for all the power is.
A Google search of "Porsche Carrera GT" will find no shortage of articles about the razor-sharp handling and outright speed of the CGT. Pistonheads' Chris Harris has a different, insightful take on both the Carrera GT and the nature of all fast cars. He reflects on the matter, ironically, en route to drive the successor to the car that killed Walker and Rodas, the 900-horsepower 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.
We think it's well worth a read, as it makes a number of good points about modern high-performance automobiles and the way they're used. Click over and take a look.
