1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Very well maintained, garage kept, collector car. This car has not been a daily driver, it is kept as a collector car and is only driven in the warm dry summer days. Since it was kept in a garage, the paint and plastic are preserved. It recently has had the timing belt replaced along with a number of front seals and belt rollers/bearings. Valve seals have been replaced. New front suspension a-arms (replacing the a-arms is the way to replace the lower ball joints). Engine runs well, shifts smooth. Mechanically it is very good except the A/C leaks (just put a can of 134 in at the beginning of summer and it will last the summer) and turbo leaks a little oil. As for the turbo oil, I can see that there is moist oil in around the turbo area, so it leaks outward a little. And if it sits, it will blow a little smoke out the exhaust until it is all burnt off (then it stops). Do not let me make you think it is bad, I am just being honest and letting you know everything, which you may not find in the other ads. Go see the other cars for sale, and then come and see mine, I know which one you will want. Doesn't need anything else. Tires are fairly new with deep tread, Dunlop SP9000. Though there is some vibration in the front wheels, they should be rebalanced, maybe weights fell off them. There is a straight pipe on the car, but the original cat is included in the sale. There is also a K&N air filter and a boost enhancer. I do not know for sure if the car was chipped. It does run around 1 bar if you trust the on board boost gauge. Cosmetically it looks great from 5ft. The paint is glossy and deep. It looks good. When you see a 944 you can tell it is either well taken care of or it is beat. There are a lot of beat 944's out there. This is one that looks nice and will get you a lot of compliments. Just look at the pictures, it does look that good. But I am a perfectionist and I must tell you about the flaws. There are numerous little paint flaws. There a number of dings (surprisingly they are on the front nose, hood, and roof, not on the side). There are a number of stone chips on the front nose. The car was of course repainted, before my time. It wasn't a horrible paint job, but it wasn't top of the line. Overall on the outside, like I said, it looks really good from 5ft, but if you start examining it, you will find the imperfections. There is a chip in the windshield, it is right behind the rearview mirror, so you don't see it. The inside is really nice. There are really nice Lloyd floor mats. There are a couple cracks in the dash, but they should be repairable, the dash is not dried out. The clock is broken. A little of the vinyl on the roof is undone around the sunroof. A very easy quick fix, I just never got around to it. Everything else is in really good condition. The stereo is awesome and is the best part of the car to me since none of my other cars have a setup like this. There is a JBL 10inch teardrop sub that sits in the seat behind the driver. And an amp to drive it. Everything just sits in place, nothing was cut to put it in. You can remove is all in 5 minutes if you want. You can really crank it up and feel the base. I was planning on keeping this car forever. But I just don't have the time anymore to keep it up. I mentioned a few things that it could use and generally I would have gotten right on those, but I just don't have the time. It would be better for someone else to take over and keep up on this car. I think the car is fairly priced. You can buy one cheaper, but you will quickly put more money into it. Just think if you need tires, that is $700 alone. You can buy one that is much nicer, but it will be twice the price. I can't remember every little thing about the car so it is sold as-is and you should come and inspect it for yourself. I have owned six 944's. A few were ones that I bought on Ebay and was disappointed with after I bought them so I resold them. This turbo is my keeper, it has the best parts on it and is in better condition than 95% of the 944's out there. |

Porsche 911 GT1 Evo up for grabs in Monaco valued at $3M
Thu, Mar 10 2016On paper, Porsche didn't do a flagship supercar in between the 959 and the Carrera GT. In reality, it did. Sort of. It was the strassenversion of the 911 GT1, a homologation special based on a spectacularly successful racing car. And RM Sotheby's has a standout example consigned for its upcoming sale in Monaco. What you're looking at is a 911 GT1 Evolution that served as the mid-point in the GT1's development, following the original and followed in turn by the GT1-98 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year. One of just fourteen 911 GT1s held in public hands, chassis number GT1 993-117 won the Canadian GT Championship three years running, and is the only GT1 Evo that was ever registered for use on public roads. RM Sotheby's anticipates that it will fetch between $2.9 and $3.25 million when it crosses the auction block in May, marking the first time that this particular example has come up for auction. That would make it considerably more valuable than the GT1 Evo Gooding & Company sold at Amelia Island in 2012 for $1.26 million, according to Sports Car Market. Of course, the Porsche isn't the only notable item the auction house has lined up for the sale during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend. There's a pair of 1930s German convertibles – one Mercedes 540 K and one Horch 670 – valued at about the same level as the 911 GT1, a Tucker 48 (~$1.6m), and Niki Lauda's debut March 711 grand prix racer (~$550k). Those are some tempting sets of wheels, and we'll be watching to see how they fare two months from now.
1978 Porsche 930 in Australia spans generations on Petrolicious
Wed, Feb 24 2016Deryck Shakespeare grew up around his father's Porsches, and inherited a white 1978 930 from his uncle just before the relative's death. Now, it looks like the turbocharged coupe might go to Shakespeare's son someday, as this latest video from Petrolicious' highlights a family bond that spans three generations. Shakespeare's Porsche still looks lovely, and it barks a wonderful burble from the exhaust, too. Driving it, however, can be a handful. There're no power steering or electronic aids, and the engine has lots of power and turbo lag. "The technology isn't in the car to cope with the amount of horsepower," he says in the video. Since owning it, Shakespeare and his son have bonded over the Porsche. Deryck plans to hand over the 930 to his boy someday when he's ready to handle this tricky kind of automobile. His son even saves his allowance to upgrade the interior. With that attitude, he should make a great owner someday... just like his dad. Related Video:
Audi spearheads development of an ultra-luxurious EV code-named Landjet
Tue, Nov 17 2020The rumors claiming Audi wants to release a model positioned above the A8, and the reports of an ongoing electric car development program called Artemis internally, have seemingly converged. Citing sources inside the carmaker, a German media outlet reported the firm is busily creating a super-luxurious EV code-named Landjet. Audi is leading the development process, but sister companies Bentley and Porsche will reportedly receive their own version of the Landjet. All three models will likely take the form of three-row SUVs with generous dimensions. They'll be so big that none of Audi's production facilities will be able to manufacture them, according to an anonymous insider who spoke with German newspaper Handelsblatt. Luckily, Volkswagen makes vans, too. It's too early to tell what will power the Landjets. Audi assigned some of its most brilliant engineers to Project Artemis, and the technology they develop will permeate the three EVs before trickling down into cheaper models in the group. Expect high performance, a high driving range, and semi-automated driving technology. If the report is accurate, the Landjet vehicles will enter production in Hanover, Germany, by the end of 2024. The facility currently makes the Volkswagen Transporter, which is a direct descendant of the rear-engined Bus sold for decades, and it will start manufacturing the production version of the ID.Buzz concept in the coming years. Volkswagen hasn't commented on the report, and car companies rarely address speculation, but its Commercial Vehicles division released a statement in November 2020 that confirms the Hanover site will begin building SUVs about halfway through the 2020s. It's a major shift for a factory normally tasked with manufacturing vans. "Our main plant in Hanover is becoming the production site for three completely new premium electric vehicles in the Group. These D-SUVs are genuine flagship projects: premium, 100% electric, and highly automated," said Carsten Intra, the head of Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles division, in a statement. He added the firm will invest about 680 million euros (about $807 million) to build a new assembly line, among other upgrades.
