1984 Porsche 944 No Reserve on 2040-cars

For sale is my 1984 944. I'm moving in two weeks and need it gone. Any REASONABLE offer will be considered. It is drivable in it's current condition, but there are a couple of issues too.
It ran great, that is until the first person who test drove it beat the bejesus out of the clutch. Now it still drives, however when I exceed about 3500/4000 RPM, the clutch will occasionally slip. The other mechanical issue is the power steering which, when the vehicle is still cold, is sometimes noisy and annoying. There are over $2000 in parts alone that I've put in during the past 2 years, including the important and expensive timing belt service (only 1,000 miles ago). Also within the past 1500 miles I have replaced the rear shocks, oil, coolant, transmission gear oil, all spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, fuel and oil filter, some old faulty relays, upper speed reference sensor, clutch master cylinder (replaced 100 miles ago), and I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting at the moment. I have the receipts for nearly everything that I've put into it during the past 4 years that I've owned it, and some extra parts and stuff that I've collected while owning 944's. Some of the freebies you'd get include a Haynes manual, new front struts, extra updated power steering line, fuel filter, fuel line between tank and filter, two extra front brake calipers, extra fuses and relays, transmission fluid plugs and a new set of floor mats. This particular porsche has been taken well care of mechanically while it was my daily driver, but as I'm just a student, I haven't been able to replace EVERYTHING that needs replacing. As I mentioned, the clutch just started to slip, the power steering pump is noisy, the rear hatch locks need to be adjusted to operate the automatic hatch release appropriately, there is a different key for both the front door locks, and depending on the weather the passenger window sometimes doesn't want to work (maybe corrosion inside one of the window switches..?). I also have the original Blaupunkt radio in a box that you can have, but it isn't currently installed as I live in an area where I don't feel comfortable leaving it installed without driving the car on a regular basis. I'm not willing to ship it, as I have WAY too much on my plate as it is at the moment, however if you want to make those arrangements, that would be fine. This car is also being listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction any time if it sells. On Apr-25-14 at 20:20:15 PDT, seller added the following information: *UPDATE* Since creating this listing, I have driven the car to try and see if there is anything that I was missing on the listing. And I found that even when I tried, I could NOT get the clutch to slip on me anymore. I don't know if it was just driven too hard by the last test driver and got hot, or what the deal is, but as of right now, the clutch IS NOT slipping in any gear through any range of RPMs. I'm not going to relist the car to try and get more money, but it is a hopeful sign that the car is in better condition than I thought. VW Group plan puts Porsche in charge of a 'super-premium' division
Tue, Sep 11 2018An Automobile report looks into what's happening on the organizational and technical sides of the Volkswagen Group, and what those changes could mean for the premium brands. The wide-angle view is that Porsche appears to have been anointed to "coordinate the future activities" at Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Audi would cede Lamborghini guardianship to Stuttgart, and Ducati — via a new concern called Ducati Enterprises — would become the shepherd for VW's other Italian investments. Executives target Jan. 1, 2019, to complete the reshuffle. VW wants to save a boodle by tying up four of its five top-tier brands, and putting the one with the highest ROI in charge. Porsche, within its own house, wants to reduce expenditures by $2.3 billion per year over for four years, the savings already earmarked for improving internal processes like R&D and production. Having Porsche share those gains as well as lead development of platforms, components and future-tech strategies for the sister sports car brands could benefit everyone. In the near-term, the brands have their own plans: Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann is said to want a Chiron Superleggera, a roofless and "completely reskinned" Chiron Aperta, and a track-only Chiron SS. The Superleggera could take the Chiron Sport's and Divo's Jenny Craig routines even further. The Aperta seems a natural successor to the Veyron Grand Sport, a natural evolution of the recently introduced Sky View roof, and a reskin might include numerous Divo cues. It's also said Bugatti's considering "an all-electric high-end model" in conjunction with Porsche, Rimac, and Dallara, but name one supercar or hypercar manufacturer that isn't considering a lightning-fast EV. Lamborghini, deep into work on follow-ups for the Huracan and Aventador, might get a bit of a bump with the new plan. The carbon "monofuselage" for the next V12 flagship is said to be too far developed and too complex to scrap. It puts two electric motors on the front axle, batteries in the middle, and a naturally aspirated V12 with around 770 horsepower plus another e-motor with 402 horsepower in back. The Huracan is said to get a version of the same carbon architecture at the moment, but the corporate reorganization might press pause on it. Automobile says options include continuing the Huracan/ Audi R8 twinning, but that depends on Audi saying "Ja" to a third-gen R8 with Lamborghini bones.
It's time for Corvette to attack Porsche
Fri, Jun 26 2015For most of its existence, Porsche was a smug little sports car company with a fairly limited lineup and small but steady sales. Any time the company strayed from its air-cooled, rear engine formula, the purists would turn their noses. The 944? The 948? "Not a proper Porsche," they'd sniff. And then came the greatest sin of them all: the Cayenne. To the purists, this was treason. Porsche making an SUV? Horrors! Of course, you all know how it turned out. Porsche grew to be a profit-generating juggernaut within the Volkswagen Group. And since one SUV wasn't enough they added another, the Macan. By the end of the decade Porsche will have quadrupled its global sales. You have to wonder what else it has up its sleeve. Couldn't this be a lesson for General Motors? It has a terrific sports car brand in Corvette. In fact, it's arguably the most iconic brand within GM's full-line portfolio. But for its entire existence that brand has been locked up within Chevrolet. Maybe it's time for GM to treat Corvette as a stand-alone company. Maybe it's time for GM to unlock that brand and treat Corvette as a stand-alone company. A Corvette SUV could be a killer first step. Since Porsche only makes two SUVs, maybe Corvette could make three. Small, medium, and large. And just as Porsche has the Panamera, an executive sedan from team Corvette could become an instant "gotta-have" for the yacht-buying jet set. Of course, the Corvette purists will cringe. And the biggest hue and cry will come from Chevrolet's US dealers. That's why the best place to launch the new Corvette brand would be far away from those franchisees: in China. Chinese consumers have no pre-conceived ideas that 'Vettes can only be sold in Chevy stores. And Chinese enthusiasts very much admire Corvette's historic pedigree. You've no doubt read about how Chinese authorities are cracking down on conspicuous consumption. That makes the timing even better. Corvette's selling point has always been that it is an amazing bargain for the performance you get. What a perfect way to undercut Porsche. In fact, pairing the Corvette brand with Cadillac in China could be just the shot in the arm that Cadillac's Chinese dealers need. Despite having very competitive cars, Cadillac lags far behind Audi, Mercedes, and BMW. What Cadillac dealers need is a lot more showroom traffic. And a jaw dropping lineup of Corvette-branded vehicles could bring in throngs of buyers.

Tue, 27 Aug 2013How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. Ask Patrick Dempsey and he'll likely tell you the same secret for landing a role on a hit TV show or, for that matter, driving a Porsche in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
That's because, like McQueen and Newman, Dempsey has earned his place in that rarified field of actors who also race. He's competed in Baja and Grand-Am, co-owns an IndyCar team, and this year returned to Le Mans where he and his teammates Joe Foster and Patrick Long finished fourth in the GTE-Am class behind the wheel of their Porsche 911 RSR.
