For Sale is my prized 1989 Porsche 928GT. As I am sure you are aware the 928GT is one of the rarest Porshces to grace our shores. In 1989 and 1990 it is estimated that only 50 were imported. I have had the pleasure of owning two. This is a low mileage no excuses example with only 90k original miles and a very extensive and thorough service history and records. All of the 928 GT cars were manual transmission with special gearbox ratios to perfectly transfer power from the 330hp double overhead cam V8. It is truly a joy to drive and everything works as it should. The 928GT has many upgrades from the S4 including a new electronic limited slip, different tuning and camshafts, better gearbox and all of the upgrades from the club sport edition. This particular machine has had all of its service intervals complied with and it is ready for the road. The exterior of the car is very very clean. It is professionally detailed every month and you will not be able to find a spec of dirt anywhere. I have taken pictures of the door gaps and such so that you can see the attention to detail. The paint shines perfectly in full sun with no issues. the body work is nearly perfect with some slight imperfections in one rear fender well from some rock chips. there are also a couple small waves in the urethane bumpers in the corners. I could not get these imperfections to show up in my pictures. The interior is fantastic and beautiful black leather. The seats are firm and the electrics work well. The dash and gauge pod are nearly perfect. The seats carpet and floor mats are in great shape as well with no imperfections to report. The sunroof works well and the headliner and steering wheel are also in great shape. The pictures represent the car very well. I haven't seen a nicer 928 that is unrestored. The tool set is nearly complete and the the rear hatch includes the double mat carpet and the privacy shade as well as rear sunshades and rear AC. The engine bay is clean as a whistle and it has had extensive work done, including maroon powder coat on the valve covers and intake manifold. All required maintenance has been done including a new clutch at 80k miles and a new timing chain and regular tension checks. The transmission shifts flawlessly and the engine purrs at all RPMs. The suspension is tight and firm with recent dampers and an aftermarket sway bar. The tires and wheels are in good shape with the tires being around 4/32nds of tread depth. Brake pads are recent as well and a high performance racing compound. This car holds a clear Texas title although there was some repair history back in the late 90s. I do not have any repair information from that time but I can say that any repairs done to the car were done correctly and I have thoroughly inspected the machine in every nook and cranny. This car is stunning and it is the nicest 928 I have ever owned despite the blemish on its history. I have considered this in the pricing and I will allow some lucky buyer to enjoy owning a GT for a fraction of the normal GT prices. Bid with confidence and review my feedback. I am a car enthusiast and professional driver, racer, and instructor. This is a rare opportunity to own a 928GT and you will be thrilled with the condition of the car and enjoy every drive. Call me with questions, the car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Trades could be considered as well, but all must be approved prior to auction end. eGarage video features Helmuth Bott's personal Porsche 959 prototype
Fri, 12 Apr 2013"We thought we were going to build a super-911," said Peter Schutz, former CEO of Porsche AG of the development of the Porsche 959. That was before it started getting expensive. At that point, Helmuth Bott, Porsche R&D director got frightened. Costs ballooned because of the all-wheel drive, sequential turbocharging and other technology Porsche had never even thought about when it set out to build a 911 to compete in Group B. Schutz continued, "The amount of resources we were committing got totally out of hand." Instead of pulling the plug, Bott doubled down and drew on the strength of his brilliant team to build a car whose impact is still echoing aross the industry.
"It's probably one of our most prized possessions" says Don Leatherwood, Director of the Brumos collection where Dr. Bott's personal prototype resides, and where Frazer Spowart went to see the car and create a video for eGarage. Check out the sights and sounds of the 959 before it was the 959, and get personal takes on the car from Hurley Haywood, Peter Schutz and Don Leatherwood. Keep reading to see the video.
Porsche reviving 718 name for new Boxster and Cayman
Thu, Dec 10 2015The next-generation Boxster and Cayman are coming next year, and when they launch, they'll have a new name: 718. There's historical significance there – in 1957, Porsche launched the 718 racecar with a mid-mounted, four-cylinder engine. And when the new Boxster and Cayman come to market, they'll be powered by a new turbocharged, flat-four engine, mounted amidships just like in the current cars. That powertrain isn't a surprise, but the name change certainly is. Officially, the cars will be called 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, and Porsche says the two models "will share more similarities than ever before," both visually and mechanically. What's more, Porsche confirms the 718 Boxster will carry a higher price tag than the 718 Cayman, which is a switch from the company's current pricing strategy – right now, a base Cayman costs $500 more than a standard Boxster. Technical details haven't been confirmed yet, but an earlier report suggests the 2.0-liter flat-four will produce 240 horsepower in the base cars and 300 hp in the S models. GTS versions are tipped to produce as much as 370 hp from this same flat-four engine. Both 718 models will be unveiled throughout the course of 2016. Have a look below for Porsche's official statement. Related Video: Boxster and Cayman to be branded as 718 model range next yearPorsche's mid-engine sports cars to receive new name Atlanta, Georgia. The mid-engine sports cars from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG will be named 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, respectively, when the models are introduced over the course of 2016. The 718 designation is a reference to the ground-breaking sports car Porsche introduced back in 1957, which achieved great success in a number of renowned car races. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will share more similarities than ever before – both visually and technically. In the future, both will have equally powerful turbocharged flat-four cylinder engines. The Roadster will be positioned at a higher price level than the Coupe – as is the case with the 911 models. The 718 model range is driven by the four-cylinder concept and the history of distinguished Porsche sports cars. The latest example is the 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car, which is powered by a highly-efficient, turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine.
Porsche wants a better 'connected car' [UPDATE]
Fri, Mar 20 2015UPDATE: In an earlier version of this story we mistakenly identified Joe Lawrence as the CEO of Porsche Cars North America; Lawrence is in fact the Chief Operating Officer, COO, of PCNA. The text has been changed to reflect this. Porsche is known for great engineering, but it's usually the type that leads to fantastic engines and sublime handling, rather than cutting-edge infotainment systems. The company wants to alter that balance in the future to put a greater emphasis on connectivity in its models. Porsche Cars North America COO Joe Lawrence outlined the brand's goals during a speech at the Bloomberg Innovation Forum in Atlanta, according to Automotive News. "Recognizing the phone is so ubiquitous in every sector, how do we integrate that into driving experience in a way that is safe and enjoyable?" he said. Lawrence suggested the company might be working with Google and Apple on future solutions. Even if Porsche is working on making more tech savvy models, don't expect the company to forget its roots. Brand boss Matthias Muller also broached connectivity during his recent speech at a conference and said the sports car business' customers didn't want "a smartphone on four wheels." He promised investments in research and development to come up with an answer. In the same speech, Muller strongly suggested fully electric Porsche models were on the way and also announced a seventh model line coming in the future. Lawrence reiterated the company's future, as well, in his address. "We will see further electrification of our product line," he said, according to Automotive News. Rumors of Porsche building a Tesla-fighter have been circulating as of late. The vehicle is possibly in the body of the smaller Panamera called the Pajun, and it could offer a 300-mile range with an electric motor at each axle kicking out a reported total of 600 horsepower.
