THIS IS A NO RESERVE LISTING.

This is my 1984 Porsche 928S 5-speed in great collectible condition.  I've had this car for about a year; I've loved it, and now it is time for someone else to enjoy it.  I believe this is one of the finest 928S models for sale in the country.

I would not hesitate to drive this car to California and back. This is a reliable, dependable, great-driving car with no known mechanical problems.

The 928 is one of my all-time favorite Porsches.  This car was the pinnacle of design and technology that Porsche could acheive at the time.  The 928 was meant to replace the 911 and as a matter of fact, a 1984 928S beats a 1984 911 in every category, including horsepower, torque, acceleration, handling and braking.  Not to mention that the 928 is far more comfortable and luxurious than a 911.  The problem with the 928 was price.  It was something like $20,000 MORE expensive than a 911, and sales suffered for it.  Subsequent owners often failed to properly maintain these cars, and it is all too common to find horribly neglected and dilapidated 928s that require more work than they are worth.  Stay away from those cars- my car is NOT one of them!  This is a clean, original, well-kept, great-driving 928S that runs, drives and performs beautifully.

I bought this car for the rare 5-speed manual transmission more than anything else.  Only about 15% of all 928s were made with the manual transmission- the majority were automatics.  The problem with the automatic in my mind, is that in addition to being much less fun, it starts in second gear, meaning that the automatics were very slow off the line and functioned basically like a 3-speed.  The 5-speed manual, like in this car, is the only way to go if you're looking for an enthusiast's car.

This was the second model year for the higher-horsepower "S" model, and you can really tell the difference between the earlier 1978-1982 models and this car.

In the last few years the 928 has begun to get the respect that it deserves, and values have continued to climb and show no sign of stopping.  You could easily buy this car now, keep it for a few years, then sell it for a profit.

This car has the following equipment and options:

  • 4.7L all-aluminum V8 engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • leather seats
  • power driver's seat
  • power locks and windows
  • cruise control
  • tilt wheel
  • automatic climate control with A/C

This car has 17" wheels from a Porsche Boxster with good tires.  This change really updates the look of the car, in my opinion.  It makes the car look totally modern.  I took someone for a ride last week and they could not guess how old this Porsche was.  They were shocked when I said it was almost 30 years old!

This car starts, runs and drives great.  The V8 rumble is outstanding and will make your hair stand up.  I just replaced the transmission with a warranted unit (the synchros had begun to go bad) for a cost of $2500.  The transmission shifts great, and goes in and out of all gears, up and down, with no trouble.  The clutch is tight and the brakes are good.  The suspension is tight and stable, and this car feels right at home taking an entrance ramp curve at 80 mph.  This car is tight, stable, solid and drives VERY WELL.  There are no noted fluid leaks.

Included are the previous owners' receipts, paperwork and registrations.  There is a note indicating that the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 108,380 miles.  If you're a 928 enthusiast you know how important that is.

This car has what appears to be all-original paint.  The paint is in very good condition for being 29 years old, and looks good.  The body is straight and clean with no major flaws, dents or dings.  Of course the car is mostly aluminum, but still there is no noted body panel rust.  This car looks beautiful, clean and original; not messed-around-with.

The interior is original.  The leather seats are often a weak spot for these cars, and these seats have held up rather well, considering.  They are still in very presentable condition, not cracked, shredded or falling apart like you see so often.  The driver's outside seat bolster is worn thru a bit, and the seats do show their appropriate age, but otherwise the leather is all intact and in decent shape.  The cost to reupholster these 928 seats is about $2000, so be sure to buy a car with decent seats like mine, or be prepared to pay plenty.  The shift knob and shift boot are brand new.

Keep in mind this is a nearly 30 year old car and as such it is not brand new.  Please expect normal issues of wear and tear consistent with the age of the car.  Both headlights come up properly and work fine.  The HVAC temp controls and blower motor work fine, but the A/C doesn't blow cold and I haven't looked into it.  The entire A/C system is intact, so there is no reason it couldn't be made to work if someone wanted.  Both driver and passenger windows work properly.  The cruise does not appear to work.

This is probably one of the best 928S cars for sale in the country.  This is a clean, original, great-driving car that will be tons of fun for the new owner, not to mention a greatly appreciating investment.

This car is kept in my heated warehouse in Willoughby, OH.  You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively, you can have the car shipped, I highly recommend Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481.

This is a no reserve listing, but I have a number in my head that might buy the car now. Email/call me to discuss this possibility.

2015 24 Hours of Le Mans live race report

Sat, Jun 13 2015

Check back regularly for more race updates every few hours. No, you don't need to stay up for the entire 24 Hours of Le Mans, but if you want to catch any of the action, Autoblog friend Reilly Brennan has a handy guide. And to keep you up to speed on the latest race events, we'll be posting live from Le Mans with regular race reports.Hour 1: Five laps in, Audi breaks up the three Porsches at the front, with the #19 919 Hybrid, driven by Nico Hulkenburg, passed by all three R18s. Hulkenburg eventually took back fifth position only to fall back again after the first pit stop. Meanwhile, clutch trouble kept the #23 Nissan GTR-LM in the pits until 15 minutes into the race. The other two Nissans were forced to start at the back of the grid after failing to the meet the 110 percent qualifying speed regulation. At the end of the first hour, just 7.5 seconds separated the first six cars. Then the factory team #92 Porsche GTE car caught fire, with the the #13 Rebellion P1 car taking frontal damage in the ensuing carnage. With the safety car out, the field is once again bunched up.Hour 2: The slugfest between Audi and Porsche continues, with neither side backing off. Halfway through the second hour the #7 R18 passes both leading Porsches for the top position. After another round of pits stops Porsche regains the lead until lap 30, when the Audi overtake once again and quickly pulls out a three-second gap. Nico Hulkenburg passes the other two Audis to join his Porsche teammates. At the beginning of the third hour it's Audi #7, Porsche #17, #18, and #19, followed by Audi #8 and #9. 33 seconds separates this group, with Toyota a minute back from the front car.Hour 3: On track the action refuses to stop. Although it's early, Audi is looking strong with the overall lead in the #7. What's more is that the Audis run four stints per set of tires, while the Porsche cars have to change rubber every third stop. But after a quick refueling, the lead R18 gets a tire puncture and comes back in 3 laps later, allowing Porsche to take over the top two spots. Then as the hour closes out a yellow flag causes traffic to bunch up and the #8 Audi gets stuck with nowhere to slow down. Driver Loic Duval dives for the side of the road but hits the guard rail and careens across the track, damaging the front and rear bodywork. The rest of the car is still intact, though, and once in the pits Audi replaces the entire front and rear of that in only three minutes.

Porsche 918 Spyder already almost sold out?

Mon, 20 Oct 2014

Still planning on getting your hands on a Porsche 918 Spyder? You'd better act quickly, because word has it that the hybrid hypercar is nearly sold out.
While Porsche has reportedly only delivered a little over 30 of the 918 examples of the Spyder it plans to manufacture in total, Automotive News says that production is sold out through late March or early April - just a few months shy of when production is set to wrap in July.
That's pretty impressive for a car with a base price of almost $850,000, especially one requiring a $200,000 deposit just to get your name on the list. Still, that sum is significantly less than its competitors get for the McLaren P1 or LaFerrari, both of which sell for over a million (if you can actually get on one at that price), though in fairness, production of each is limited to less than half of the 918 Spyder.
