Up for auction is a metallic tan 1978 Porsche 928 with a 5 speed manual transmission. The car has 102,406 miles and has spend its entire life in Colorado, so there are no rust or corrosion concerns. It's a very solid car that just needs some TLC. The engine runs very smoothly with plenty of power and no major leaks. Many components on the fuel injection system have been replaced including the fuel distributor, both fuel pumps, the fuel accumulator, the warm up regulator and the fuel filter. The transmission seems okay. The clutch master and slave cylinders were recently replaced. The car was repainted about 10 years ago and it was definitely not a very good paint job. There are some runs in the paint, and the masking job was not very good, so the whole car needs to be stripped and repainted. In addition, there's a small dent and a deep score on the passenger side door and another small dent on the right rear bumper that happened when my dad had a little mishap getting it out of the garage one day. The current color is metallic tan. The car was originally dark brown. The front fog light trim on the driver's side is not the correct part for this car. The original got lost when the car was repainted. The interior of the car needs some serious attention. Both front and rear seats need to be reupholstered as they were destroyed by the sun. The dash is covered with an aftermarket fabric kit, as it too was decimated by the sun. The carpet is faded, but presentable. The headliner and trim in the back hatch area are also faded. My late father was in the process of installing new speakers in the doors. He put one big Pioneer speaker in the passenger door, but never got to the left door. I do have the original factory speaker as well the other Pioneer, so you can decide what to do with it. I went through the trouble of getting most of the interior electrical items to work as well as installing a new Kenwood/CD/Ipod/MP3 stereo unit. The ignition switch and cylinder are new, but are keyed differently than the hatch and doors. The AC system does not work. It probably needs to be recharged. The auto door locks and the headlight washers don't work. The tires are like new with very little mileage. Two of the Porsche center caps, however, are missing. This was my father's car, and unfortunately he passed away last year. The car sat for a few years, but I got it up and running in the last year or so. I've driven it around the neighborhood and everything seems to work properly. However, the car isn't currently registered, so I haven't really driven it on the highway or major streets. It would probably make it 30 or 40 miles up the interstate to Colorado Springs. Any further than that, and I would probably recommend hauling it or getting a transport service to get it home. With a paint job and interior TLC, it could be a very nice car.

Having spent three days with an intense Monterey sun above, a fleet of raucous, roaring racecars below, and a genuine library of hundreds of cars parked everywhere, Porsche Rennsport Reunion V can be summed up in one word: amazing. It's one thing to know today that Porsche is special because rich people buy them and collectors obsess over them. It's another thing to see and hear and feel and smell why Porsches are special, to experience what really makes a brand. Whenever auto writers use the word "pedigree" – usually in reference to brands that don't have it – this is what we mean. And we bathed in it for a weekend. Now we need to wash all of our clothes, because pedigree smells like race fuel. Porsche used all of the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca pit garages to set up an excellent display of important Le Mans cars, from the 1958 718 RSK to the current 919 Hybrid. All but one were overall or class winners, and four consecutive pit boxes held cars that were all in the movie Le Mans: a 1969 910, a 1969 917K, a 1970 908 LH "Flunder" Spyder, and a 1971 917 LH. Outside the garage on its own plinth was a 1949 Gmund 356 SL, the first Porsche to win an international motorsports race when it took its 110cc class at Le Mans in 1951. Walking from 1958 to 1998 and having all that history in the metal behind you, you could see why Porsche wanted to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to return to Le Mans with the 919 Hybrid to protect its legacy. Even with three full days we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see or talk to everyone we wanted to talk to. We could have spent days interviewing the Who's Who of racing drivers alone. But we did get to answer the questions you left for us in Comments after our 2017 911 Carrera ride-along: RoninEdge: The engineers had left by the time we got your Boxster/Cayman engine question, and the only answer we could get after that was the official Porsche line: "We haven't released any information on any 2017 models other than the four already mentioned," the 911 Carrera and Carrera S in coupe and cabriolet trims. Ferps: Posche North America decided to take the Targa off the website, but you can still buy 2016 models and there are still Targas on dealer lots. The 991.2 Targa hasn't been revealed yet. Ford Mustang outsold Audi TT and Porsche 911 in Germany

Despite being the antithesis of the cars Germany is known for, the new Ford Mustang was the best selling sports car in the land of schnitzel and beer last month by a whisker. The Mustang beat out the Audi TT by 780 units to 708, and it beat Germany's best known performance car, the Porsche 911, 780 to 752. That makes some sense, right? The Mustang has to be cheaper than those competitors, right? Not really. Both the EcoBoost and V8-powered Mustang have higher starting prices than the equivalent TT. The 2.3-liter, EcoBoost-powered Mustang starts at 38,000 euros (around $43,300 at today's rates), while the front-drive Audi TT starts at 35,950 euros (about $41,000). The V8-powered Mustang GT, meanwhile, starts at 43,000 euros (about $49,000), which is just 2,550 euros more than the Quattro-equipped TT. When 310 horsepower or 435 hp can be had for just a couple thousand more than 220 hp, it's easy to understand the Mustang's success. The 911, of course, is a lot more expensive than the Mustang. You can buy two Mustang GTs for the price of a single Carrera. But Ford also managed to beat out the Porsche's smaller siblings, the Boxster and Cayman twins, which sold a combined 642 vehicles. Again, the pony car is significantly cheaper, but that doesn't do much to lessen the impact of the Mustang's victory. If you're in Germany and are concerned about this American invasion, you shouldn't be (yet). The TT is Germany's best-selling sports car from January through March, with 2,299 to the Ford's 1,823. Porsche is breathing down the pony car's neck, too, with 1,811 units in 2016. It'll be interesting to see if Ford's successful March carries on into the rest of 2016. Related Video:

Hyundai, Porsche top J.D. Power APEAL study

Just as they did in the Initial Quality Study, Porsche and Hyundai have taken the premium and non-premium crown, respectively, for the 2014 J.D. Power APEAL study. This is the tenth consecutive year for that Porsche has been rated the best premium make in the APEAL study, which attempts to figure out how pleased owners are with their purchases. For 2014, it asked 86,000 owners of MY2014 cars to rate their vehicles in 77 different categories 90 days after their initial purchase. The resulting figures were plugged in deliver the APEAL score, which is rated on a 1,000-point scale. The industry average sits at 794 points for 2014, although that's a one-percent decline over last year's rating. In this year's study, premium brands averaged 840 out of 1,000, while non-premium makes average 785. For their part, Porsche netted an impressive 882 points, while Hyundai earned an 804. Interestingly, only four non-premium brands (Hyundai, Ram, Volkswagen and Mini) finished above the industry average for 2014. It's also interesting to see the clear delineation between premium and non-premium brands, with an eight-point gap between the non-premium champ, Hyundai, and the lowest-rated premium brand, Volvo. Porsche and Hyundai weren't the only automakers to take home recognition. Dodge managed to tie Porsche for the most segment awards, with three. The Challenger, Charger and Dart all topped their market. There were a number of two-segment winners, as well, with Audi, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan capturing a pair of segments each.
