30K miles on this car -- and it shows. This car has been in the family since bought new in September, 1987. Doubt that you can find a nicer one. The interior is like new. Never wrecked or damaged. Body is 100% straight. These cars used galvanized body panels -- no rust. Has been garaged always. This was a second car for my wife's father. It was rarely driven and has never seen snow or salt. It's been sitting in our garage since November, 2009. (Purchased new in Cincinnati. Was in Lexington, Ky till July, 2004 and then in Las Vegas till October, 2009) Has been driven less than 200 miles in the last 4 years. This car needs to go to someone that will drive it and appreciate a great example of the Porshe 924S.
2 problems the 924S is known for: the dash cracks on top and the odometer strips a gear and quits working if you push the trip meter while the car is moving. The dash is cracked on top. We have a pad for it that fits great but not shown in the pics. It's still new and we never used it. The odometer quit working June 2002 when it read 20,141 miles. He kept a notebook in the car and maintained a meticulous record of every time he fueled up. Also includes notes about maintenance and some comments about trips made out of town. Page one starts with the day it was picked up from the dealer. On page 16, it's noted that the odometer is "stuck" at 20,141. Page 21 ends when it was shipped to us with a calculated mileage of 28,120. The car was being driven an average of ~1400 miles per year through 2002 and much less after 2004 when they moved to Vegas. In addition to the notes, the condition of the car bears this out. I will share excerpts with interested parties and a full copy of the notebook goes with the car. The clear title reflects the odometer discrepancy. The car starts, runs and drives great. Handles like a new one. Original Blaupunkt stereo with cassette player. Dash clock works. Seats look like new. Power Sunroof functions and can tilt open or completely remove the center section. I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. Clutch feels great. Brakes are good. All doors and hatches are solid and smooth. All lights work. Power mirrors and windows. Nice Pirelli tires. Original manuals included. The original Porsche air compressor kit, like new, included. Has retractable cover to conceal packages or contents of hatchback area. Has original sunroof storage cover. New floormats installed in 2010 still like new. Has a new battery within the last 2 months. There are a couple small paint chips on the front air dam area as can be seen in the pics. You could drive this car to a car show tomorrow. It's hard to believe that this car qualifies for historical tags. We thought it would be fun but turns out we're pretty spoiled by our automatic transmissions and don't have the time to enjoy it. It's not being driven at all and needs a new home. If you're a Porsche 924S fan, you need to see this one. I'll try to answer all questions from serious people that know what they're looking at. Will be travelling some so please be patient if I can't get right back to you. Can be inspected in Central Ohio by appointment. Car is located NW of Columbus, OH near zip code 43044. No joy-rides, but I will get it out for serious buyers. Obviously, there is no warranty on the car and it's sold as-is. $200 deposit due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end. Balance due within 7 days by cash, wire transfer, money order, or bank check. All checks clear bank before vehicle is transferred. Local pickup preferred. Buyer is responsible for any shipping arrangements after sale is completed. Reserve the right to end the auction early if sold locally and outside of ebay. Known Issues: -- Due to age it is recommended that the timing belt and water pump be replaced. They also recommend the oil cooler seal be replaced. I attempted to replace the water pump. Was planning to replace the timing belt also. We removed the thermostat from the water pump housing and discovered that we didn't have the correct thermostat to replace it. The timing belt looked great and though it's supposed to be a simple job, I decided that working on this German metric car was not my strength. We reconnected the radiator hose, put it back together and left the thermostat out. -- One of the aquastats that control the electric cooling fan motor needs replaced. It was stuck ON at one point so the radiator fan ran continuously. Later, it switched OFF and wouldn't come on. The fans are good and both run when the AC control is turned ON. Looks like the aquastat just screws into the radiator end-cap. -- AC needs to be charged. The compressor runs smooth but was not blowing cool. -- The gas shock struts that hold the hood open are weak. -- There is a stain on the carpet in the hatchback area. We've not tried to clean it so not sure if it will come out easily or not. -- The car has the nice "phone dial" wheels. At some point, someone decided to scrub them with an abrasive. They need to be refinished or painted to look bright again. -- The windshield washer pump was replaced with a universal pump of the same size and design. As far as I know, that's the only part on this car that's not original or authentic. MISC. Repair info: -- Clutch was replaced in May, 2004 -- Brakes work was done in May, 2004 -- Has always had oil changes done on schedule based on time -- Upper and Lower radiator hoses replaced December 2010 -- New battery September 2013 Parts that go with the car: -- New CRP-Contitech camshaft (Timing) belt and Gates Balance Shaft Belt -- Balance Shaft Locking Bar from Pelican Parts -- Hamburg Technic brand Water pump -- CRP Cooling / coolant hose. Water pump to heater return pipe -- timing belt tensioning tool -- Offset timing belt wrench -- Kricket v-belt tension gauge -- Oil cooler seal/gasket -- Facet ignition rotor -- Water pump gasket and thermostat gaskets |

VW could fight Uber Black with Porsche and Audi vehicles
Fri, Jun 3 2016Last week, the Volkswagen group dumped $300 million into Gett, a taxi hailing-cum-ride sharing app that's big outside of the US. Now, the company has revealed that it's pondering a rival to Uber Black by offering private drivers access to its higher-end vehicles. Details are scarce since it's a single line reference in a very long press release, but VW says that it's looking at a "special chauffeur service" that features "premium brands, such as Audi and Porsche." What that looks like in reality is anyone's guess, although the idea of getting ferried around in an Audi RS 7 does have some appeal. The deal with Gett will concentrate on getting Volkswagen cars into the hands of Gett's drivers with the promise of juicy discounts. For instance, the firm will offer a special package that'll bundle car insurance and servicing with the purchase price, which can be paid by a would-be operator in installments. It's a similar deal to the one that Uber offers would-be drivers, letting them buy cars from manufacturers like Volkswagen, Ford and Toyota at a discount. Uber, however, also lets prospective cabbies rent their vehicle on a monthly basis, thanks to a deal with Enterprise. Both of which will likely become more muscular now that Uber has a further $3.5 billion in its back pocket. The troubling fact for the auto industry is that people will still need cars, but it's likely that they won't need as many as they do right now. On-demand services and self-driving vehicles are, after all, intended to shuttle around cities like an ersatz taxi-cum-metro system rather than sitting in parking lots. The concepts of ownership that we currently hold dear (and the profits that car companies get from them) are likely to fade away in the next, say, fifty years time. As such, conglomerates like VW will have to reinvent themselves as both manufacturer and transport company in one. But these changes are never easy, especially when the biggest car firms have tons of baggage that slows down their progress. Many are still devoting time and resources to producing thousands of new cars with combustion engines that will be on the roads for years to come. Looming in the shadow, however, is the emissions scandal, with the financial and reputational penalties likely to be felt for years to come. Younger, more nimble rivals without legacy businesses, like Tesla, are working on mass-producing electric cars for mass-market prices.
Autoblog Minute: VW Q3 financial woes, 2015 Tokyo Motor Show
Fri, Oct 30 2015Consumer Reports pulls its Tesla recommendation, the U.S. Copyright Office offers a ruling affecting car owners, VW gets hit hard with third-quarter losses, and lots of exciting news from Tokyo. Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Consumer Reports pulls its Tesla recommendation, the U.S. copyright office offers a ruling that affects car owners and gear heads, VW gets hit hard with third-quarter losses, and lots of exciting news from Tokyo. I'm senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. After a week away testing vehicles for Autoblog's Tech of the Year award, we're back in the office to recap the week in automotive news. [00:00:30] One of the things you might have missed was Consumer Reports pulling its recommendation of Tesla's Model S sedan. The blemish for Tesla comes after a tally of reviews from customer surveys. The most common problem areas for the Model S as cited by survey takers included: the drivetrain, power equipment, charging equipment, body and sunroof squeaks, rattles, and leaks. So lots of stuff. Though they could not ignore a score of "worse-than-average", Consumer Reports still [00:01:00] highlighted the fact that the Model S was "the best performing car" they've ever tested. Telsa CEO Elon Musk took to social media to defend his sedans saying: "Consumer Reports reliability survey includes a lot of early production cars. Already addressed in new cars." And, "Tesla gets top rating of any company in service. Most important, CR says 97% of owners expect their next car to be a Tesla (the acid test)." In Financial news, Volkswagen took a hit and reported an operating loss of [00:01:30] $3.84 billion. This is the first such loss for VW in 15 years. Toyota reclaimed the crown as the world's largest automaker as well. It's important that it's not all doom and gloom for VW though in Q3. Sales revenues were up and the company's automotive division boasts $30 billion dollars in liquid assets. It's a sizable war chest that will no doubt come in handy, as the company has yet to feel the full brunt of the diesel emissions scandal. Good news for gear heads. The US copyright office [00:02:00] ruled in favor of mechanics and car owners by granting an exception to existing copyright law. The law was originally meant to prevent software pirating and bootlegging of Hollywood movies.
