This is a 1978 Porsche 924 built by Bill Katz (Katz Klassics)in the mid 90s.  I visited with Bill, a well know car builder, before I purchased the car last year.  Bill said he put the "best of the best" in the car for his wife to race at the track.  You can check out his e bay store and his website to see some of his items.  Bottom line is this car was built by an expert and is a ton of fun to take to the track.  I wanted to get started in road track driving and found the car for sale last year in Minnesota.  I invested some money to go through the brake system (replaced rear brake hoses), 4 wheel alignment for the track and had a general overall tune up to run at the track including; New Inner Wheel and Outer Wheel Bearings and a new strut to replace one that was leaking.  This car had no problem passing track inspection and I ran it last September.
Visiting with Bill regarding what he put into the car, he recently told me:  Turbo fuel pump, Audi 5cy turbo fuel pressure valve regulator, throttle body was ported out, adjustable cam gear, Ansa exhaust system off turbo model.  He also lowered the car with a spring kit.

Other details I know about the car:
  • 2.0 single overhead cam,
  • Long tube headers,
  • Wiseco Pistons 0.50 over,
  • 79 transmission for shorter gear ratio,
  • KYB shocks,
  • Procar by Scat Race Seat
  • 5 Point harness and OEM 3 point on driver and passenger sides
  • MSD wires
  • Platinum Plugs
  • MSD Coil
  • Motor painted to match the color of car
  • Very little rust - must have been stored over the years
  • Manual fan switch
  • BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires - Same tire Bill put on the car in the 90s.  They have plenty of tread left.
  • Roll Cage
  • Working turn signals, lights and brake lights
I will also include RARE 14" Hoosier race slicks that have 3 laps on them, a total of five additional tires for track use that are basically NEW.  I purchased from a dealer who witnessed the three test laps run in Wisconsin.  From the pictures you will see extra rubber that the tires picked up because it was a very hot that day but they basically have 100% tread on them as you can see from the pictures.  Each of these tires would retail around $200.00.  I stored the tires off the rims for the winter in a climate controlled environment.   In addition, I will include 5 extra original Porsche rims.    Tires and wheels are shown in pictures.  I put a reserve on it but it is rather low.

Really looking forward to running this car at the track this summer and don't want to sell but I need to make room for the other toys.  It is a great car to get into road track with.  Handles great and has enough speed to keep it interesting.

What's the deal with comedians and their cars?

Mon, May 22 2017

'Round about the time in his life when it should happen for all of us, Jerry Seinfeld's ship came in with a force that almost split the dock. He'd been doing pretty well with his observational style ("There's a cereal now that's just cookies. Have you seen this? Cookies for breakfast. It's called Cookie Crisp. Cookies for breakfast! They oughta just call it 'To Hell With Everything!'"). But he showed no signs of setting the world on fire until he got cast in a show that was either about – depending on the level of comedy geek you ask – the average New Yorker, the very worst people in the world, or nothing. Suddenly Jerry Seinfeld was pretty much the center of the comedy universe. And while his comedy was at once both brilliantly innovative and rooted in the mundane, his next move was a predictable grab at something exotic – he went out and bought his dream car. A rather nice 911, actually. As almost everyone knows, it didn't stop there, and the man put together one of the most enviable collections of iconic Porsches we're likely to see. So what's the connection, if there is one, between cars and comedy? As far as Jerry Seinfeld (the man) is concerned, he's probably not the same guy as the Jerry on Seinfeld (the show) although it's hard to say for sure; his public persona is almost unnervingly well managed. But cars and comedy were the constants in his life then, and, well, just look at what the guy does now; Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a cultural constant, and we're certainly seeing Seinfeld the man in that one, and cars are obviously still central to his life. And it's been that way with a lot of very, very good comedy guys. Cars seem to round out their lives, to become the yin to their comedy yang. Ernie Kovacs might not have invented visual gags or surreal humor, but he got them both to kill on television in the 1950s, so he's a comedy hero. He died behind the wheel of his beloved Corvair wagon, so he's absolutely some kind of car-guy hero as well. Bill Cosby, the hottest name in comedy for a good long while, had Ferraris, one of two fire-breathing supercharged big-block Cobras (pictured below), and a BMW 2002tii – none of which either contributed to or in any way make up for the profoundly sociopathic creature he turned out to be, but it's still a data point. The Smothers Brothers, who defied the networks and the norms by getting blatantly political before that sort of thing was cool, went sports car racing.

Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid gets $3,400 price cut in Canada

Tue, Nov 10 2015

It's about $2,560 to you and me, pilgrim. Porsche is cutting the price of its Panamera S E-Hybrid by $3,400 for our neighbors to the north. In US dollars, that's a haircut of about $2,560. Of course, the premium SUV plug-in hybrid is no bargain, even in Canadian dollars. The sticker price now comes in at C$106,000 for the parallel plug-in hybrid. Granted, the car is a beast, and represents one heck of an effort for the German luxury-vehicle maker to hop aboard the green-car train, however little sales they derive from it. The model delivers 416 horsepower from its V6 gas-powered engine and electric motor. So while that's good for a fuel-economy rating (here in the States, at least) of 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), the car also has a top speed of 167 miles per hour. Think Montreal to Toronto in two hours and change, if the roads are empty. And not frozen. And have no speed limit. Stateside, the plug-in Panamera has been selling in pretty low volumes. The model, including the gas-powered version, moved about 4,200 units through the first 10 months of the year, or about 10 percent of Porsche's total. Through October, sales of the plug-in only were down 55 percent from a year earlier to just 358 units, so one shouldn't expect a flood of them to be sold because of the three-percent discount. Still, a price cut certainly beats a snowshoe to the head. Take a look at Porsche's press release below. Porsche Canada realigns pricing of its plug-in premium sports sedan 2016 Panamera S E-Hybrid now starts at $106,600 MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Porsche Canada announced today that it had lowered the starting price of the Panamera S E-Hybrid for 2016 model year, effective immediately. The first plug-in hybrid vehicle in the luxury segment will now be offered starting at $106,600 – a reduction of $3,400 compared to the 2015 model year. This adjustment effectively brings the price in alignment with that of the Panamera S. Now, the Panamera S E-Hybrid represents an even more compelling choice in the segment, offering such quintessential Porsche traits as style, performance, quality, and impressive efficiency of its advanced powertrain. The hybrid tradition at Porsche extends back to the year 1899 and to the Lohner Porsche – the world's first vehicle to have a battery-powered electric drive as well as a combustion engine, which was designed and built by Ferdinand Porsche.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS looks wicked, this way comes

Thu, Dec 11 2014

Those who didn't think Porsche went extreme enough with the latest 911 GT3 likely won't be disappointed when the more focused GT3 RS arrives. And as you can see from these latest spy shots, it looks like it's speeding right around the corner. Tipped to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is shaping up to be an enthusiast's dream - and with the prospect of a GT2 in doubt, could be the most hardcore Elfen in the range. Instead of the 3.8-liter flat-six in the current GT3, the new RS will pick up where the previous limited-edition GT3 RS 4.0 left off, with four naturally aspirated liters of unadulterated boxer power channeling a good 520 horses to the rear wheels. That will be a significant increase over the existing 475-hp GT3 and will match the 911 Turbo for output (if not the 560-hp Turbo S) and without any turbo lag to slow down the action, either. Whether it will keep the GT3's dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel steering system, or ditch one or both for a more analog approach, remains to be seen, but we're holding out hope. Either way, the modifications to the bodywork ought to make the GT3 RS stand out even further and stay glued to the race track it will call home. Notice the deep front splitter scooping up snowflakes like a shovel, a massive rear wing (which may or may not be the final production version), the Turbo-spec rear end with air intakes ahead of the rear wheels, and a set of awesome-looking gills over the front wheels – all of which you can scope out in the gallery full of spy shots above.
