Porche 914 Targa - Air Conditioned - Daily Driver on 2040-cars
Boca Raton, Florida, United States
73 Porsche 914 2.0, Arizona & Florida car rust free.
I have included lots of pictures, if you want a picture of any particular part of the car let me know and I'll be happy to send a hi-res photo. Vehicle Description This auction is for a 1973 Porsche 914 This rust free car has the following original factory options:
History The car lived in Arizona until 1994 and was originally purchased from Camelback Porsche (the Camelback Porche licence plate frame is included). The car was then stored until 1997, when it began an extensive 3 year long restoration. The car was purchased in 2002 and shipped to Florida where it has been in an air conditioned garage to date. Paint and Body This car was completely disassembled in 1997. The front & rear trunks, engine compartment, and passenger compartments were all sanded down and an epoxy primer was applied to prohibit rust. Then painted with a urethane top coat, and finished with concept 2020 clear coat. The body was completely stripped to metal, epoxy primered, then a coat of two part K36 sandable primer, guide coated, sealed with epoxy sealer, then top coated with urethane paint and clear coated with concept 2020 clear coat. All paint products used were high quality PPG products. The stripe was painted first then taped off and then the body was painted. The clear coat was applied over both the stripe and the red body at the same time so the stripe is inside the paint and cannot be felt. The gauge face plate also has the stripe painted on it. This creates a great visual effect from behind the wheel. The front and rear valances, rocker panels, side sails and top were all sanded, primed, and painted with high gloss paint and concept 2020 clear. Engine and Drive-train The 2.0 case, crank, connecting rods, and heads were sent to Zim's Autotechnik in Texas for inspection and rebuilding. The case was align bored and the connecting rods were rebuilt with new piston end bushings and cap bolts. The crank was within specification and required no attention. The heads got new phosphorus bronze valve guides pressend in, new valve tappets, new stainless intake valves, and new sodium filled exhaust valves. The head was fly-cut for a new sealing surface. The core heads had no cracks and didn't need to be repaired. New pistions and cylinders were used as well as a new Webcam cam and lifter set. The original fuel injection-was refurbished and installed. Stainless steel heat exchangers and a new factory 73-74 muffler was installed. The engine starts quick, runs cool and wonderfully smooth. Air Conditioning Aftermarket air conditioning was professionally installed in 2003 by Black Forest in Fort Lauderdale FL. The original air duct has been removed (but saved) and replaced with a double vent located on the passenger side. I got sick of hitting my knees on it and it covered part of the center console and, it's such a small interior there is no need for such an elaborate ventilation system. I realize that Porsche purists may frown on added AC but in South Florida it's an absolute necessity. Other Extras include:
Vehicle Condition This is one of the nicest 1973 914's you will find. It has approximately 8,000 miles on it since its restoration. Its restoration missed no important details to make it a terrific daily driver and a show car on weekends. Its minor defects include: the top paint is cracking in a few areas, and very minor dings on doors and panels. Minor damage to the upper left corner of the driver's side seat caused by a a teething puppy, bad doggie! The 2.0 engine came from a 1976 2.0 with 76K original miles on it before it was rebuilt. The mileage is approximate due to the odometer not functioning. Other than these things, it is truly in wonderful condition. A nice find for the true 914 enthusiast, a great daily driver or weekend racer. Editors' Picks June 2024: Some German SUVs and an excellent sports car
Fri, Jul 5 2024This month sees some recently-refreshed luxury SUVs join the list of Editors' Picks. Both the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne are fresh for 2024, and both are extremely tempting luxury performance SUVs for the well-off buyer. The vast array of powertrains available for both of them ensure there's a version for all comers, and any enthusiast would adore the extra-high-performance versions of both. Of course, enthusiasts will enjoy the last car on this month's list the most with the Lotus Emira. It's simply spectacular to drive, and we can't recommend it enough to the hardcore driver. In case you missed previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. You'll find the entire list of Editors' Picks at this link here, which we keep updated as cars are either added or dropped from the list. The vehicles youÂ’ll find below consist of every car we rated in June that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2024 BMW X5 2024 BMW X5 M Competition View 41 Photos Quick take: The X5 is most desirable in its PHEV and M60i V8 trims, but the whole lineup is extremely competent and brings together excellent performance, excess luxury and cutting-edge tech for its segment. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, Maserati Levante, Genesis GV80, Audi Q8 Pros: Superb to drive with knockout powertrains; excellent utility and creative features; styling is sporty and attractive but not over the top Cons: Infotainment system can be a pain; M Competition model is a little over the top; gets pricey quick with options From the editors: Senior Editor, Electric John Beltz Snyder — "I really like the dual-opening liftgate/tailgate combo. The liftgate portion up top opens quickly, allowing you to throw something inside or grab something out of the back. Flipping down the lower tailgate part gives you a nice place to sit and change shoes. Another benefit is that you can open the liftgate without unsecured items immediately falling out. And with the way the X5 M Competition encourages you to drive it hard, you will end up shifting loose cargo around at some point." Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I'd snag the X5 M60i out of all the various X5 variants.
Porsche Cayman GT4 speeds back into view
Tue, 18 Nov 2014We're all familiar with the succession of numbers that follow the letters GT on a hard-core Porsche 911: the GT1 that was Stuttgart's Le Mans contender in the late 90s, the GT2 that packs turbochargers but without the Turbo's all-wheel drive and excess weight, and the naturally aspirated GT3 that's the enthusiast's choice. But a GT4? That's something new, and exactly what Porsche has in store.
Spied testing in Germany once again is the upcoming GT4 version of the Porsche Cayman, set to supersede the existing GTS and take the place of the previous Cayman R at the top of Porsche's junior sports car range. This latest batch of spy shots doesn't show us much more than the last crop, but gives us a much clearer view at what promises to be the most hardcore Cayman to date.
As you can see, the Cayman GT4 packs a much more aggressive aero kit and rolling stock than any version we've seen to date. It's got a lip spoiler, big air dam and GT3-style vent in front of the hood, deep air scoops along the flanks, a set of spindly alloys packing oversized brakes, a diffuser with twin central exhaust tips around back and a rear wing that's likely to be replaced with a sleeker unit before the GT4 reaches production.
Ferrari Speciale and Porsche GT3 make the trip to Le Mans
Thu, Aug 6 2015Call it a pilgrimage. Call it a right of passage. The bottom line is that every racing fan should make the trip to Le Mans at some point. All the better if you can do it in style, as Evo has for this latest video. Instead of taking any old car through the Chunnel and along the French countryside to the famous Circuit de la Sarthe, Evo made the trip in the Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 911 GT3. Both are more extreme versions of the already capable sports cars. They're still naturally aspirated, drive the rear wheels through seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions, and both won top honors in Evo's car of the year awards upon their release. And we could hardly imagine better vehicles for the journey. Along the way, the convoy-of-two stopped by the side of the old Rouen-Les-Essarts circuit. Back in the 1950s and 60s it was regarded as one of Europe's finest street circuits, hosting the French Grand Prix five times. It was closed down and paved over in the decades that followed, and is today part of a public thoroughfare – but you can still drive around it and see some of the relics of its former self peering through.
