1975 Porsche 914 Base Coupe 2-door 1.8l on 2040-cars
Staunton, Virginia, United States
Too many projects for me to finish this beauty, restoration needs to be completed. It has been covered for the last 6 years and hasn't been driven on the road since then. The engine starts and runs but will start smoking after the engine warms up. I am pretty sure it is burning oil when it is smoking. The engine probably needs an overhaul. It will need to be towed, however, it will drive up on ramps and drive under its own power. 5 speed manual, side shift transmission 1.8L 4 cylinder Twin Weber 40 IDF carbs (car was originally fuel injected, previous owner put these carbs on). Extra jets and carb parts and manuals come with MSD Ignition Targa Top Interior is in decent shape, just needs a deep cleaning Brake calipers have been rebuilt , new brake pads, new tires and new suspension, were all installed about 6 years ago but has only a few hundred miles on them. New battery installed this month I had painted the car when I first got it about 6 years ago but shortly after I painted it, the temporary car port it was in collapsed onto the hood and top of the car, that is why there is brown primer on the hood and top. It didn't dent the car, just scratched the paint up. It appears that the middle part of the floorpan has been reinforced, see photos. The only rust through that I have seen is in the original battery compartment and rear trunk. It comes with multiple boxes of extra parts, interior center console that needs to be finished, extra rear deck lid and repair manuals. Mileage says 66,703 but I am sure it it 166,703 (only 5 digit odometer). Let me know if you have any questions or want additional photos. $500.00 deposit due within 24 hours after auction close via Paypal |

Top Gear drag races VW Golf R against McLaren 675LT and Porsche 911
Thu, Apr 7 2016Top Gear's latest quarter-mile drag race in the collects three very different performance vehicles: the 296-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R, 424-hp Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and 666-hp McLaren 675LT. While each of these cars sit near the top of their segment, they each come from totally different rungs of the sports car price ladder. Spoiler alert, the Golf R doesn't win. But the final results illustrate the diminishing returns of price and performance. For example, the McLaren is only about a second quicker than the Porsche to 60 miles per hour, but the 675LT costs over 2.5 times more that the GTS. Related Video:
Recharge Wrap-up: Big Oil fails at renewable fuel, scientists study air with EVs, plug-in Panamera sales
Thu, Jul 10 2014Big Oil companies help keep renewable fuels out of your tank, a new report shows. No surprise there, right? The Renewable Fuels Association published a report card grading the country's largest retail gasoline chains on fuel offerings like E85 and E15. The report gave failing grades, with less than one percent of stations offering E15 or E85, to "Big Five" companies Exxon, BP, ConocoPhillips, Chevron and Shell, among other oil company and convenience/grocery store brands. The only major oil companies that didn't get an "F" were Valero (D), Cenex (B), and Marathon (A-). The eight companies that scored an A+ had at least 25 percent of their stations offering E85 or E15. Beginning July 4, University of Leicester researchers began driving electric vehicles kitted out with special sensors to monitor air quality throughout the city (similar to how California does it). Now their emissions-free daily driving duties double as data collection for their studies. "By monitoring air quality as a seamless part of our daily transport system, we are providing a cost-effective way to help inform future policy and operational systems," says the University's Dr. Roland Leigh. "There is no doubt electric cars are the future." – Nissan's Andy Palmer Nissan is exploring the idea of taking its Leaf EV to India, but a lack of charging options is an obstacle. According to Nissan's chief planning officer Andy Palmer, "There is no doubt electric cars are the future. The product is there, what we need is infrastructure. Charging is a big challenge." Though Nissan stopped short of saying it (this time), this could possibly mean working with Mahindra, which said it is open to collaborating with other companies concerning EVs. Learn more in this article from the Hindustan Times and know that India is rolling out a plan to encourage the production and adoption of EVs. The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan will get over $2 billion in funding, and some of that will go toward creating a charging infrastructure (you hear that, Nissan?). This is good news for EV manufacturers, India's economy and people who enjoy breathing clean air. Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche
Tue, 11 Mar 2014Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.
