1975 Porsche 914 on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
I purchased this car seven years ago as a completed V8 conversion and drove it a few thousand miles while at the same time upgrading it in several ways. The car had a minor fire when new, was therefore totalled and became a doner for this project. That explaines the low mileage, it was one of the first such conversions ever done. This car has seen very limited use for its entire life and never been out in inclement weather. The rust on the floorboards is evidently from storage, as I mentioned, one area does need repair where the floor meets the firewall behind the seats. My upgrades have been to the routing of the cooling lines, getting them thru the rocker panels and up thru the front to the radiator. This was accomplished with several custom made pieces of hardware. Where they pass thru tunnels in the fuel tank, header wrap totally prevents any heat transfer to the fuel itself. I was taking this car on road trips and driving it around untill I hit a curb with the right rear wheel and bent the swingarm on that side and cracked the 901 gearbox with that impact. The body remained absolutely unharmed and straight. At that point, 3 years ago, my activity stalled with this car due to having to relocate my business and economic conditions in general. The engine remains out of the car, and waiting to go back in with it is the CROWN JEWEL of what I have to offer here . . . a totally modified 930 transaxle with all new parts and limited slip differential. Additionally, I designed and built a mechanical shifter that shortens the overall length by 4 inches, making it ideal to put into a 914. The photo of the stock and new shift rods shows how this is possible, all of this was assembled by Perfect Power Inc., Buffalo Grove Illinois, whose absolute specialty is Porsche. They did or contracted for all the special machining and modifications to use this in a mid-engine car. I have complete build sheets and ratio/speed information, I spent over 12 thousand dollars on this box before creating the shifter. The interior is in very good condition with no cracks in the dash, every thing works. I have a replacement swingarm. I myself have been in product developement, mechanical design and prototyping as a career working on consumer, medical, and industrial products making me competant in everything I accomplished here. I require an $800 paypal deposit within 24 hours of the end of this auction. You will be bidding to OWN this car, not an option to buy. Please have necessary funds available to complete this transaction within 7 business days of the sale in cash or bank wire transfer unless you and I make other arrangements. Car is sold "as is" with no warrantees. I have a clear Illinois title for this car, please ask all questions BEFORE bidding. Car may be picked up or shipping arrangements will have to be made. My phone is 312 972 0047, my name is Paul, thank you for looking. Please feel free to make offers.

Porsche in Paul Walker fatal accident was traveling over 100 mph before crash
Fri, 03 Jan 2014The Porsche Carrera GT involved in the November crash that killed Fast and Furious star Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas was traveling at speeds above 100 miles per hour before Rodas lost control for "unknown reasons," according to a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office that has been acquired by The Hollywood Reporter.
Once control was lost, the Porsche spun, hit a curb and then impacted a tree and a light post, then it spun 180 degrees and hit another tree before erupting in flames, the report said. Neither Walker nor Rodas were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, according to toxicology reports conducted by the coroner.
As for the future of the Fast and Furious franchise, a separate by The Hollywood Reporter claims director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal Studios will move forward with the seventh installment in the franchise, which was only partially completed when Walker was killed.
Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic
Mon, Oct 24 2016Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. Patrick Dempsey to take break from racing after career season
Mon, Mar 7 2016The popular American actor has decided to take a step back from racing to focus on his "family and acting career." Outside of motorsports, Dempsey's tenure on the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy as Derek Shepherd ended last year, as did his 16-year marriage to makeup artist Jillian Fink. They have since reconciled. Reaching the top step of the podium During that same year, Dempsey finally reached the top step of the podium in his professional sports car racing career, winning the Fuji round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship. Earlier in the season, he placed second in class in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance classic. His Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche squad ended 2015 sixth in the GTE-Am standings. Along with four starts at Le Mans between 2009 and 2015, Dempsey competed in a total of 68 races between Grand-Am, ALMS and the recently formed hybrid of the two -- The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship. He scored nine podiums, which includes high profile races such as the Rolex 24, Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Patrick Dempsey to focus on "family and acting" in 2016 But he will not add on to his growing racing resume this year. Dempsey has released a statement, announcing that he will not compete in any events this season, although his team will continue to do so. My motorsports journey has been a rewarding one and allowed me to meet so many interesting people. While the focus so often is the performance of the car, in reality it is all the various personalities, from team mates to competitors to officials to fans that I remember the most. I have loved being part of part of different teams and sharing the experience with so many great friends. I want to thank everyone who made this possible and helped me along the way. I also wanted to especially thank the fans for their support and friendship. None of this would happen without you buying the tickets and attending the races, so I am grateful for that investment in my passion. It makes me especially happy to see how many people have become race fans during my racing career. At this point in my life, after an amazing season thanks to my friends at Porsche and TAG Huer, I need to take a step back and focus on both my family and my acting career. Dempsey-Proton Racing will continue on racing a Porsche 911 RSR in the World Endurance Championship season. I hope my schedule permits me to enjoy some race weekends at least as a team owner.
