For Sale: 1974 Porsche 914/4 2.0L

This car was meticulously restored and garage kept for years. It is built to resemble a 914/6 with the rare factory M471 styling package. I purchased it in December of 2009 and completed the assembly. The car has many period correct upgrades. It has professionally installed lap welded STEEL fender flares. The receipts for the paint alone equal near $4,000.00 in 1980s money. Paint is absolutely beautiful overall but the front trunk and windshield cowl have been repainted and are ok but not as nice as the rest of the car. Easily redone though. It has Koni adjustable shocks and lowering springs. The wheels are awesome period correct BBS (Mahle) with new Kumho Ecsta tires. Many new parts, (too much to list) such as, new clutch cable and throttle cable, weatherstrip, shift bushings, brakes, battery and clutch. It has a strong 2.0 litre engine with dual 44mm Weber carburetors. Many small improvements such as brass rollers on the rear trunk lid hinges and 911 mirrors. Interior is in really nice condition with short shift kit, dead pedal, Formuling steering wheel and good carpets and door panels. Header panel on the roll bar has only minor cracks and dash has none. Top is in excellent shape as is headliner.  The side shift transmission shifts fine and synchros are in good order. I have over $17,000 in receipts with the car in a folder. There is a Beechcraft airplane fuel filler door installed in the front trunk for fast fill ups without opening trunk and a race car look. It does not affect the trunk opening and closing. The car is set up for autocrossing and is totally streetable but handles incredibly. All electrical works except for the fog lights, horn (it did and I suspect horn button), and the oil temp gauge. There are some windshield rock chips, no cracks. The Ansa muffler  header has some rust holes that need to be welded but do not have any effect on function.  There is no rust to be found on the body including under the battery tray. I have driven this car with no issues from Lafayette, LA to Braselton, GA and back to camp out in the infield at Road Atlanta (1100 mile round trip). It got nearly 30 mpg average on this trip! "There's still a couple hundred rpm left," coaxes the voice from the passenger seat. Though I'm wailing down a mercilessly knotted up Southern California canyon road in someone else's half-million dollar coupe, my manic pace apparently isn't sufficient for the Singer Vehicle Design rep in the right seat. On one hand, my Irish co-pilot with more than a passing resemblance to Bruce Willis is playfully ribbing me because I've been driving hard, but haven't yet hit the 4.0-liter engine's 7,200-rpm rev limiter. On the other hand, if you've never heard of an Irish bloke who doesn't drink because he's got control issues – well, now you have, because the dude's stocky paws are white knuckling the car's rain gutter like his life depends on it. Within my microcosm of itinerant auto writing some days are odder than others; this particular Monday is beginning to look like one of the weirder ones. Rolling, In My Four-Point-Oh The car in question, according to a release I've signed prior to the drive, is a "Porsche 911," a "Porsche," or a "911," but certainly not a "Singer Porsche," a "Singer 911," or any number of variants thereafter. Sigh. I suppose "Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer Vehicle Design" will suffice? Oh, legal department. Nomenclature aside, what started life as a 1990 Porsche 911 has been dismantled and rebodied with a carbon fiber skin that makes it more closely resemble a small-bumpered, wide-hipped 1960s-era 911 than it does its melted bumper donor car. According to company founder (and former Catherine Wheel vocalist) Rob Dickinson, the decision to source a 964-series 911 was based on its delicate foothold between the model's combination of heritage and drivability. "I think the 964 is in the sweet spot of having one foot in old school 911 thinking with the [semi-trailing] rear suspension, which honors every earlier 911, while having a front end which is very much of the modern era and allows the car not to feel like an antique," he tells Autoblog. The specimen I'm driving is the latest evolution of Singer's vision of the reinterpreted 911, distinguished by a 4.0-liter powerplant that's been heavily modified by Ed Pink Racing (and, in Singer tradition, the serial number matches the donor car's chassis). The Van Nuys, California-based firm knows a thing or two about high-strung Porsche mills: the tuner has a long history of rebuilding such mechanical exotica such as 917, 935, and 962 race engines.

Volkswagen reportedly to name Matthias Muller CEO

Porsche chief executive officer Matthias Muller is expected to be named CEO of Volkswagen AG, the Wall Street Journal and other sources reported Thursday morning. Muller, 62, has led Porsche since Oct. 1, 2010, and jumpstarted the sports-car brand's expansion around the world. He replaces Martin Winkerkorn, who stepped down Wednesday amid the company's worsening diesel scandal. At least three more executives are also expected to be fired, including Volkswagen's US chief and the heads of Audi and Porsche research and development. Both brands are divisions of VW. A US spokesman wouldn't confirm the reports. An official announcement is expected at VW's board meeting on Friday. Muller's ascension caps a stunning week of turmoil for Volkswagen, which manipulated software to make its diesel-powered vehicles appear cleaner during testing that they are in real-world driving. The charges were revealed last week by the EPA, which cited the work of researchers at West Virginia University. About 482,000 vehicles are affected in the United States, which will be subject to recall, and VW estimates about 11 million of its vehicles around the world have the rigged software. The well-regarded Muller was viewed as a front-runner for the job even before Winterkorn stepped down. Before helming Porsche, he oversaw all vehicle projects globally for VW from 2007-2010. Previously, he was in charge of the Audi and Lamborghini product lines, and earlier in his career was responsible for the Audi A3 program in the 1990s. He joined Audi in 1977. He's trained as a toolmaker and studied information technology in Munich. His last name is sometimes spelled Mueller in English. Muller faces immediate challenges as he takes over VW's sprawling 78-year-old industrial empire, including recalls and regulatory actions around the world. In the US alone, the company faces a fine of up to $18 billion. VW, an industrial symbol of Germany, is also far larger than any unit Muller has run in his career. While Porsche sold 189,849 vehicles in 2014 globally, it's one of many VW brands. Collectively they sold 5.04 million vehicles through the first six months of this year, making Volkswagen the world's largest automaker. Related Video:
