This 914 is in excellent condition. It drives fantastic, tracks straight, does not shake or vibrate, and has really nothing wrong with it. I have gone through almost every system on the car making some improvements along the way. The car has no rust to speak of and there is no evidence that it ever had any rust repair performed. It also has never been in an accident as far as I know and from what I have gathered in owning and working on he car. I have cleaned and applied POR 15 on most of the belly pan and on the interior under the carpet as well as in the engine bay. The car has stainless steel brake lines, new Ferodo pads, a 911 master cylinder and new OEM rotors. The brakes are spot on with excellent stoping power and stops straight with no shimmy. The car has the original carpet that is in excellent condition and a set of Porsche carpet floor mats. All of the dash lights work. The heat and ventilation works as it should and has recent stainless heat exchangers.

The dash has a few cracks but has a dash cover installed. The seats have a few small splits. The shift knob is a correct Porsche 915 knob that I recently found new in the box ($260).  The glass is all in excellent condition. It is very clear with no noticeable scratches or chips. All of the rubber was recently replaced with German top of the line rubber. I also treat the rubber with Gummi Phledge on a regular basis. The engine is a 1.7 block built to 2.0 specs by JCS. The motor has about eight thousand miles since rebuild. The exhaust is a correct 2.0 German set up. It has dual 44 carbs with correct emulsion and jets. I recently detailed the engine bay and installed a new fuel pump under the car. I mounted the pump on rubber stand offs to keep it from vibrating. I also routed the fuel line through secure guides and installed a serviceable glass filter. A few things to note on the motor are, new Nology wires, new Bosch blue coil, and new K&N washable air filters. I also installed an Optima Red Top battery and wired a kill switch from an early SWB 911. I also recently installed a new Sachs clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. The car has a NOS 009 Bosch distributor install and I have a Bosch single vacuum dual advance distributor for it to eliminate the minor dead spot just of idle. The car runs so well that I have had no incentive to install it. It also has pertronix electronic ignition. The side shift trans was rebuilt at he same time as the motor. The car shifts fantastic. I did install optimized Delrin bushings in most of the linkage. Also all new wheel bearings and other standard maintenance stuff has been done.
The wheels are real Fuchs "2.0" alloys. The center caps are also the real alloy type not the steel replicas. All he chrome is excellent. The tires have about four thousand miles on them. The spare is also an OEM Fuchs wheel.

In a nut shell this is one of the best sorted 914 models you will find. A friend of mine who is the owner of an east coast Porsche racing team drove the car and commented that it really was a remarkable example of a 914. I would confidently drive the car anywhere.

On Jan-14-13 at 11:31:55 PST, seller added the following information:

I forgot some things.

The window cranks are from a late 356.
I had been planning to take the Porsche crest off the rear bumper that the PO had applied. I did so this morning. I placed on the rear panel which you can see in the new photos I added. And yes it is crooked. I will be removing and re-applying it today.
I added some pictures of the interior, the front and rear trunk, as well as the under side of the car.
The car has Royal Purple fluids through out. The PO used Mobile One.

I recently replaced the steering bushings and bearings. They were not bad. I did them to keep things tight.
Also the pedal cluster bushings.

The car has a three speed heater blower motor out of a 911 as well. The heat flex tubes are German NOS.

I have a good selection of usable spares that come with the car.

I drove the car today and have to say that if I was not facing a serious family issue I would never sell this car.

Porsche Macan configurator lets you build $110k crossover

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

Part of the idea behind the new Porsche Macan is that it's less expensive than its larger sibling, the Cayenne. But with a starting MSRP of $49,900, the base Macan S is actually $300 more expensive than the cheapest Cayenne. That, however, is just the start, as you can see from the online configurator.
As is often the case with German cars in general (Porsches especially), tick the right boxes and you'll soon be leaving that base price behind in a cloud of tire smoke. Start off with the Macan Turbo and you're looking at a base MSRP of $72,300, which is already over twenty grand more than the naturally-aspirated version. But even that soon escalates as the options pile on.
Aurum Metallic paint will set you back $3,120. 21-inch wheels, another $3,300. You'll probably want the air suspension, torque vectoring, the Sport Chrono package, adaptive cruise control and lane-change systems, and those each add over a grand to the price. A Burmester surround sound system is the single most expensive option at $4,290. And if you choose them all - and choose all the optional trim packages - you'll soon be looking at a price in excess of $110,000. That's enough to get you into a Cayenne Turbo... assuming you don't tag on all the options to that one, too.

The Bearable Lightness Of Being
Start with a standard Porsche 911 Carrera and its 350-horsepower, 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine. Bore a crepe-thin slice of aluminum from each cylinder to get to 3.8 liters, add a wider track out back and two extra exhaust pipes and voila, you can append an S to the Carrera's name. Hang two sets of wet, multi-disc clutches along its spine and you can make that a 4, or a 4S. Bolt on two forced-induction compressors and piping, add two fender vents and comically wide rear tires and you've redeemed your ticket to a Turbo. Increase the boost pressure and swell the corral to 560 horses and you have the Turbo S, which is the Virginia Slims of the 911 line-up because it's come a long way, baby.
Or you can go in a different direction. At that second stop, grab the 3.8-liter and cart it over to the engineers at Porsche's development center in Weissach, Germany. If racing were meat, they would be among the alpha carnivores. The baseboards in their homes are probably painted with miniature billboards for motor oil and vintage cigarettes along the straights, red-and-white stripes around every corner.

Next-gen Porsche Panamera snapped running in E-Hybrid spec

Tue, May 12 2015

The Porsche Panamera first debuted back in 2009 and underwent a facelift in 2013. That means the all-new, next-generation Panamera should be arriving in time for the 2017 model year, and here were have our first look at its plug-in hybrid variant. Following the last prototype spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden, this new Panamera test mule spotted in southern Europe appears to be running the E-Hybrid powertrain setup – judging, at least, by the presence of a second filler cap hiding what's likely an charging port on the left side rear fender. We'll just have to sit tight, however, to find out whether it will be packing an evolution of the existing powertrain or something entirely new. Though the prototype may look largely undisguised, those head- and taillight graphics look like stickers to throw us off the scent, and these do not appear to be production-ready body panels. Expect the finished product to look far more polished when it arrives sometime in the middle of next year, with the hybrid version to follow sometime thereafter.
