1972 Porsche 914 Targa

Here is a chance to own a classic Porsche 914.  Classic Porsches are one of the fastest appreciating vehicles today.  This 914 is a great driver for someone that is looking for a nice weekend toy.  This car was a trade in at another dealership who called us due to the fact that we are known as vintage Porsche fanatics. The paint appears fairly fresh and has just been thoroughly detailed and polished.  The prior owner repaired the "hell hole" area, (minor repair) and relocated the battery to the trunk, which you can see in the photos.  Also a Weber carburetor and intake were recently installed.  It starts right up with the first push of the button and idles very smoothly.  The headlights, turn signals, and brake lights work properly.  The seals for the top are in very good shape.  All the interior is in excellent condition.  Seats do not have any tears and drivers seat slides properly.  The dash is in good shape, the basket weave material on the dash is original and in nice condition. The door panels are in very good condition.  914's have issues with the door handles, but these seem to have been replaced and work as they should.  One thing that we noticed is that the rear lock cylinder is missing for the trunk, but it still opens and latches fine.  The front bonnet had a external release installed in the grill that works much better than the original.  Driving this 914 is fun and rewarding.  The sport exhaust system has a great rumble, so you can hear yourself going through the gears.  As with most older Porsches the shifting is a bit vague because of the long shift linkage, but this is the side shift setup.  The engine is a 1.7, and was rebuilt GEX at some time as noted by the GEX markings on the case.  GEX has a great reputation and this motor shows it. It does run very strong and does not leak or blow any smoke.  The chassis has no rust showing, and all the suspension pick ups are in great condition.  It does seem to have some repair work in the front pan, it appears to have been done many years ago and is aging well.  The alignment is good and the car tracks straight down the road. Also the brakes have been rebuilt some time ago, so it stops like a proper 914 does.  While this is not a show car(although the prior owner did enter it in local shows), it is an excellent and enjoyable 914, and is way better than most out there for sale.  These cars are getting hard to find, and the money spent on this one is a good investment.  Please call us for details, we are happy to answer any questions on it.  Inspections are welcome prior to the end of the auction.

Five reasons to love, or hate, the culture of German cars

Thu, Mar 5 2015

A few months back, we took a 500-foot view of the culture of American cars, dissecting prides and prejudices on our way to the conclusion that automotive allegiances can be simultaneously embraced and derided. We had so much fun with the narrative that we decided to do it again, this time taking a look at Germany and its world-renowned lineup of automakers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, among others. Join us below as we discuss the points and counterpoints that make or have made the German auto industry what it is today. And remember, Germany did pretty much invent the automobile, after all... The V12 Engine If America is known for the proliferation of the V8 engine, an argument could be made that Germany owns the V12. Yes, of course, other companies have created V12 engines – Ferrari, Jaguar and Lamborghini immediately come to mind – but the big 12-cylinder powerplants from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in particular, have proven to be some of the most effortless, luxurious and downright over-built engines the world has ever seen. These days, having 12 cylinders is more a case of wretched excess than ever before, and yet, you can still stroll into your local BMW or Mercedes dealership and get a brand-new 760i, S600 or even an over-the-top G65 AMG, efficiency be damned. Best of all, since the majority of these German powerhouses depreciate as fast as an anchor sinks, nearly any auto enthusiast who dreams of a dozen cylinders can satisfy their carnal desires. Current Star: 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 View 28 Photos Diesel Engines Remember how we talked about those glorious V12 engines? Well, you can even get one from Audi that runs on diesel. If your compression-ignition fantasies err more on the side of fuel savings, that's no problem, either. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen have got you covered, with engines starting as small as 800 cubic centimeters (Smart Fortwo). If you want something a little more practical, it's hard to argue with a VW Golf TDI, which will provide plenty of space for you and three of your best friends, plus a fair bit of luggage, all while returning 50-ish miles per gallon. For the purposes of this discussion, we'd rather focus on the asinine levels of torque provided by Germany's high-end diesel engines than the lower-end fuel sippers.

Porsche, Hyundai and GM impress in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Fiat and Jeep don't

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Consumers continue to struggle with the advanced user interfaces and technologies being fitted to new cars, according to the latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. Overall, the industry average for problems per 100 vehicles climbed three percent, to 116 issues reported in the first 90 days of ownership.
Vehicles from the General Motors' family were dominant, with Buick, Chevrolet and GMC capturing more individual IQS segment awards than any other manufacturer. Despite its well-publicized issues, six GM vehicles (Buick Encore, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevy Silverado HD, Chevy Suburban, GMC Terrain and GMC Yukon) were given IQS awards for their respective segments.
Hyundai was ranked the best overall mass-market brand, with just 94 issues in every 100 vehicles reported in the first 90 days. Parent Hyundai Motor Company, meanwhile, trailed GM with five vehicles winning their segments, including the Hyundai Accent, Elantra and Genesis, as well as the Kia Cadenza and Sportage.

Porsche doesn't think autonomous cars fit brand

Mon, Feb 1 2016

Porsche customers have no need to worry because the company has no intention of taking away driver control by introducing autonomous tech for its vehicles. "One wants to drive a Porsche by oneself," company CEO Oliver Blume told a German newspaper, Reuters reports. For the sports car maker, this is a sensible decision, as its owners are driving enthusiasts who desire an exciting experience behind the wheel. Blume also isn't a big fan of people using their phones in the car. "An iPhone belongs in your pocket, not on the road," he told the newspaper. While Blume doesn't like some cutting-edge automotive tech, he's no Luddite. The CEO eventually wants every Porsche to be available with a hybrid powertrain option, including the 911. A plug-in version of the famous sports coupe could be ready by 2018 and have a 31-mile EV range (presumably on the European cycle), according to Reuters. The evidence suggests that Porsche is very serious about electrifying the 911. A company exec admitted the automaker had PHEVs under discussion. Spy shots (above) already showed one testing that possibly had a charger on the passenger side rear fender. The 911 PHEV would also follow logically from Porsche's recent surge to electrify its models. The Panamera and Cayenne already offer plug-in versions, and the 918 Spyder proves the system can perform. Applying that battery knowledge to the 911 is a natural move, especially with the fully electric Mission E taking another technological step forward around 2020. Related Video:
